Neuw episode:

Rowan Atkinson is Doctor Who - Classic Comic Relief

coinshiedence?

I've come across that one a couple times.  It makes a lot more sense than the official Dr. Who, actually, not to mention it has an appearance by a certain top box office star.

New Dr. Who series to premier Sept. 19.  Time to resurrect this thread.

It took a complete re-watch of series 8, but I'm on board with Twelve now. At first I wondered who this cranky Doctor was, but then again One and Six were decidedly crabby at times. I've liked Capaldi since Local Hero and especially in The Thick of It, so how could I not like him as the Doctor? I think it was Clara who was the irritant this series with all the drama over the Doctor's appearance

Looking forward to the series return. Rumor has it next year might be a gap year for the Doctor which means series 10 won't be broadcast until 2017, due to Steven Moffat's commitments for Sherlock and other writing assignments.

Jenna Coleman to quit her role as The Doctor's companion at the end of the current season so that she can play Queen Victoria.

Why are these actors always so eager to move on?  If I had a starring role in a cult classic like Doctor Who, I'd ride it as long as I could.  She'll never be known for anything else.

Agree, dude. Rowan's Doctor is my personal favorite.

Just finished watching The Magician's Apprentice. Brilliant X 100. Oldtime fans from the original series won't be disappointed, I promise. Moffat is writing more entries into the show's mythos, and Capaldi is brilliant. Wait for his entrance is all I have to say.  8)

Oh crap, I forgot to download it.  Thanks UC :).

P.S. The current Doctor's companion is a cute girl, if a little annoying, but why won't they give us more dead sexy beauties like Freema Agyeman and Billie Piper (who for a girl wot needs orthodontia as badly as she does was flamin' hot).

I didn't expect it to meet expectations, but it blew them away! :)  I'm glad I watched the original William Hartnell origin of the Daleks story not long ago.  My viewing was a little dampened by trying to get the sound on VLC to work properly though.

I thought the episode was brilliant. Are they filming it differently (ie: on a different medium). It had an old series feel to the filming of it. I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

I loved how they didn't modernize the look of (redacted) city scape. It had the look of a futuristic city from a 60s perspective.

You people suck me in with this stuff about how good it is and then I watch and find it is just as crummy as it ever was. As someone who was genuinely scared shitless by the Cybermen as a kid I find all of this stuff pretty vanilla. Even that one about those statues that are supposed to suck you into a parallel dimension was pretty lame. Perhaps I am unduly influenced by the fact that we aren't going to get a Jenna Coleman nude scene, but I find the whole experience pretty frustrating. It's just a load of running about and crappy effects. Cheap CG is ten times worse than the wobbly sets we used to have back in the eighties.

I'm not saying that I think you're all gay for watching this, but anyone who doesn't prefer Tom Baker to all this balls is only a couple of pints away from blowing truckers in rest stops.

That is all. Have a good day.  :)

jazmunda

It is a kids show afterall. And yes Tom Baker is THE Doctor.

Tom Baker.  Egomaniac - check.  Hammy  over-actor  - check.  Best Doctor ever - check.

I'm guessing the BBC has more funds now that they don't have to pay Clarkson any more.

I enjoyed the episode.

I liked Tom Baker a lot, but Matt's still my Doctor followed closely by Pat Troughton and Chris Eccleston. I noticed last night during the glorious emergence of Twelve that he is now wearing checked trousers very like Two's and he mentioned both the bowtie and scarf. I like the way Moffat refers to the past and retains the continuity of the character.

DW isn't everyone's show. I know a lot of people who don't care for it, but the people who do, like myself, are diehard lifelong fans, even when the series slips. There's something thrilling about the opening music and that blue box with the madman inside. But, it's not everyone's cuppa. *shrugs*

There were points where it had a cinematic feel to it. The opening scene alone would drive any kid behind the sofa. That was creepy. The monster ante has been upped the past 6 or so years, but the old ones are still favorites. The slow emergence of <> was stunning.

Great timing!  ;)

Steven Moffat is a fanboy. I've read speculation that he's been puzzling out the tricky moral relationship between the Doctor and the Daleks since he was a kid, but I never expected this. I thought it brilliant.

I consider myself an expert in tricky moral relationships. This one didn't involve axle grease and a rubber hose, did it?

It depends. What length rubber hose?

OK, madam, I can't answer that sort of question until I have got to know you better.

However, the first thing they teach you in school in this country is, it's not the length of the hose that's important, it's the width.

Now, I rather think I have given you something to ponder on today.  ;)

;D ;D ;D Two minutes after I posted that I realized I made a tactical error. Yes, I have something to ponder today indeed.

Agreed. He was the best Dr. Although Rowan Atkinson and Hugh Grant as Drs in the spoof, yummy. Even Joanna Lumley looks amazing. If I were lesbionic I'd be all over that.

We've been through this before and yet you keep wondering why your invitation to the Royal Garden Party keeps getting lost in the mail. I gave you a list of things that you can say and things you can't, and speculating about eating a box lunch with National Treasure Joanna Lumley was on the don't list!

Oh, and it's also a bad idea to grab Prince Charles by his big flappy ears and say, "wassup, dude!". I know that might be considered friendly where you come from, but over here it might lead to a lengthy operation to have one of the Queen's corgis removed.

Tom Baker has always been my favorite. He played a pretty good Rasputin in "Nicolas and Alexandra" too
The new season is off to a good roll. Perhaps they are "filming" in 4k format? Just a thought. It played pretty sharp on my 27" computer moniter.

If only... David Tennant had Billie Piper and Karen Gillian as his bisexual companions who were secretly married to each other and had Jenna Coleman as their daughter from the future... But then it would no longer be British. But, I could live that... 8)

Ok, penultimate episode of the series, Heaven Sent. Who thought it was brilliant? Who thought it was rubbish? Who's still butthurt about the sonic sunglasses?

For the record, I thought it was a tour de force by Capaldi. Last 5 minutes: Holy Crap! Last minute: Holy HOLY CRAP!!!! And the sonic sunglasses fit 12 to a T.

Just one Whovian's opinion.  8) <- see what I did there?

The episode was an interesting one-man show, for the most part. Capaldi pulled it off nicely. No offense to the previous few Doctors, but I'm not sure if they would have been as effective in an episode like this.
