I only heard about the Hoagland thing last night while listening to the Gabcast. At the risk of repeating all that everyone else has said by now, it seems a pretty puzzling choice. Sure, RCH can talk the hind legs off any number of donkeys but it is surely a mistake to give him the keys and just let him zoom off wherever the fancy takes him, without any check on his tendency to run on without worrying too much about the audience. I have only really enjoyed him when Art has the power to rein in his extravagances.

I remember Art posting on here a while ago in defence of RCH, saying that he (RCH) believed in what he was doing and made very little money doing it. Which seemed an odd thing to do: publicly go out and say that your friend is broke-ass. Perhaps it is Art throwing a bone to his buddy in need, rather than it being a decision based on emotion rather than broadcasting chops. Maybe that was the same reason he gave Strieber Dreamland, but I don't know the history behind that one.

Back when RCH had his heart attack I remember Art describing him as a Type 'A' personality, and possibly that is what makes him so frustrating at times: he is too intent on getting his own way. But, then again, Art is pretty Alpha too, so there goes that theory.

Anyway, perhaps he will prove a surprise package and show us sides of his personlity we never knew about. I don't think endless shows of wall to wall pseudo astronomy are going to bring in many subscribers though.
