yeah, drinking draino doesn't give nuance.

It is comparative sweet relief in this case, though.

The Guy From Pittsburgh ( tm ) Baby Falkie Speaks ! !!!

Infinite weirdness.  Gosh, I wonder why the guy and his daughter got up and left when Falkie sat down nearby?  I can't imagine.

Speaking of politics, why would you "get something to eat at Walmart" Falkie. That is disgusting. In more ways than one. You could just as easily drop that $5 or $10 at a locally owned restaurant. I'm sorry but I hate Walmart and I like you Falkie, so in the words of Ghandi "be the change you want to see in the world". You want to lose weight? You want to put your money back into your community, don't shop at Walmart. I wish I was capable of quoting someone like captain Spock or William shatner but sadly I don't watch Star Trek.

Walmart does have fresh fruits and vegetables and meat & chicken at the super centers when we go there. I go there mainly for my cat food & toilet paper, bargain blue rays, motor oil, etc.. I was using it as an EXAMPLE & not as an endorsement.
With a limited amount to spend I go there for that.
My community charges too much for cat food as an example.
I tend to buy meat where ever its on sale and Food Maxx is cheaper than Wal Mart & I also go to Sprouts Farmer's Market for vegetables.
Once the farmer's markets open up here for the season I do buy fruit and vegetables there & in Concord and we have also bought them from farmer's markets in Danville ( there's a huge one there ) in Berkley & elsewhere. In spring and summer I eat a lot of salad & fruit instead of packaged stuff & I'm going to start doing my own cooking but it gets too hot in my apartment to cook and I get tired of salad.
Most restaurant food around here runs 7-12 for one meal or more. We only eat out ( not fast food ) once or twice a month.
If a community store had dry cat food nearby in the quantities I need and was cheap, I'd go there but there is not one here. The nearest one with relatively inexpensive cat food is Pet Club 20 miles away.
Generic dry cat food, Meow Mix, Cat Chow & Kirkland makes my cats and the outdoor cats throw up. I've tried giving them Science Diet & they don't like it.
I feed 9 cats because the guy who fed them for 5 years moved & I could not let them starve. I spend $ 40 a month on dry cat food ( I think ) and 15 a month for wet cat food on Fluffy, Fuzzy & their litter mate Little Girl who spends 50% of the time in my apartment & is effectively my cat. Fluuffy, Fuzzy & Little Girl are of the original litter. The Mama Cat died after many years and 2 of the other litter mates live with a severely physically disabled man who like his two cats is very nice.
Originally here there were 15 cats, most got adopted, 2 disappeared and 3 years ago Mama, Papa, the two kittens & Orangey showed up. If I could catch them & find them good homes I would. The brown tortoiseshell I now feed showed up 2 or 3 months ago. I think she and Orangey were someone else's cats left behind as they're very friendly. Little Girl, Fluffy & Fuzzy follow me everywhere.
I have never agreed with the anti Wal Mart stance where local businesses and unions ( who RANT against Wal Mart ) destroy businesses. Locally here, the Wal Mart is 3 miles away with a shopping center there with 6 small businesses & a Home Depot right across from the Wal Mart. Behind that Home Depot is a small shopping center and one 3 blocks away with a Lucky & other stores.
Down the hill from Lucky is an Ace Hardware. His parking lot is packed. When they wanted to open a 24 hour Wal Mart here, that owner & the unions objected. It did not get opened. The hardware store owner had just opened a 3rd store up the road from where the Wal Mart would have been. It closed despite there being no Wal Mart a year or so later. Next to the Wal Mart is now a Lowe's. That hardware store owner also has a store in Pleasant Hill & I do go to his store here to get keys made or when somethings on sale. He also owns an Ace Truck store right down the road.
This area has a lot of small shopping centers within a mile or so from each other so we may be different from elsewhere. There are a mixture of chain stores & small businesses in each one.
In downtown Martinez there are a lot of restaurants, bars & antique stores but when the courthouse closes at 5, the antique stores do to. They hold the farmer's market on Main Street where I did the Starbucks video. Of late many stores have closed due to lack odf business ( mostly antique stores ) and because many of the businesses are now being made to retrofit their buildings for earthquake safety. There are a lot of un-reinforced masonry & brick buildings here & in taling to the owner of Alley Cats, an antique store in a former Florsheim shoe store, its going to cost between $100-250 k to do each store. She's moving into another store nearby but many businesses will close because they can't stay open or can't absorb the rent increases their landlords will do to revamp the cost.
The city here is building new new Amtrak parking area with NO new shops and the bulk of those riders get off, get in theur cars and drive home & don't spend money here, now will people when they finish a new ferry terminal near Amtrak. I've yet to see Aldous Burbank here either. ::) ;)
At 5 PM, they roll up the sidewalks & unless you eat or drink, there's nothing to do downtown. One restaurant that is packed a lot charges $ 32 for a steak which is outrageous.

