Expat and others will be aware, but England and Australia have a tournament called the Ashes. This year it's played over five venues in England. Today is the final day of the first test match.., they alternate the commentary team every twenty minutes or so..

Enjoy  :)

New ball, currently misty, floodlights on but very hot! Oz's new protege Agar (aged 19) might try and reproduce his 98 runs first innings. I can't see them getting 137 from 4 innings though. But...you never know.  :)

jazmunda

I can't see us pulling it off either.

Agar will be a national hero if he does it again.

Our PM might give us all the day off tomorrow if we win.

Yorkshire pud

My mistake, I misheard earlier; new ball only just been brought on.. But it's proving a great test match. Much beer will be flowing!

Agar out, c Cook!!  Might be the break England need.

jazmunda

104 runs needed with 3 wickets in hand.

Could be all over red rover.

Click off the ads, go full screen and it gets rid of the little box...turn off the sound and have the BBC commentary on.

England need one wicket..

80 runs needed with 1 wicket in hand. Almost impossible for the Aussies to snatch a victory here. Well played you Pommie bastards.

With that kind of scoring, I'm surprised the sport hasn't taken off here in the US.

Okay; they've broken for lunch..Australia need 20 runs to win..England need to get one of the two remaining batsmen out..

Steve: The scoring is increased with a 'four'; if the ball goes to the boundary without being stopped..a six if it goes over the boundary without hitting the ground first. Consequently an over (6 balls) can generate a very high score if the batsman can hit six sixes..Some of the terminology (Okay most of it!) is a bit weird, but there's lots of dictionaries on the net to familiarise you.

Yorkshire pud

Wow!! England win by only 14 runs! But fantastic cricket from both sides..four more to go.

Well played. That was a close one. See you next test.

stevesh

Ah, but do they have an infield fly rule ?

No, but they do have silly mid on, googly and a full toss..  ;D

stevesh

You had me at 'googly'.

onan

Yeah googly is funnier than wrong'un.

Second test tomorrow, at Lords. Get it on the same link I posted above.. Starts about 11am (UK time). Will Oz square it? Will England consolidate their first win?

Yorkshire pud

Second test at Lords.. England Beat Australia by 347 runs!! Australia have been terrible. If it hadn't been for their tail enders putting up a fight, they'd have been out long before they were.. Tomorrow was the last day to play, no need now.

All over in four days.. Three more tests to play, but I can't see Australia coming back from this. Ian Botham predicted a ten nil whitewash for England, and he was ridiculed..He might have a point looking at this.. Joe Root man of the match..Yorkshire lad! (naturally) ...scored 180 in his first innings on his debut test! Bowled out the captain of Australia..Youngest ever to score a 100 against Australia.

Life is good!  ;D ;D

Booo.

Well played. Can't see us Aussies recovering. Not sure what has happened to our team over the past few years. Bring back Warnie I say.

See the movie Hope and Glory for the best explanation of a googly.

When I was a little girl, my dad would take me to Astoria Park in Queens, NYC to watch cricket. Then it seemed to disappear but recently cricket bats are turning up once again behind the local school. I haven't yet come across an actual game there, but I'm so hoping one of our sports cable stations begins broadcasting matches.

Which is a glorious movie. I think Ian Bannen steals every scene he's in. He died waaaaay too soon.

Third test starts next thursday from Old Trafford in Manchster.

Hi; nice part of the world is Ripon.

Juan

I'm glad to see you all finally enjoying a game in which there is scoring, unlike metric football.
