Most likely they will be purchased by a Chinese conglomerate, who will reduce costs by outsourcing manufacturing to China and modifying the recipe to be a blend of newspaper, antifreeze, and rat poison.

Remember Choco-pies?  No too long ago I found them being sold in an Asian Supermarket.  Made by a company in Korea.

Perhaps there's more to this company closing than meets the eye. I mean, think about it. How convenient. One week after Colorado and Washington legalize recreational marijuana, Hostess announces they're closing. Coincidence? Me thinks not. Government Conspiracy in action. Go after the Ding Dong and Twinkie eating stoners of America. The right wing is also targeting the lesbian stoners by axing their Dolly Madison Zingers.

Maybe Little Debbie wants a monopoly on munchies.

(Not) Steve Doocy: "What's to prevent all these kids from potting up and gorging themselves on oatmeal cream pies?"

Oh, so *that's* why my Korean ex put steak sauce on my Rottweiler. I wondered about that.

Quote from: someguy on November 16, 2012, 11:29:12 AM"Executives at Hostess, of course, haven't suffered. In 2002, Hostess granted its CEO a 300 percent raise, and at least nine top executives received raises between 35 percent and 80 percent. Since 2002, the company has had six CEOs---none of them could turn the company around, but all of them were paid many times what workers get, and they got golden parachutes as they left."

Just curious... the only source I could find for your quote was from a socialist organization - in fact, it was from socialistworker.org

So I'm wondering - as Hostess is a private company, and private companies rarely divulge personnel issues such as salaries, perhaps you could supply legitimate news organizations findings so as to bolster your socialist site's claims? Legitimate journalism usually requires at least two substantive sources.

At the site you quoted, these were merely anecdotes. It's not that I'm saying your accusations are false, but let's be honest - using a known socialist website as the singular source for such information makes the information dubious at best. Perhaps you have SEC filings or court records to substantiate your claims?

what you bet Someone takes over the company?

Another chorus of "The Internationale", comrades, and then we march on the Unemployment Office!

Hostess is too big to fail.  It will tank our economy.  Government buyouts & whatnot.

You know they (or at least the brand name) will get bought by another company.  Too big to fail, bro.

Don't care about those, but somebody better take over making the cherry and blueberry pies, or there will be trouble.

In the immortal words of Don McLean...

Don't despair and die, there is still Little Debbie.  I have always personally considered a knock-off the Hostess.  Go check it out yourself, Suzy Q's seperated at birth, and even a twinkee twin.

With her preservatives, it is almost like an embalmed breakfast treat.  Little Debbie will never depart.

Jeez, those things are like death in a package.  They are the Big Macs of snacky-cakey food.  Used to love them till I read the label once.  Definitely stuff you wanna take on a climb of Everest.

The Mormons surely saved Kool-Aid from vanishing.

For probably the only time ever on this site, I actually mean Kool-Aid. The drink. It's a little packet of about a teaspoon of something and you add two cups of sugar and some water and there ya go. A real Mormon-pleaser!

Never, never read the label on stuff like that. I read the label on a 7-Eleven burrito once, and haven't been back in their stores since.

Not to mention their odd combination of homophobia and latent homoeroticism.  I think Jack likes the cock and isn't sure what to do about it.

You opened a can of worms. There were a series of Christian Archie comics published by Spire. They were fine for the boys and girls who went to church. However, Chick's Crusader line was horrible. They were targeted at the same audience, but they were nightmare-inducing collections of distasteful, disturbing imagery guaranteed to warp the minds of the unlucky kids who read them. Chick published some non-Crusaders comic books too, but they were just as awful. I still recall his message on the cover of the "graphic novel" about Noah's Ark, which I'm very slightly paraphrasing. "We wanted to make sure that the youth saw the drowned babies and children in the flood's waters." Sleep well! There are some cool web sites dedicated to Chick's tracts. You can find both historical and satirical versions. We imitated the over-the-top people in his publications when we were kids.

i remember when i was a kid i was at the neighbor's house when i asked them if they had any comic books to read.  they only read Jack Chick comics.  the neighbor kid handed me a comic about how in the future the UN will drive around your neighborhood in a Jeep with a guillotine on the back.  if you didn't have the Mark 0' the Beast on your forehead they decapitated you in front of your family and everyone else in the neighborhood.  upon reading this comic i think my response was "what the fuck is this shit".  and was never allowed inside their crazy christian house again.

They probably thought that the decapitations were less corrupting and damaging to their kids' psychological states than the regular adventures of Superman and Spiderman would be. Their kids likely weren't allowed to see "Snow White" because of its "occult themes". It had a witch in it. Yet, the concerned parents were fine with drawings of giant snakes that ate unfortunate sinners in Third World torture chambers (a real Chick scene).

Don't have anything to add about Jack Chick, except that he's a demented bible thumper with a lurid imagination, but I just saw this and thought it belonged on this thread:

"Dost thou think, because thou art virtuous, there shall be no more cakes and ale?"

Well, in this case, yes. For it could indeed be the end of deep-fried Twinkies....

Nucky Nolan

Little Debbie is dancing on Twinkie the Kid's grave in the snack cake cemetery. The old Mark Twain quote likely applies, though.
