Art's shows are expiring in 11 hours from the OnDemand section. Just saying.

the possibility of Snoory getting alarmed.

Just distract him with a Hot Pocket. It'll be like fairies with knots.

Anybody with half a brain or who doesn't have money to just throw around was already listening for free anyway via youtube or torrents..  Maybe I underestimate the amount of people who legit want to pay for things or their lack of internet knowledge..  not considering those who listen live either though which is essential . so ionno

I could have done that but I actually wanted to support Art and give something back to him as a show of support. If he ever comes back again in a paid format I will pay again. Call it battered wife syndrome if you will but he's the only broadcaster I would do that for.

Christ.  What's next.  Elvis rising from the dead?

Whhaaa...wha...Elvis is dead?  Can't be. I just saw a utube video of him in Toronto singing Only Fools Fall in Loves?

So, as I understand it he had a 3 year contract with a 2 year NC? That means the NC would have run out before his contract ran out? So he could have left after 2 years and gone to another venue? Wouldn't he have had to honor the 3 year part? I guess there is a reason to have lawyers, this shit is confusing.

The way to look at this:

SiriusXM agreed to promote, set up the logistics, pay for a staff and provide all/most of the equipment for DM and pay Art for as many as three years in exchange for:
1). Art's exclusivity for a minimum of two years. That is, under no circumstances will people be able to hear the Art Bell product ANYWHERE else (no matter how successful, or not, the show is) for two years.
2). At the end of two years Art could quit and immediately start broadcasting elsewhere, but still may be in violation of the three year contract with other penalties due (Money, paying for equipment used in the show, etc).

Why would Art sign a deal like this? Because - as we are now seeing - there's a whole lot more required for a successful show than showing up. Art provides the talent, Sirius provides everything else. Everything else is a lot. Why would Sirius insist on a NC? To prevent your host from spending your time, resources and money and then pulling an "Art Bell".

That's pretty good, Falkie.  If we get enough of these prayers, maybe we can form our own religion or at least a cult.  I fear Art, though, is not going to rise again, so it'll just have to be kind of a fun-loving, pointless cult.  We can sacrifice cell phones, truckers, and Jess.  That should keep us busy for awhile.

Don't forget George Noory.  I expect the GNS thread to get bubbling again, when people are so bored that they actually listen to c2c to see how dreadfully awful Snoory is that night.  I recall that one show where he was so rude to that woman guest (something about the Shroud?) that it actually ended up being a twisted sort of high entertainment.

George Knapp taking over C2C full time would be the only silver lining in this whole mess.

I agree. George Knapp is the best. 2nd after Art, of course.

I would probably be the same if I had some extra cash to do so. battered wife syndrome sufferers unite.

Sirius has nothing to gain by just hosting downloads of past programs, probably more to lose.

No one will pay a subscription fee when
a) the program airs free online nightly
b) people will record those programs and put them on youtube and torrents, etc.

So who would pay a monthly subscription for that?  It would probably cost Sirius more than what they pull in by any "new subscribers" considering just the bandwidth.

I know I would pay a fee for downloads and/or on demand from Sirius, primarily because live streaming was so poor. In time I might have invested in a radio, who knows but it won't be happening now.

I don't recall where I heard that AB was coming back but I did sign up for SiriusXM's 30 day free trial on 9/27. I was so, so happy to hear Art's voice on the radio again. I began listening to Art in the late 80's and liked his way of interviewing and the topics. When he left the airways, it was a great loss to me. George Noory just didn't even begin to measure up. That was really disappointing. He has so many religious oriented right wing nuts and just plain right wing nuts on his program that I just can't stand to listen to him most of the time. Come on, Jerome Corsi and Alex Jones to name a couple????

The first few days I listened there was no way I was going to sign up because the stream kept getting dropped. I like to listen as I go to sleep. Noory put me to sleep. I couldn't go to sleep with Art Bell because I was so captivated by his interviews. I solved the streaming dropping problem by using on demand of past shows instead of live. By 10/24, I signed up for 6 month online AND also for my car all for a reasonable price of $50. I was/am willing to pay twice as much for Art Bell as compared to C2C.

Now I see that I won't even be able to catch up with his past shows since it looks like they will be taken off the on demand list today at midnight. I do listen to Sirius in my car but with Art Bell gone for sure it seems, I will be cancelling my Sirius. There is nothing else on their lineup that interests me enough to continue.

BTW, I signed up on 10/24 and my credit card was charged the agreed to $50. On 10/27 they also charged me $14.xx for continuation of my 30 day free trial period. So I have to correct that mistake also.

It is easy to say Art wants to do radio but just can't do it anymore for whatever reason but I will give him the benefit of the doubt and believe that he really wanted this to work. Since I know that I would not have been able to listen to his show if I had to depend upon Sirius streaming. I am sure most others felt the same way. It just wouldn't be worth the hassle of being dropped all the time. So he has a very valid point about not being able to raise listenership as long as the streaming problems continued.

