New Superman "Man of Steel" Movie

I am a traditionalist when it comes to Superman. I always have been. I was never a comic book guy, but always loved the Christopher Reeve movies. I was a little hesistant that the guy who made the new Batman movies would be remaking a new Superman movie. But, after seeing the trailer for this Man of Steel movie, I have to say I cannot wait for the June release of it. For those who have not seen the trailer, here it is. Any thoughts? Do you like the direction they are taking Superman?

With the exception of his suit not containing the red underpants on the outside I think it looks great. i can't wait to see it.

Yeah. I didn't like the new suit at first either. However, I think I'm starting to bend a little. I guess even and iconic character like Superman needs to be updated for the new generation every once in a while. Hell, they even are having a British guy play Superman and he looks legit in the role.

I am REALLY looking forward to this. Unlike Superman Returns in 2006 (which I found disappointing, in retrospect), I have managed to remain completely spoiler free and don't know anything about the film except what I saw in the trailers. So I'm not sure of the specific direction you mean but they've done a lot here that connects back to "canonical" events in the comics but not yet explored on film such as Clark Kent travelling the world in a journey of self-discovery before becoming Superman and saving people while making it look like an accident in some way or otherwise just staying out of the spotlight which featured as a key point in the origin told in the 1986 Man of Steel mini-series and the more recent Birthright. I like the idea of his Mom keeping a scrapbook of "paranormal events" reported in newspapers such as children being saved by an "angel" or improbable events which were actually her son working behind the scenes. I assume that Lois is investigating such things in this story judging from some dialogue in the trailer, and from one of the scenes I suspect she will stumble on the Fortress of Solitude as well, which kind of looks like a spaceship frozen in the ice (that brief clip may have been from a previous trailer). It seems they are taking the subject matter as seriously as they can and that's good, but I don't really think it will be a dark story in the way Batman was. At the end of the day Superman might have more of an edge to him than he had previously but I'm fine with that. It will be nice to see a movie with more action than the last one. After the first "Transformers" film (I decided not to waste my time on the sequels) I came out of the theatre thinking how awesome it would be if the scale of the action there was transferred into a Superhero movie. It looks like I may just get my wish.

As for the suit, it's along the same lines as what they're doing in the comics right now. So I've had a chance to get accustomed to it and it really doesn't bother me. However, what I think is weird is that people argue that the underwear on the outside look is silly. Remember that we're talking about a character who can fly, and who is impervious to physical damage here, realism is not that crucial in these stories. I'd also say that goes for Clark's disguise of wearing glasses as well. It's one of the more minor points to a dude who scoffs at the conservation of momentum. The way it was usually explained was that everyone on Krypton dressed like what we Earthlings would consider a superhero, so underwear on the outside was just a fact there! I also like the approach that Grant Morrison took in All-Star Superman, with Kryptonian fashion becoming popular in Metropolis, including brightly colored briefs on the outside of the pants. Superman is the ultimate celebrity, every woman wants him and every man wants to be him. The presence of such a character would impact every aspect of the world, so it only makes sense that some of his fashion sense might rub off on the primitive humans.
