brig, with lid on or with lid off you can use LED bulbs instead of the regular incandescent bulbs,as you perhaps know the incandescent
bulbs create lot's of heat, the LED light bulbs create aprx 95% less heat and they give same amount of light brightness and use very little electricity
so you can leave them on all night or day without worrying about hydro cost

and if you do use incandescent light bulbs always check on the lamp for a sticker with maximum Watts of the light bulbs to be used in it,
never use light bulb that has higher Watts than specified on the label on the lamp.

LED light bulb will cost more than regular bulb but will save you tons of electricity and will be much safer to use inside of your alien head,
especially that this alien head was/is not design to be used as a lamp [type of plastic used might not be resistant to high temperatures,
it might but who knows]...so using light bulb that generates lot's of heat might not be so safe, but will be safe with LED light bulbs
