I wasn't aware that texting during a film was considered a crime.

What amendment does freely texting whenever the hell you want to without being shot fall under?

Violate the rule of law and and get penalized by the justice system.
Violate the rules of good manners and may get cap in ass by some other ill-bred.

Hearing you rude little boys talking on BellGab 2.0, makes one wonders, if any of you ever learned to mind your manners.

What are you getting at? Oulson threw something at Reeves. That is assault.

It isn't a crime to text in a theater, but it is rude and intrusive to others in the theater. And if you text near me during the previews or the movie I will be on your ass.

I'm not getting at anything. I don't really want to take this issue further. No one is going to convince anyone of anything which is why I stay away from the politics threads. I don't believe that guns should be as prevalent in your society as they are and these kinds of incidents would be few and far between if that was the case. I object to people trying to justify the shooting even by bringing in the assault by the other guy. If all the shooter had done was give the guy an ass kicking then I wouldn't have cared less.

I completely agree with you. I thought I had stated that he didn't deserve to be killed. I mean, does that even need to be said?

Of course not. My objection mainly is to some weirdly almost justifying the escalation.

.... Amazing lack of understanding good manners. The proper thing to do is ignore others bad manners or remove yourself from the situation.

Neither of those options does anything to change another's offensive behavior. I have gotten into a few "discussions" over cell phone use in theaters, but that leaves me with uncomfortable feelings for the rest of the movie. I have started to complain and ask for my money back, but that inconveniences me more than anyone else. Movie night out has become a real rarity for me and my wife.

It's expensive and (I think) overpriced.  The last movie I went to was $13, which included $3 extra for 3D.  I went in the early afternoon on a week day, just so I wouldn't have to shoot someone and have to leave early.

Do they give you your money back?

Now we're getting somewhere. America has always been populated by a minority of uncultured Raggies.
The 'Haves' to protect themselves from the lawless minority of the Raggies will do what's required to keep their equalizers. Most American gun deaths are among the Raggies. Subtract out the Raggie murders from the overall murder rate and the remaining American murder rate, is the same as other 'Have' countries.

Yes, I can be pretty assertive. They are a bit more reluctant for concessions, but I get that back as well.

Of course... In today's America of Raggie manners, theaters are just of one of manny traditional public gathering place to be avoided.

Excuse me for violating the 1st rule of good manners by pointing out others bad manners.
But you seem like like a smart fellow, get yourself a book on manners and learn to avoid a lot of these dangerous situations. I'd hate to read about some Raggies cap'in you.

I've read that many movie theaters are now banning equalizers. That would be the number one reason to avoid going to them. Red flag that they are Raggie hang outs.

Exactly.  But be careful about blaming the situation entirely on Raggies.  Some movie houses, particularly those that show "talkies", have also banned stereophonic sound, which is clearly the fault of the Moops.

I remember the good old horse and buggy days when, if one found it absolutely necessary to make a phone call during a film, one was forced to go to the lobby and use a pay phone.

Of course, most had no phone call that was so absolutely necessary that such a bargain was deemed profitable and sat and watched the goddamned FUCKING movie, which presumably, they were there to do in the first place.

(Sometimes, in those backward ancient days when we viewed generously slitted zoetropes instead of projected images..... and if the movie really sucked, I would escape to the lobby, only to see Sardondi standing there in a dimly illuminated alcove. But he wasn't using his coins for the pay phone.  He was feeding a Mata Hari pinball machine from a roll of pre-1964 (silver series) quarters - the faded blue paper coin sleeve tagged with a cryptic bank mark that looked suspiciously British. Or maybe it was the Seal of Baphomet. No matter. He was never there for the films in any case; the exception being the day Vanishing Point appeared. )

I have no answer for rational/irrational mammal on mammal fatal violence. Such behavior will always eventually coalesce, be it via the jawbone of an ass, or be it via a "Heisenberg special trunk effect."

What I do know is that cell phone control could easily be achieved for the benefit of movie goers.

It would be a relatively small expenditure for theaters to paint the movie house inner surfaces with this:

http://www.lessemf.com/paint.html

And if you refused to attend a theater equipped with such treated surfaces, you were never supposed to attend in the first place. If enough refused to attend theaters that did NOT have it, then perhaps many theaters would choose to apply it.

I truly appreciate the almost circular/spherical logic of the activity here, but it might be time to put a pin in it.

Or not.

As long as it provokes and divides and facilitates interloping conquerors, it must be admired!

Nah she cut me off in traffic... followed her while honking the horn and flashing my lights, finally running her off the road... she was impressed.