He seems to be very dependent upon his listeners calling in as a measure of his success. It is also probably the prime reason why he enjoys doing his show. With a limited listenership able to listen live and call in, I can understand his disappointment. No interviewer can cover all the questions and Art's listeners, for the most part, were very bright people.  I enjoy the listener calls but, for me, I would be very pleased to just listen to the interviews. But then maybe Art is right and the show would not be "right" without the call ins. "Hello ... you're on the air.... this IS Art Bell."

I think this is a great idea.  It's what I was hoping for when I heard the first rumors that Art was returning to radio:  that he'd have a local show on KNYE that would be live streamed internationally on KNYE's website, allowing millions to listen.  I don't see why that still couldn't be done.  The only obstacle I would see is that Art may well have to wait two years to do it if the non-compete clause with Sirius cannot be gotten around some way.  I'm still feeling dubious that Art will really want to start all over again at 70.

I will support him too, and I would love nothing more than to have him back on the air despite the insane mercurial fluctuations that tend to do him in.

Knapp's great I agree, but he's primarily an investigative reporter. He's never displayed an interest in becoming a full-time radio host. He's doing pretty much what he wants over on KLAS.

If he could get out of his NC, maybe he could buy it back!  No reason to do it if he can't broadcast, though.

What a mess.   :(

Here's a crazy out of the box idea.

Could there be a situation where a station like KNYE has revolving guest hosts, say like our current crop of guests and some new ones, that chat with Art as a guest each night. Art could be a "paid" guest.

Does that violate the NC?

Time to take my meds. :P

Ok, BellGabbers, it's Sunday.  In the Corp world, it's a non-day.

Let's not cry until we get the word tomorrow.  Just saying.

DC will be closed tomorrow. National Holiday. Might have to wait until tuesday, alas.

Me too, I want to support him. But he is going to have to put some skin in the game. It has been said many times, but I don't like having the rug pulled out from under my feet. I am not Charlie Brown and I am not going to try to kick the ball until it is a sure thing.

""I'm still feeling dubious that Art will really want to start all over again at 70.""

Yeah, why would he want to start over at 70 if he wouldn't even continue at 68?  And, if calls really were the issue, what do you make of the false alarms about maybe not being on the air before he actually quit? Ie: heavy wind predicted, spider bites, and plus the real issue that prevented a show--the back one night.

This says to me that there were days during the gig he really thought he might choose to take another night off and was preparing us for that eventuality. I can't help but compare it to what I've gone through at times. Once the gig has been captured and the ink dry, I can really prefer to relax and not work, even though I love what I do. Heck, who wouldn't rather not work when you get right down to it? The most fun is being a superstar and being wanted and cultivated. After the glow is gone on that....meh. It's always the chase.

Just to be clear AGAIN, a Independent Broadcaster is somebody who is generally not exclusive to Sirius/Xm
but is still carried, Like Coast was and many other shows. The sad part is that we proposed that over a Week
ago and even said we would remain exclusive to Sirius/XM in the Broadcast World and would only stream on
the Web Site. Sadly they have not replied.

I will indeed honor my NC if they want me to and I am fairly sure they will, if not I will stream the show to you
as I said I would. I do not understand why they would not since it was such a win-win. We would no longer be
employees so their cost would have been near zero. I am concerned there are other factors at work here, time
will tell.

                                                                                                                            Art

Doesn't this leave US with a job to do?  If our goal is to get Art doing a show and art wants to do a show, then 1 of 2 things have to happen.

A) Sirius takes Art's deal, treats him as an independent broadcaster, but Art stays exclusive to Sirius.

B) Sirius releases Art from his non compete.

Both of these things our out of Art's control, but if WE POLITELY push the right buttons, it can happen.

Maybe if the CEO of Sirius gets a few hundred e-mails POLITELY asking for A or B above, it could happen.   (CEO of Sirius' e-mail address: James.Meyer@siriusxm.com or jmeyer@siriusradio.com not sure if there are 2 James Meyers in the organization, but those are the ones I have.  You can also try Scott.Greenstein@siriusxm.com as he is chief content officer).    If you really want to make an impression, send them a fax (1-212-584-5200.)

If you are looking for A, maybe you remind that you were a subscriber and unsubscribed when Art left, but let them know that you would be happy to resubscribe if they had the archive content available.

If you are looking for B, you may want to let them know that you don't understand WHY Sirius would get between you and content you enjoy.  Remind them that the people they are hurting are the fans.  Art doesn't need the money, so if they really care about their reputation as a company, they will graciously step aside and let Art host his own show on the internet.

Just remember... BE POLITE.  Sending a ranting message is very easy for them to dismiss, but if you are polite and to the point, we will get results.
