Note not only the proximity of these earth-like planets, but the point about their being much older than us, the implication obviously being that the civilizations that we, as Coast listeners, know for a fact are on those worlds are much more advanced than ours. And we all know what that means: twinkies! And lots of them.

They're here to do the jobs Earthlings won't do. But I say "Earth things for Earthlings" and will fight these green outside agitators with all my might.

Either it's the handle of a trap door that leads via a flight of descending stairs to an underground pleasure palace worthy of Risa (points if you can cite that reference without resort to google), or it gives new meaning to the word Photoshop. Fingers crossed for the former, I been waitin' forty years for some o' that green alien 'tang.

Just listening to Tangerine Dream' "Landing on 51" and watches the accompanying video of fantasy art depicting alien worlds, from RealCool Daddio's post in the Art Bell Bumper Music thread, and having further thoughts about landing on one of those worlds orbiting a nearby red dwarf. I've been pondering this lately, wondering about different approaches. For example, we will be sending robots to the moon and building structures using 3D printing and doing some nanomanufacturing long before humans ever arrive to permanently inhabit the place. This seems a logical approach to sending out presence thirteen light years to view and visit our neighbors. I'd be interested in reading other people's ideas about this. These earth-like worlds are so close, comparatively speaking, it's quite compelling.

I was wondering if it (the robot arm?) could be the remains of something sent by perhaps another country (or our own) and was never publicized?
Or, maybe it is the remnant of the rover's arm itself, that has not yet happened???? A peek into the future!!!  :o

not little green men, ROBOTS!
or maybe just their arms...

Tiny robots Rachael...the 'arm' is apparenntly about 5mm tall. Mind you, it would tie in with Hoaglands theory of apartments that would be populated with ants.

Maybe you can help me; (bear with me on this).. Several years ago (1989-90) I watched a si-fi film on TV, Ii have no idea what it's title was..I wish I did. But the soundtrack through it was incredible..in the end crediits I saw it said 'music by Tangerine Dream'...naturally it didn't say what it was called! I tried to find out both titles (film and music) subsequently but to no avail. Looking oon Wiki...my heart dropped..They've written millions of film sound tracks, so I'm not the wiser... Unless....?

That's very interesting, remotely controlled robots. Matter of fact, aren't we already developing the ability to do that with the Mars Curiosity Rover? NASA sends instructions to it telling it where to go and when to dig, and so forth. Meanwhile, along the lines of building materials and habitats and such through nanomanufacturing, as I mentioned before, check this out: http://phys.org/news/2013-02-3d-micrometer-scale.html Rather amazing, if you axe me.

astroguy had something like this on his podcast maybe 3 months ago? I highly recommend listening to it. I don't have the link, hopefully astroguy can pop in here and help out.

I've eliminated that one Caruthers. I was really hoping it was that one, but watching it on YT and listening didn't prompt my memory; maybe I'm just getting senile!  :) ..But thank's for the reply.

My question is, are we really searching for other life forms, civilizations, where we fit in, or just for another planet to eventually muck up, instead of repairing our own. Unless the powers that be know it is already too late.
Earthlings, the slumlords of the universe...look out, here we come!

SETI is supposed to be doing that Rachael. As for what the long term implications of it will be, who knows? I'd like to think that iif we did discover life elsewhere, we'd leave well alone. Not least because any direct contact would likely result in the extermination of us and them due to bugs and viruses we and they have no resistance to.

Wasn't SETI shutdown?

Oh I don't know, was it? In that case, I don't know what the official liine is in looking for LGM...Jodie Foster?  :)
