Steve Warner's Dark City

Not even half-way through show but liking it. Col. Alexander sounds so much like Lloyd Bonafide (did Hendrie base his character on that voice) that I have to laugh, even when he tries to be serious or evade/snowjob questions. Great interview and questions so far Steve/Bateman! Keep up the good work.

It's been awhile since I've passed along some bateman kudos, since I've mostly been erratically catching random archived shows, and thus out-of-sync with the thread.  But, anyway, ditto what albrecht said.

nick redfern on the bateman show

There was actually a different episode scheduled for tonight, but it was such a shitshow, I decided it couldn't be salvaged. I'd ask a question, get a 5 minute long answer with excruciating historical detail and then "...therefore, aliens."

So I'd ask him to back up & tell me how he arrived at that conclusion. Another 5 minute answer with "ALIENS!" tacked onto the end. What's weird is, he didn't seem like a nut. Maybe just trying to sell books, I'm not sure, but he was ridiculous. I would've dropped him had it been live.

Was the shitshow with Redfern?  Or do you prefer not to host and tell?

I'll take my answer off the Internet

Nah, wasn't Redfern, he's always on point.

That sounds like Art's "Dark Matter" interview with Timothy Good back last fall.  Never remember hearing Art so utterly bum-fuzzled by a wacked-out guest before.

Flawless? Did you hear him say how he wasn't going to "blow himself" on the episode with Colonel SmugJerk?

I thought that's what he said! No big deal.

It's far less bothersome than "awwwww yeeeeaahhhh."

I have the 10 hour youtube loop and remix.

Ha, no, not him. That would've been a given.

Rerun of Michael Schratt on DMRN tonight, I've been prepping for some longer shows that will be aired for a much, much larger audience, and that's all I can say at the moment. "Stay tuned"

Tease. I want the shows not the youtube teasers about what show subject might be coming up!! Kidding. By the way, listening to a Syrette show with Constantine re: Mae Brussel (who I always liked.) Could be an interesting guest (especially with his earlier stuff regarding ritual abuse- as a follow-up to a certain Colonel, if that happens) and his documentation/theories (in line with Mae's theories) about Nazis in America and elsewhere. He also has some interesting stuff about the government and the whole hippie music and scene. (I'm not saying I buy into the stuff, but interesting listening and reading.)

Are you talking about David McGowan's Weird Scenes From Inside the Canyon

I have not read that but heard an interview with him. Mae Brussel decades ago claimed similar theories and then this Constantine guy took it up also. Mae was very concerned that the good "nice" hippie scene for actual social change, peace, etc was "taken over" and corrupted esp post-67 via "Operation Chaos." I don't recall, right now, if she alleged that the movement was actually created. I think she thought more like the CIA etc recognized the "threat" and co-opted it. It is weird how many musicians etc had military fathers or connections.

I'll have to check her out to see how her theories compare to McGowan's.  It's interesting how many prominent Laurel Canyon musicians had father with high ranking military or intelligence services backgrounds.  That's one of his main premises.  It's also surprising how the all avoided the draft and how many didn't go to prison for major drug busts.  I don't buy everything he says, but he connects a lot of dots in fascinating ways.

I found his site a couple of years ago and read all the Canyon installments, and it has a lot more info than the book.  The chapter on the massive, secret Nazi 5th column compound built there in the thirties or forties is especially cool.  I'd never heard of it before.

Thanks, I will check it out. Yes, I don't "buy" all his, or Mae's theories, but they are interesting. And the connections are very weird. With Mae she referenced news articles etc. She's been dead for quite a while but in the conspiracy scene sort of a ground breaker.

ps: along this line, I have yet to see it but I hear movie about Gary Webb is a good one. "Kill The Messenger" it is called. I have not seen, so I don't know how good it is or how deeply they go into the stuff and what happened to him- like Danny Casolaro (RIP), a real reporter dead of  "suicide" but even more weird because two shots in Webb's "suicide." Or the weirdness of Jonathan Luna (RIP.)
