I really can't stand We Built This City.  There are no words to describe how bad it is.  The only good thing I can about Starship is they did a credible Foreigner impression:

       "Jane" using that one-finger synth note that Aldo Nova and Bon Jovi would ultilize on their breakthrough hits.

        "We Built This City" is unspeakably terrible, made worse by hack DJ's making versions for their own city. The Boston one was putrid.

        MTV played it incessantly during prime hours in Fall '85. They also made huge hits out of "Say You Say Me", "You Belong To The City", "Conga" etc...while ignoring, or minimizing new material from say...The Cure, The Smiths, REM, Husker Du..even Rush and Queen found themselves on the outside.

         Right back at ya, man. Aldo's only surviving hit here is "Fantasy", though I barely hear it even on the hoariest of classic rock stations now. Stone Temple Pilots are classic rock, now

        I think "Take Me Away" is maybe the last great BOC song of their heyday(1972-83) always loved it. Funny thing about Aldo was that he made an epic-length video(or two) for his second album, and I think MTV played about three times. It had to be 15 minutes...for a 5 minute song. Kinda like Bowie's "Blue Jean" later in '84.

I saw Aldo Nova and BOC up in Alaska in the early 80s. It was a great show. 

        I think "Take Me Away" is maybe the last great BOC song of their heyday(1972-83) always loved it.

It's definitely my favorite BOC.  The video always cracks me up with the cheese factor, but the song is so good.

      If you ever need another reason to dislike Michael Jackson/MTV, a cheesy, low budget video like "Take Me Away", released about two months before  the"Thriller" video, had no shot on MTV as budgets got bigger. Jackson, Duran Duran completely took over with their epics. And God knows how many videos came out that were from soundtracks. They were basically four minute commercials for films like "Against All Odds" "Hard to Hold", "Eddie and the Cruisers" "Footloose", "Purple Rain", "Streets of Fire"...

Oh no..  I haven't heard any of those specialized versions.  Brutal.  It's bad enough a San Francisco band was recruited to sing about LA being built on rock and roll.

I'm sticking with Hot Tuna, Jack Casady and Jourma Kaukonen weren't involved with that particular tune.