I understand, Falkie. I removed my comment bc I didn't want to pick on you. Farmers market is an excellent choice for purchasing fresh produce. Good for you.

The politics of this 32,000 people town are both curious and interesting but its still a bedroom community with NO non chain grocery stores. All we have within 3 miles downtown to buy food are 2 liquor stores. The Safeway is 3 miles away.
You didn't have to remove the post. I was not offended.
I've walked the 2 blocks to city hall to attend city hall meetings but have yet to find anything to speak up against.
I still have shares of Wal Mart in my IRA. I used to buy them when I once worked there in the automotive section. They put me, a guy who knew nothing about cars, in there. Always bugged me as I was " a cashier, not  a mechanic. " ;)

I have looked for you but have never found you. I figured you got dragged under by the beavers. We have gone down there to give food to the homeless that's given to us that we don't want or like and I have fed kitties there on occasion.
Since we got the Prius, I don't take the bus much.
I have looked for you too but when I take the bus I'm usually there between 12-1 PM.
You should have some idea where I live. Once it gets hotter I'll be spending days at Starbucks. I would be spending it at the locally owned coffee house but they don't have wifi.

Meanwhile so you don't get homesick for the Amtrak kitties, here's a very short video of Pretty Cat. My Iphone was/is out of space. Sorry.

And I'm still waiting to meet you, free dinner or not. Inbox me please. ;D

Falkie, be watching the recalls with the commercial cat food.
The Science Diet is an acquired taste for them.

You spend how many dollars at Starbucks, can't make your own, and still ask for money? It's interesting you never address any of the points that raised re: your censorship; you being your own worst enemy because you think it's only correct everyone should know the minutia of your life.

`

I do watch all the recall news. kathy lost her Squeaky Cat because of the Chinese gluten cat & dog food stuff. He died in her arms. It was horrible & we miss him a lot.
Theres a recall ongoing now for dog treats with chicken from China.
Don't have the link right now but I sent the story to 3 Bellgabbers.
I'm amused over the one brand name :

Jump Your Bones  ;D

I found the link.

My original cats from years ago liked Nutro. These don't. Am thinking of trying Blue but don't know anything about it.

how do you stop the ammonia smell with all those cats in such a tiny space?

Also Gopro has a pretty good series of tutorial videos on YT ify you're too busy to read the manual

You've never had a beloved pet if you can say that

3OctaveFart

For a beloved pet to die under those circumstances, with the guilt that must accompany it, yes it would suck.
As for personal losses, we've all been hurt by that. You keep your wheels on the road and keep moving.
I can tell you're not my kind of bloke, Yorkshire. That's probably a good thing.

onan

I guess it is a matter of perspective. I lost a yellow lab many years ago and it took me more than six months to recover. One of my best friends however has several animals, some I would think of as pets, yet he seems to suffer little if one dies.

3OctaveFart

It is pure loss, that of a pet. You can't even really negotiate the stages of grief with it. The connection is so ephemeral.

1) Only 2 cats live in here and being a very cat friendly building they go outside a lot. Fluffy spends up to 18 hours a day outside. Fuzzy goes out too .All 3 cats
at but Fluffy keeps chasing them.

2) I have about $500 or so left in my IRA & only leave it in to add more stock. There's about $ 300 in cash. When I worked I bought stock every payday for years but had to draw it out when i became homeless twice. They penalize you for taking it out. I have not looked at a statement in months so I'm not certain exactly how much is left. I am allowed to have a certain amount in savings. The dividends get re-invested. If I ever start making really big money I will start a self employed IRA. I took some money out to buy a car and pay bills last year and paid the penalty on it, I think. Things were too hectic then for me to remember much because I was getting 3 hours of sleep a day for about 3 months. There's a bit of stock in a separate account from when I worked at Wal Mart at one time. Those dividends also get re-invested. Wal Mart & my broker send me statements & they're in a stack around here somewhere. I've had more important things to deal with.

3) There are 2 cat boxes in the bathroom which I change once a week and air purifiers in each room including an industrial one next to my bed because I have allergies. I DO know what to do with cat litter. I've only had cats since 1977.

Thanks for your sincerity. Your question is a difficult one to answer in a short text. Especially since the history of this forum over the last 4 years is filled with rich and witty conversations including thought provoking subjects that touched on deeply moving feelings and experiences.

I don't find falkie fun. Not that he couldn't be, but he isn't by and large fun. Unless fun is meant from the perspective of laughing at him or behind his back. When you add to the mix his penchant for attempting to worm money from his stories, his hypocritical view of those who receive government assistance, and various other antisocial behaviors... it just isn't fun.

I wish he wasn't here. I find this thread to be comparable to watching someone on a building ledge and onlookers shouting "jump". And falkie has no insight into that dynamic.
