He's currently coming to the end of his MEng in Architectural engineering and is keen to liase with you on the possibility of a collaboration to write a peer reviewed paper. if it's an unexpected knock or ringing of the bell, then i absolutely agree with this rule.  a random, unexpected doorbell ring at your home never improves your day.  never.  i can't recall a single instance where i was glad i answered the door.  not one.  if it's somebody i know or want to see, they'll apprise me of their intentions in advance.

I never answer the door anymore. I have a camera that's connected to an app on my phone but I rarely even check to even see who's there anymore. I agree that nothing good can come from unsolicited visits.

I did notice an inordinate amount of extra tiny cameras in weird places. I have a tech visiting next month and will get him to check it out.

In the past few years we have started to make it a thing. Sort of. Still not nearly as huge as in the states. Growing up I knew about Halloween from US TV but it was not a thing here. Nowadays some stores will sell meager decorations, some people may have a dress up party and some neighborhoods might set up small localised areas where kids can safely go trick or treating but it's not common.
