What do you think in all seriousness ?

Is Art's returning to the airwaves going to result in less listeners for Coast ?

Or will a certain percentage remain no matter what ?

I think Jorch has captivated swarms of people whose thinking is different from mine, and they'll always think he's wonderful. Witness their call-ins.

In fact, their complacency and undemanding standards will probably keep the guy in pizza rolls for a long time to come.  ::)

Northcoaster

I think Art could have destroyed Noory if he wanted to. He was nice and decided to choose satellite radio, so it won't affect Coast nearly as much as it should.

Not many. I believe that most of the AB fans became so fed up with C2C that they stopped listening a long time ago. I know I did.

Also, remember they air at different times and one is over Sirius and the other over traditional radio.

for the last couple of years my view of c2c was viewing the site to see who the guest was by going to the site then not listening if it was something i did not care about.. so instead i would listen to clyde lewis.. but his show kind of is crap to so i check his site before tuning in also.... some nights i end up just sitting listening to nothing because both c2c and clyde lewis is running topics i don't care about....

Coast may survive. but I think the John  B Wells faction may take over and make it more political. If Knapp leaves, the ship sinks.

I think that the viewership will drop from C2C for those folks willing to spend money on Art's show getting a Sirius subscription.  But most will stick with C2C since it's easier to listen vs the online streaming/re-broadcasters such as myself and others here on the forums.  SO FAR i give Art's show an 4 stars out of 5.  Only loosing a star because the guest line up besides Michio, have been meh - but I know he's gotta re-introduce his brand of radio to a whole new set of audience members.  It will get better and I've listened religiously since the 90s I'm not about to jump ship now!  I stopped with George many moons ago, only occasionally listening, and even then I felt he was Snooray! - the moment of clarity came when Art's return was announced and Pizza Rolls stopped thanking Art Bell at the end of the show.

*EDIT*  I think Art should have went head to head with Snooray - since right now it's only the minor overlap in the scheduling (2hrs?) - they're kinda only competing on the same field for an hour 1/2 or so.  Either way, Glad Art's back and he's got my listening ear!

I am new here what is this "Pizza rolls" all about?

My two cents about having random threads, like this one, posted in the 'Dark Matter: Live Discussion' section of the forum.   It would be more consistent and logical for this section of the forum to contain only the individual Dark Matter episodes, with date and guest/topic in the thread titles.  I could be wrong, often am, but it appears that's what MV intended this section of the forum to be.

SaucyRossy

yeah these threads should move to the traiditional Art section..

That being said, as Art gets going and more people know he's back. I expect Coast to lose a half million to a million listeners and half of the streamlink members (as people switch to sirius) which is HUGE.

Art is a better interviewer, they cover many of the same topics, Art has more fun, the bumper music, DRAMATICALLY less commercials, and the show is over by 2am on the east coast and replayed immediately after during Coast incase you missed it.

So yeah, some big predictions but Art is back and he's getting close to being just as good as he was during his prime.

HAHAHAAAAAAAAAA! I also didn't know the backstory behind the pizza rolls thing, but I figured it was something cringe-inducing. I died laughing at that video. WOW!!! Thanks for sharing. I'll probably watch that thing 10 times.

Last night, Art sounded like he was in on the pizza roll joke too.

As to the question of this thread, I'm in the trial month of Sirius, but I might have to go trudging back to C2C at the end of the month because I'm currently in between jobs and broke as hell. Also, Sirius is driving me insane - when I try to listen to it on my laptop, it kicks me off every five minutes and makes me log back in. Annoying. Seems to work OK on my phone, though (knock on wood).

Fingers crossed that I'll find some kind of steady income before my trial period runs out. Good to hear Art on the radio again.

Nah you won't have to go back, myself and many others before me are streaming the shows regularly - either live or replays -

Not sure how many listeners George truly has now, but many of them will migrate over to Art's new show.

Because of his laziness - which is so in-your-face - and the fact that he ruined my favorite show and all those years were lost, I hope George loses enough listeners so that either he gets replaced as host, or the show gets canceled.

All of this is apples an oranges really.
George is terrestrial radio Art is extra- terrestrial radio.

People always vote with their wallet.
George is free,  Art is not.

I don't think Art is gonna make much of a difference in what goes on over at Coast.

Now, if somehow some deals were made and Sirius and terrestrial radio decided work together and Art was available over the AM Band, he would kill Coast.

You've been all over this forum spouting this same line.  I feel sorry for you, it's gotta be hard to work for c2c or premrat.  Hey how's that stock price looking again?  Waaa  waaa!

Sleepwalker

I believe Art's new show will suck the oxygen out of Coast to Coast.  Art's not live at the same time C2C is, but his show is rebroadcast all night until 6:00 AM Eastern time.  I like my late-night radio from 1:00 am to 5:00 and that's when I listen to Art.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who prefers their late-night radio in the middle of the night.

If nothing else, the sub 100 IQ people will be the only ones left listening to Coast to Coast.  The ones George said call in and report hearing voices.

I've been trying to extract the audio files for Art's shows from my iOhone using the Mac OS X command line and not having any luck. I downloaded a free app that will let me navigate the phone directory like it was just another computer but still haven't found the audio files. SXM really locked down there app. If I figure out a method I'll post details here

GN might improve; he listens to AB and is "taking lessons".
He is a very bad knock-off but he is "free" and has that long contract.
Yawn.

Radio is a fickle business. Just look at how many times the on-air personalities change at your local classic rock station. Talk radio is a little more stable...but it is all about how they book. If C2C ratings begin to slide (further), then PremRat will throw Snoory under the bus - no matter about his contract - they have armies of suits that will get them out of keeping him.

Comparing Sirius to terrestrial radio is pointless. They measure different metrics. Sirius knows, based on their server activity EXACTLY how many listeners are streaming Dark Matter. Broadcast radio depends on VERY UNSCIENTIFIC surveys of selected listeners - it is just a best guess - and always skewed upwards to try to snag more ad dollars.

I can only speak for myself on this -  I have long since ceased being a regular, avid listener to Coast, but I would still tune in a couple of times a week for a few minutes to see if the show had somehow gotten better.

I have not tuned into one second of Coast this week. There's no reason to "hope" - the real Coast, with Art Bell, is back in the form of Dark Matter. The current Coast is just a random, lowest-common-denominator radio show hosted by a complete dolt. The name of the show is irrelevant now.
