Rush Limbaugh.....I realize he's a shock jock, but many believe his crap and the remarks are incredibly insensitive.
Which is what he's been doing, and in order to precipitate your very reaction, for almost 25 years.

Does that mean capitalism is without fault? Of course not! But the alternative is far more bleak.  I`d much rather depend on self-reliance, family and faith than the benevolence of a bloated, flatulent, nanny state, teetering on insolvency.

Faith is abstract and has no bearing on success or failure; self belief does however. What happens though if you haven't the family or the self reliance because of circumstances? 43 million of the US population are functionally illiterate. That is more than a lot of countries' entire population. China has for many years had one of the highest literacy rates (multi lingual) in the world, long before it's renascence into using it's own capital ambitions and taking over the planet.  The diseases that decimated great swathes of Europe were not wiped out because of capitalism in entirety;  that was down to chemists working for many years on their own for little reward, but their work is invaluable. In the UK capitalism's nasty exploitative side culminated in the general strike of the 30's. The population at large decided enough was enough and said they would no longer tolerate poverty wages, dangerous and insanitary conditions and dragged in many of the more favourable working practices enjoyed by people all over the world today..We all have gripes at some of the more ludicrous health and safety rules, but those strikers of the 30's were the germ that started the practice of workplaces being safer places to work. It was also instrumental in stopping the practice of children working down coal mines, forced to clean chimneys and losing their limbs and fingers among the looms in cotton and wool mills. Children instead went to school, learned to read and write, as their fathers went to fight in the war in 39...and we know many never came back..after the war the incoming government decided that health and continued good life was fundamental to the workforce continuing to work; the National Health Service was born. Free at the point of use irrelevant of income or wealth. Many of the medical practices and disease treatment now used the world over were developed in the NHS.

Among the nasty mill owners were truly great philanthropists; before Du Pont swore he'd never have another disaster that wiped out his workforce in Delaware there were men of worth in the UK who not only built factories, but the housing with sanitation for the workers and schools to send the children to. Not only that, but many also had farms so those same families not only stayed together, but had good food too.

Capitalism isn't the snake oil; and neither is it entirely bad. But it has resulted in great destitution for people in countries that most in the US wouldn't know where to find in an atlas. Western corporations have been responsible for terrible destruction..heard of Bhopal in India? I bet many in the US haven't; Sobering to read and I can guarantee that if it happened in the US (or similar) your government and population would want the CEO's head on a stick...Oh you did, the oil spill in the gulf of Mexico.. In Bhopal's case not one US based UC director has stood trial or even gone to India to face the victims. But hey, they're foreign, and it doesn't count cause they ain't 'mericun.

Andrea Tantaros on FOX making fun of living on food stamps, saying she'd "look fabulous" if she did. Everyone laughs.

Greg Gutfeld on FOX criticizing Mario Batali (wants to slap him around) for trying the food stamp budget to raise awareness, saying he should instead be performing more charity work. Everyone laughs. Some of those commenting admit they never heard of Batali,  who is in fact involved is various charitable organizations.

As Onan mentioned, support for letting someone die if they didn't purchase health insurance and were facing expensive, life threatening illness. This was during a Rep presidential debate.

Mitt's 47% comment. That's roughly 147 million that according to the claim refuse to help themselves.

Matthew Vadum's American Thinker article Registering the Poor to Vote is Un-American. Registering them to vote is like handing out burglary tools to criminals.

That`s it?? Really? You have a couple of snipped comments, one from the host of a 3AM comedy show (incidentally, it`s a GREAT show!) who routinely talks about unicorns and gay erotica, houseboys and insists his co-host lives under a bridge in a cardboard box.  Oh, and the microscopic, out-of-context-joke, Andrea Tantaros was making about reducing her food bill? That`s IT?? That`s all you have? That`s all HuffPo had?To prove how evil and heartless people on the right side of the aisle are? At least onan has a brain.

Oh, the Mitt Romney "47%" thing. Figures you`d try to make something of that. You do know you`ve completely butchered the context of THAT quote, as well, right? No, of course you don`t know.  Everybody with at least double-digit IQ knows Romney was speaking in a strictly political electorate context, e.g., "We can`t worry about 47% of the voters, they are going to vote for the President. Forget about them, we need to pursue the other 53% who pay income taxes ". Got that? It`s politico-speak. Not the slightest bit controversial.

