I would have to say that Star Trek Is better then Star Wars. The Stories are better. I know that J.J. is going to make the next Star Wars movie. J.J. did a very good Job making the last two star trek movies.

I know that there are many die hard fans on both sides of this issue.

Star trek has the BORG. Just think the BORG taking over the Death Star or the Borg Queen with jedi powers like Darth Vader.

George Takei is an awesome guy. His honesty gets my respect every time I listen into Howard stern.

On topic, I still question if star wars was inspired by star trek. I like both, and watched SW long before ST.. But
I think if to choose, the original ST gets my vote.

Star Wars was largely inspired by Akira Kurosawa's 'The Hidden Fortress.'   Highly recommend every Kurosawa film, most of which have been released by Criterion.  'The Hidden Fortress' Criterion DVD has a bonus feature of George Lucas discussing how Star Wars is an homage to this Kurosawa film.

The old homosexuality vs bestiality argument. You're too sharp for me. You win!

Many of the special effects crews worked on both star wars and star trek.

This shit right here made me laugh hard.

Also, I feel like JJ Abrahams Slickback III did just OK on his trek films, but not as good as anything before Voyager. I do not like how the reboot movies tend to bombard you with emotions in ways the original didn't as often or as brazenly attempt. (Case in point: first few minutes up until the beastie boys song in Abrahm's first trek film. I don't need to see a baby popping out while the daddy dies and everyone is screaming. By the way, he should not have put the beasties in Star Trek if you ask me). Another thing he seemed not to continue that I missed was the sort of pensive almost submarine-warfare strategy aspect of the original and next generation material.

That being said, the Star Trek reboot movies beat the snot out of the newer three Star Wars pictures. The original three are so perfect that it's hard to compare. Star Trek had reached some pretty shitty lows, even back in the 1960's. Star Wars didn't get shitty until the 1990s. Up until the year 1995 or so Star Wars was about flawless (save for the Star Wars Holiday Special, look that one up for a weird time)

The question is the answer, SR.

Juan

I also think Star Wars was influenced by an old Republic serial "Fighting Devil Dogs."  The villain, The Lightning,  has a machine that throws electrical torpedos through space and who wears a full face mask, helmet and cape.  Think Darth Vader played by a normal-sized actor.

Star Wars is fake. ST all the way, I'd fight over it.

At one point I would have been interested to see how this discussion played out, and threw my own hat into the ring as well. That was before the Star Wars prequel trilogy came out.

Now all interest I had in the series has completely evaporated. When I see one of the originals I try desperately to put the prequels out of my mind and watch the films as stand-alone movies like I would have back in the day but it's surprisingly tough to do. Every time Vader walks into a scene I tell myself there's no way that there could possibly be such a whiney douchenozzle under that bad ass mask.

One of the best points I've heard about the decline of the series comes from the Plinkett reviews, which went off the cliff into self-parody as themselves. Anyway, the prequel trilogy drives home the point that film is a collaborative medium. Both Star Wars and Empire, the two most solid films in the series were made by a group of engaged and motivated people who passed along what worked and what didn't, and went with what did. In fact, there were even two men at the top, George Lucas and Gary Kurtz. Once Kurtz left the series, we got Return of the Jedi which was a good film on it's own but the weakest of the original trilogy. It seemed like there was still give and take between the practical effects end of things and the boss at the top of the pyramid.

Then when the prequels were being made, all of that changed. There was no longer a boundary between what could be imagined and what could be created effects-wise and surprisingly the quality of ideas went down the toilet. Lucas was established (due to his reputation in pop culture) as the sole guru of all things Star Wars, the process went from collaboration to dictatorial and the creative process pretty much fizzled there. No modifications to scripts, no rejection of ideas on the basis of untenable for physical effects. No working and re-working drafts to fit with the budget. From what I have seen of the process it was much more command driven than a collaborative effort. It also has something to do with how Lucas noticed he made more money off of toy sales than the films themselves that change the way the films were made. Location shooting is hard work, it's difficult and a pain in the ass, and that pain directly translates to what you see on screen. All of these factors contribute to the performances we got. Ewan McGregor was robbed of a film role that could have made him a household name for an entire generation.

Trek has gone down the shitter lately as well. The Abrams movies are alright but lack a spark that made the originals what they were. I do like the new cast, I like that they have chemistry onscreen (something sorely missing between Christiansen and Portman in the Star Wars prequels), but there are still some minor points I could quibble over. They are much better than the previous movies that were based on the Next Generation cast, which all missed the mark so far they changed into action pieces (especially First Contact). The recent television efforts as well have fallen flat with me. I didn't like either Voyager or Enterprise.

So there you go. You asked.

Consider this post a long way of saying "don't care" and kicking rocks around.
