Details are understandably still very sketchy and confused but three young women, now aged 32, 27 and 23, have been freed from a kidnapper who snatched them from the Cleveland, OH area in 2002, 2003 and 2004, and apparently kept them in captivity and hidden all that time. The oldest was taken as a 21 y.o., the other two at 17 and 14, respectively.  It seems neighbors today saw a young woman's arms waving from the front door and heard one or more yelling for help, saying they had been taken. One neighbor called 9-1-1, but the dispatcher didn't believe the neighbor. Somehow one or more of the kidnapped women broke free, and one got on the phone with the 911 dispatcher and police came to the scene. The kidnapper and owner of the house where the women were kept, 52 y.o. Just astounding. Family and friends are surely stunned and disoriented. I wonder if police ever told any family that they should forget about their girl since she was either dead or a runaway? I'll be interested in learning more about this. I need to hear stories like this: they lift my spirit up immeasurably.

That's really astounding, glad to see it can actually occur. But the BTK case really changed my mind about "cold cases", because I was rather fixated with his case as a kid and the belief was he was incarcerated or dead...and then to sudden become revenant in late 2004, 30 years after his first set of killings. Wow.

        Non-familial kidnappings of kids seemed to be breathlessly reported upon in the 70's-80's, but seem very rare today. I guess Etan Patz in May,1979 being the first highly publicized one, the Atlanta Child Murders becoming a major national news story in summer '80 and Adam Walsh in the summer of '81.

That explains the report on our news when it said that the neighbour had passed the phone through the tiny gap in the door.. It didn't say the guy wasn't believed!


Question: will the dispatcher now be fired for a dereliction of duty? It wouldn't happen here; Sure it means that we have more than our fair share of hoax calls to the emergency services (and in my view those hoaxers should be tied to a block of cement and dropped in the sea, for a first offence), but the operator gets as much info and passes it through to the relevant service. They certainly don't arbitrarily decide what is and isn't worth investigating!! Incredible. I hope the girls concerned will fully recover.

The neighbor who made the call to 911 is getting the 15 minutes viral fame. I heard one on the radio and see there are a couple of others up at YouTube. He's already found his signature line, as I've heard him give it in two variants: "When a little pretty white girl runs into a black man's arms, something is wrong here." He's already been autotuned. Humans are cruel, selfish swine, and will torture and destroy anything they come in contact with unless constrained by morality imposed by early introduction and constant instruction, as well as existence in a society which highly values that morality.