To insinuate the Romney`s -- and similar high achievers -- find it desirable for people to suffer and go without, is obscene on so many levels. But that`s the implication people like you make when you constantly demagogue as if those on the left are the sole arbiters of human compassion. You`re insane if you think that. I know many liberals, many in my own family. Hell, I married one. In fact, I used to BE one!  and believe me, they, in NO way, share your insanity.

You`re a moron. Go away.

You lost all credibility when you breathlessly tried to push  that insane narrative about Bin Laden`s family receiving special treatment the day after 9/11.

Then again, I suppose you could  just be a bad liar. In either case, you are dismissed.

You're something else; you're really a rather obnoxious little shit. What is it? The words too long and complex for you? You're inability to accept that others who don't share your predilection for tight fitting superman suits and I'm guessing padding (know what I mean Big boy?  ;) ) have a voice? I love your particular version of free speech that involves calling anyone you don't agree with a moron or a liar..It's quite telling about your own particular thought processes. This liberal wife of yours; has she ever been tempted to reach your heart? Maybe with a bread knife through your rib cage? Or do you both have dressing up games? She as Michelle Obama? Go on, you would... ;D

Jeeeze I crack myself up, I bet you're rolling big boy.

I began to think a little differently when, during the crash of 2008, my job was eliminated.  I applied for hundreds of jobs and got almost no response.  I had been paying unemployment insurance premiums for 40-years, and this was the first time I had to claim benefits for any extended period.  And I heard that idiot Hannity railing against these bums on unemployment.  I had sent him a resume and application, too. Of course I got no response.

What are people supposed to do?  Lay in the street and starve?  Hannity world complain about that, too.

Similar situation over in the UK. Guys who have been in the same companies in the same well paid and skilled jobs for similar lengths of time, suddenly told the job is gone together with the other few thousend in the same company that will be sold off and turned into a car park. Or just left derelict. These are not people who have no desire or skills or lack of responsibility. No-one knows the reality of losing it all, until it's gone; and it's no consolation when it isn't your fault.

And what`s this nonsense about the "talking heads" demonizing folks that are incapable of caring for themselves? How about some names and examples. The fact is, you can`t provide any,
I believe I answered the challenge of providing at least one example. My post was in response to your quote and nothing else. Your original comment claims the right does not participate in demonization of the needy, and I dissagree. That doesn't mean everyone does it, that they think it, or that it's behaviour exclusive to this particular segment (the rich). I have no idea what these people think, I can only go by what they said.

QuoteOh, the Mitt Romney "47%" thing. Figures you`d try to make something of that ... It`s politico-speak. Not the slightest bit controversial.
I know that you know what a controversy is. Why would you say his comments were not? Maybe among like-minded people they weren't, but polls, an election, and plenty of debate proves they were. This board proves they were, just look around.

QuoteBut that`s the implication people like you make when you constantly demagogue as if those on the left are the sole arbiters of human compassion.
Nope. Never said that, and I apologize if it was implied. There's compassion on all sides as well as indifference and worse. You are the one making assertions about the right, and asked for names and examples. Feel free to read my post history, and if you still think your comment above is correct make the case.

There were no qualifiers on what talking heads to use. Andrea and Gutfeld have a major forum to speak from at FOX and a majority conservative listener base. Their comments were not out of context. I used some links to Huffington Post because that's where the videos were - it's irrelevant the site unless you claim these are doctored videos and they actually didn't say it. My biological structure is of no relevance to your position.

Romney's 47% quote - to me that's in the same category as Obama's 'you didn't build that' quote.  Everyone is going to read into it what they will.

You provided nothing. You posted a couple of links from the smear merchants at the HuffPo. A couple of links, out of context, and with no background. If you honestly, in your heart, believe that shows "the right", "demonizing" those that are incapable of caring for themselves, then, sir, you are insane.

Secondly, the Huffington Post exists for one reason -- to smear anybody right of Castro that dare speak publicly. You want to talk about demonizing? Look no further than the HuffPo.

