Battlestar Galactica (Miniseries and New but old can be discussed)

SO....Jaz and all the other fans of this series, thoughts, discussions?  I thoroughly enjoyed this series and suggest it for both male and female viewers alike.  I've only met a few detractors that have usually haven't seen the entire series. 

Few things that were great, New Capricorn, and the atmospheric landing/FTL jump.  That scene was spectacular.
The Resurrection Ship, the Razor mini movie, and The Plan (the Cylon's point of view)

The series has a great story arc, I enjoyed it even with it's religous overtones at times, it was great.

I love love love this show. My favorite series of all time. Everything thing you mentioned is spot on. One thing you didn't mention was the music. It really helped provide the atmosphere that was essential to the dark mood of the show.

Well no shit, indeed Bear McCready's stuff was great - loved the all along the watchtower throw in they did there in later seasons - I have all the series music in 320kbs and with 600 x 600 album art I've found on the net (it was the best at the time for album art if you're ocd about that sort of thing but the ID3 tags are all perfectly clean.


Agreed its mine too, and I actually enjoyed Lost as well, but it's been the best series, writing of any show on tv the last 10-15 years bar none.  I enjoyed Breaking Bad and do like walking dead, but not a zombie or a meth freak so they're good but not mind fucking good like those two shows could be.

Ok I definitely had some gripes, but, overall was very impressed with the writing, acting, music, and general production.  Very gritty and dramatic and sometimes powerful show.  One episode that comes to mind was Scar where Starbuck (who I thought was awesome throughout the whole series) has to chase down that one bad-ass Cylon and by the end you get a feeling for what she (and others by extension) have gone through as a war pilot.

I remember when that first came out they were hyping it as like a "weekly Star Wars" which made us kids go totally bananas at first, but the thrill faded pretty fast.  It was cool in some ways but was kind of slow and plodding and the cylons were hokey and the budget was so cheap they kept using the same friggin handful of effects countless times. 

There's one particular shot, that anyone would remember which was the kill shot where the cylon ship would arc to one side and get blown away, but they used it every week and then when people caught on they tried flipping the film to the other side but anyone could see it was an exact mirror image.

I do remember a few episodes that were pretty cool including that one creepy one (at least for a kid my age) where they went to that gambling planet but people kept disappearing in the elevator which took them to the secret basement.  Another cool one was when Starbuck got marooned and barely made it back to ship (I think he was stuck with a cylon on the planet too.)

By the time Apollo ended up in that all-white quasi-spiritual realm me and my friends had pretty much lost interest and put the reclaimed time back into our Atari 2600's.

Hehe I agree, and the Galactica 1981 was horrible too.  THERE IS/WAS a really great fan made late 99's cgi battlestar galactica miniweb series only a few minutes and all space battles but it was done very well for the time by an amateur to boot.

I totally remember the episode with the elevator that took the gamblers down to be eaten by the aliens. That was a really good one.  I loved the original series.  I had the Battlestar Galactica pee chee folder for school.

There was another Battlestar Galactica series that I think is mostly forgotten, thankfully, "Battlestar Galactica 1980."  It was pretty awful...

Anybody ever catch the Richard Hatch produced trailer for a sequel to the original series?  It was produced in the early 90's IIRC.  Called "The Second Coming."  I've seen it a couple of times.  Though  a continuation of the original series, it came across as edgier than the OS but not as gritty as the latest incarnation. 
Wait a minute.  Now that I think about it, it may have been produced mid to late '90s.

The old series was great, surprised it lasted only 1 season.  At least it ended on a high note, the last episode was one of the best.
The 1980 one was dumb however.  I never got into the newest one, soon as I see the "shaky hand held camera" effect I tune out.
