What is happening in Venezuela?

Started by Mind Flayer Monk, February 21, 2014, 01:01:43 AM

I guess there is a considerable amount of public strife in Venezuela and no one is reporting it.

"Throughout last night, panicked people told their stories of state-sponsored paramilitaries on motorcycles roaming middle class neighborhoods, shooting at people and  storming into apartment buildings, shooting at anyone who seemed like he might be protesting. People continue to be arrested merely for protesting, and a long established local Human Rights NGO makes an urgent plea for an investigation into widespread reports of torture of detainees."

"Somethings going on, we have pictures and obfuscating text"

Japan Times  http://goo.gl/Bk2CTd
"Venezuelan opposition leaders condemned the government Thursday for its heavy-handed attempt to subdue a protest movement with nighttime sweeps that have turned many parts of the country into dangerous free-fire zones."

Juan

The country's economy was destroyed by chavez and his looters.   His political descendants are turning to Cuba for troops to control the Venezuelan people.  Typical destruction of a regime after the caballero dies.

Fausta Wertz has been blogging about the situation there for years

We can't let it go on for too long.  They've got lots of oil we could be taking if we start killing their citizens ourselves.

It seems this thread should be in the politics chapter.

Especially considering which Americans were fans of Hugo Chavez, and of the new regime.

Show some respect! Sean Penn and Danny Glover are still in mourning.

Nope. Don`t need it.

In fact, it won`t be too far in the future until the good ol` US of A will be a net exporter of crude. And don`t even get me started on the ridiculous amount of  natural gas we have access to.

The world...it be a changin` ;)
