Which starts at sundown Friday and ends on sundown Saturday.

I said SUNDAY night.

I'm a reform Jew. The Conservative & Orthodox Jews do that as well as devout Reform Jews as well.
But my Mother went overboard with it to the point that I couldn't take her kind of observance.
She used to wake me up on my one day off at 5:30 am to pray. It's a big reason I decided I would not be as observant as she got.
She was NOT observant at all when I was a child except to go to temple and I didn't even see a synagogue or temple until I was 11.
Generally, I go to temple on Friday nights but on this side of the bay there is no way not to drive to temple because of the distances involved. The nearest temple to me is 20 miles away. The next is in Lafayette, 30 miles away.
When we lived in San Francisco we walked to temple but when she wasn't as observant when my Father was alive he drove us there and back.
When I lived in Oakland I walked to the Conservative temple that was 3 doors up the hill from me.