In fact, I think the following link sums up my feelings about the "compassionate" liberals, who would rather sit idly by while the most heart-breaking, pervasive,  generational poverty imaginable is permitted to flourish. They find it much more expedient to demagogue and finger-point in order to secure another elected term for themselves or their politician of choice.

The Huffington Post went after comedian Adam Carolla because he dared  challenge one of the true sweetie-pies of the "compassionate" left, Gavin Newsome, on his ineptness in tackling the societal problems that affect his own constituents. Carolla really nails it here:

I have that kind of outrage for almost all talking heads. And almost all politicians. But at the end of the day you have to pick your place to rest.

I have always like Adam Corolla and I think he is speaking the truth in that video.

Quite honestly I don't know who the fuck the newsome (sp) and I visit huffpo only slightly more often than I do rush.

I have seen liberals ostracize those that break from the herd, I have also seen the right do the same. It is ugly and it is cheap.

FTF, try to resist the need to label people engaging you in discourse as moronic and insane. Who knows, you may actually formulate a valid argument unhindered by personal attacks.

Here is what I found on huffingpost about Adam Corolla and Gavn Newsome.

An article that pretty much gives a word by word transcript of the discussion between newsome and corolla that ends with this sentence:
Quote"Listen to the full interview on The Adam Carolla Show, and let us know what you
think in the comments section."
Then this article:
QuoteAdam Carolla Women Arent Funny
Adam Carolla: 'Everyone Can Kiss My Ass'
Then other articles going further back than February of last year.
I didn't see an article calling Corolla any variation of a bigot. Certainly an argument could be made that just reporting this kind of conversation may get someone's shorts in a snit. But I didn't see that. Just Adam Corolla making the charge. I like Corolla and don't think him to be dishonest but this may well be an overraction, I dunno.
But lets for the moment agree it is all about the lack of family support and lack of interest in education. Now what?

Addendum:
Others are certainly welcome to search huffpo further... I have a headache and this is all I am gonna do till it goes away.

Why didn`t you post the article? Clearly you have a serious blind spot. The article is entitled "Adam Carolla To Gavin Newsome: Whats Wrong With Blacks And Latinos?"

More racial insinuation by the smear merchants at HuffPo. The interview had almost nothing to do with race. Did you listen to the whole thing? Of course not. But reading the article one comes away with the impression that it was SOLELY about race, and Carolla is a  racist de facto.

The EU is a money pit.. a bureaucratic, bloated, corrupt leviathan that just keeps growing more heads. It was devised for one purpose only, and that was to provide artificial subsidy for France. Largely agricultural, almost every piece of legislation and policy is geared to providing help to French farmers. But like all monsters, it's too big too die now..but it'll drag a lot more than Cyprus down.. Not looking good.

I thought it was created to provide a subsidy for France and to finally allow Germany to rule Europe.

If Germany has any designs on ruling Europe (and I strongly suspect not) they're on a hiding to nothing, because they certainly won't be taking their population with them. It's different times. Europe mainland has no internal borders any more like it once did. There is the freedom to move and be employed where you like without work permits. Merkel is currently trying to hold the ship together and she is losing patience I suspect with the countries who have shafted themselves..but she isn't blameless. It's so complex, it's impossible to say what the final outcome will be. Look on the Cyprus thread for the link to Peston's analysis..he explains it far better than I can.

Interesting clip, Slipstream.  I heard some pretty good points from maybe all of the speakers.  I must be a weird blend of Liberal/Libertarian (if I understand that second term correctly).  I like that we have a powerful military force (though I think we should cut its budget and be much, much slower to "put boots on ground" in other countries).  I like that our intelligence community can do some pretty astonishing things with technology -- I just want them to not abuse that technology and the law-abiding citizens of our country.  I like having a free press, but I sometimes wish we as a nation did a better job (in the free market) of NOT supporting those who abuse the free press ideal by spewing harmful horseshit in the pursuit of a dollar.  I don't really care what two conscenting adults do in the privacy of their bedrooms.  I could go on like this for a while, but I'd like to hear what a few of you guys have to say....
