Art Bell retirements - question

I caught the most of Art's intro on Monday night, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something. He talked about his leaving in 2000 and how he came back in 2001.

Did he ever address why he left in 2003, or was his bad back indeed the actual reason?

Also... did he mention why after the Oct. 2010 Ghost to Ghost, he just suddenly disappeared? He was probably unhappy with Dave and the show long prior, so why all of a sudden after that Ghost to Ghost did he decide to call it quits...

Thats what I wondered that night.
Why did he come back and then retire again in 2003 and let Noory take over?
At the time he claimed it was back problems, but others said that was false.
And why stop guest hosting in 2010?
Can't be the same reason or why would he have returned at all after 2000?
If somebody gets on with Art in open lines next time, ask him for more details on the 2003 and 2010 retirements please.

I don't see any functional purpose for digging into his retirements. If he were inclined he would probably have included that in his explanation regarding premeir and clear channel

Personally I don't care what color underwear he has on. At some point trivia becomes obsessive. What possible benefit would come from knowing about what he probably isn't interested in sharing?

He gave a reason of back pain. I suffered with back pain for years until I found the right type of support while sleeping.

If you scroll down to April 1999 its the first time i see Hilly Rose hosting, which makes me think that this is when Art abruptly quit.

Would be really interesting to hear again. I was listening then and it was edge of your seat listening to find out was this a publicity stunt or what?  Turns out it was really bad news and not a stunt like a lot of people thought at the time. This was when the whole deal with his son happened, not sure when the Ottes thing happened.  MV use to play when Art asked the listeners to get in contact with him to get the recording of Ted Gunnderson and guest's short wave. Anyone who had that recording then new what was going on. The listeners to C2C didn't.  It was a really fuzzy time. At that point i would have been happy hearing Hilly Rose take over C2C, but to my dying day I'll swear I herd Hilly fall asleep on a guest LOL. If I remember correctly, during that time Hill kept people up to date on what was going on with Art, and I think he even interviewed him for like 30 min.s to get up to date on whats going on and if he was coming back. Then Art made his return and at some point we all found out what happened to his son and what was going on. That period of time was just after a huge mess in my life and hearing his problems and it seems looking back that it wasn't very long after that 9/11 happened even tho it was 2001 when that happened, Just all seems like a blur to me as one big mesh of a bad time.

He was forthcoming about some very private and personal issues. 
Clearly it was a transitional period.
I'm happy he has come back to the air for our entertainment. 
No Noory for a whole week now.  Just great progamming with crystal clear sound quality.
