Anyone try absinthe?  Is Laudanum still around?  As a lit geek, those two items figured big a hundred years ago (and earlier).

For me?  Coffee, beer, but mostly red wine.  I'm a lightweight.  Oh, and pina coladas.  And taking walks in the rain.

Mostly at pretend at being a hippie:  nag champa and ambient music (deep electronic space stuff)....

I had a fair amount of absinthe last time I was "down unda". A little Tasmanian she-devil I met in Launceston was quite fond of it. Who was I to argue? Tasted like `roo piss, and got me wasted. Don`t ask about the Tassie she-devil.

WOR, pina coladas? Really? And I thought it never rained in Southern California.

Pina coladas in my younger years, FtF... Mostly though, the mention of that beverage and "taking walks in the rain" was in reference to that 70's song (the title and artist of which now escape me)...  And was that a music reference you threw back:  "It never rains in California...."?

Man, with my memory being what it is, it's probably a good thing I did NOT do a lot of wild things when I was younger!

Ah, crap. I just noticed the top right corner. I am sure my mother would be proud. ;D
(Honestly, she would not be a bit surprised, she's the one who paid for my trips to rehab. And I will be eternally grateful for her help. Moms are the best.)

I love the Cocaine

I can't believe the band hasn't insisted this video of this dork having an epileptic seizure be taken down.  Good song.  Pathetic asshat in a backwards hat.

"The world would be a better place if the act of wearing a baseball cap backwards automatically sterilized the wearer" - Some Comedian

Unless they're a baseball catcher.

Heh, agree with all of the above.

Words to live by.

Damn, Johnny Bench was a great catcher...

His career stats aren't stellar:  .267 BA, 2048 hits (more SO's than Walks)... still, he was solid and made everyone around him better.  He was consistent and dependable.

Juan

He loved the left field stands at old Atlanta-Fulton County stadium.

I would not have the mind I have today and the philosophy that I live by or my understanding of the universe without them... now I could be totally wrong about that but in my head I totally believe it.

McPhallus

I love how a drug thread has instantly become the hot spot of the forum.  You know Art must be proud. :)

Beer, bacon, boobs. Not in any particular order. Also wine if I'm feeling it. And a good strain of MJ to take the edge off.

MJ while camping is great. Especially when the stars come out and you've got cool people and tunes. Nothing crazy, just having a good time.  :)

I won't touch the hallucinogen or coke products. Like others, I'm too scared to deal with what may come.

If you met Josh Todd it would all make perfect sense to you.

Ketamine. Absolutely astonishing.

Shit's hard to find here, I usually go months between indulgences. Yet 12 hours after I posted the above, I randomly aquired some through a complex series of unlikely coincidences. It's that kind of drug.

I was offered a purchase of a Ket plant a few years ago, along with a Salvian dev.

Wish I knew more about Ket at the time and took him on the offer. I hear it's really really relaxing stuff.

Confusion. Ket doesn't come from a plant - are you thinking of quat, perhaps?

Or do you mean like a chemical plant?  :o In which case please give me a job.

There are different kinds and also much difference between what one might buy on the street, get at some party, or at some rave versus from a good supplier/chemist etc. But, in general, I agree with you. In a non-clinical setting (and actually that clinical setting might freak me out more!), and not knowing what you get and how much of what you are taking? No thanks.

It is a thing for younger people, or, at least for people for more b*alls than me. But I will agree with other posters, or the McKennas, that the right (or more properly wrong in my case) dose things like LSD, mescaline, and to lesser extent mushrooms will change they way you think. For good or ill. To me, I can't imagine how people "trip" all the time, be in public or crowds or concerts, or even used to go to school on it (maybe they get used to dosing or take lesser amounts?) And things like acid last too long. DMT injected intrigues me still to this age because it is quick (in your mind could be longer). But LSD experience without understanding it taught me some stuff. Wow. Especially taking more tabs because "it wasn't working yet"....boom.

A lot of it is also being willing to "let go". I learned my personality likes control too much, even if it is only perceived control (when sober, but even like you feel still in control when drunk but obviously impaired) but when you use psychedelics you need to be able to "let go", in my opinion. Fighting it can make it worse. Worst case make you think you are going crazy etc. So I wasted too much time trying to "maintain", looking at a clock, focusing on "its not real", etc. Good luck with that- because it doesn't do much good if you took too much, and I learned better to go with it. But afterwards was more scared and happy to be back on even keel and normalcy. But look back on it as a great experience. Never could get into it as some friends of mine. Though I could see how it could be fun if a way to make it better (negatives like eating tinfoil mouth feeling or stomach issues with mushrooms, or throwing up with the cacti buds) and way to stop trip if desired? But with the bad comes the "good", I guess. Couple of times decades ago but no real desire these days. Though I did know one guy recently who did the whole athasythuca thing. He was very sick with advanced cancer, and so on other stuff, so said it didn't do him like C2C guests have said.

DMT is the one that intrigues me the most, but I'm leery of it after a hippie chick told me her friends were never the same after doing too much of it. Anyone here ever done it?

Best advice I can give is: do your dishes first.

Never done either, but I've read drinking it and smoking it are two different things.

and certainly do not drive. i stopped and let someone else take the wheel. it was neat when the cornfield engulfed everything, like a black hole.

I've smoked it once - thing is... I'd sort of performed a magical ritual to find it in the first place, so I was already in a state of shock when I took it... yeah long story.
Dude you need to talk to GRANT MORRISON

Absinthe used to be legal on Vancouver Island when it wasn't here. In 2001, my cousin took me on a 2-day excursion on the Victoria Clipper and we were to stay at the Empress. It was just before Christmas. We were all excited about trying absinthe. But when we got to the cocktail lounge we became distracted by the happy hour food and ended up making our dinner on it and also drinking umbrella drinks(probably Singapore Slings) that we forgot the absinthe. I'm kind if glad frankly.

Now I'm on a drug that doesn't mix with alcohol. The rheumatologist says if I want to drink on a given day or evening just skip the drug that day, and sometimes I do, but it definitely takes the spontaneity out of it. Also I have to deal with being in more pain that day.

Speaking of adult beverages that aren't legal everywhere, how many have Everclear in their localities?

When we were teenagers, my best friend and I loved tripping and driving around. We lived in what was a rural county, so there were hundreds of miles of gravel roads to explore. I remember freaking out (in a good way) when it started snowing one time. It looked like warp speed, even though we were only going 20 mph. I never saw anything that wasn't there- everything was just kind of altered and patterns became very apparent. I loved the way we could solve all the world's problems. The answers were all so obvious and clear.
I could never eat acid now. I did it a whole lot when I was younger and never had a bad trip, other than brief sickness from mushrooms. Mushrooms and camping/the river are a winning combination. I always preferred acid, though. I followed the Grateful Dead for two years, and have seen Phish about 40 times (early 90's), so that should explain a lot about my hallucinogen usage. Tripping and dancing.
I wish I could take a week-long vacation back to that carefree time.

My advice would be to use the bathroom first. Nothing is worse than not being able to tell if you are done. It feels weird, man.

Edit: I forgot. My favorite part was the anticipation stage, when you have butterflies in your stomach and are waiting to see or hear that one wonky thing that lets you know it is kicking in.
