The rich have also hired thugs to shoot and kill those that want better working conditions. The rich have also ransacked countries to bring you a banana for breakfast. The rich have also sent their profits to other countries to avoid their civic responsibilities. The rich have destroyed ecosystems and have shown little care.

Lots of people work hard and have their retirements stolen from them by the rich.

The game is rigged, and it isn't to the betterment of the less thans.

At some point wealth is no longer about resources and production. As evidenced by the derivative markets. Are there good rich people? Of course, but the bad ones are capable of long lasting harm to an economy and a society. And worshiping them is probably the worst sin of all.

A not too incisive look at comments on youtube shows that although this film is based five hundred years hence; the kernel of collective stupidity isn't that far in the future. Some really do believe that intelligence is a dirty word; borne out by the reluctance to be associated with it, even on the basis of tenuous loyalty. The language ability portrayed in the film is here and now in some parts; now that is sad.

I really get annoyed by the "we can out fight the military on our home ground." This shows the insight of a 4 year old.

First off a terrorist attack doesn't fortify support. so the argument of the terrorists blowing up the world trade towers doesn't equate to fighting a sustained "war".

Who the hell is the enemy you will target? Government offices? with civilians inside? what if your girl friend's father's uncle is in the building?

Or do you think you will win a war against our "tyrannical" government just fighting in your back 10 acres.

Idiot.
Agree wholeheartedly and whenever I read about "reasonably armed mililtia"(talk about oxymoronic) taking on reservists, it's just beyond disgusting. But that's our climate, where modern day Birchers/Liberty Lobby types are mainstreamed, thinking that old lesbians being allowed to marry is an assault on their freedom, that their taxes(and their taxes alone) are subsidizing a permanent underclass. But it's the psychosis of the times, where people making 40 grand are siding with millionaires and demonizing people making 10 grand. What a dismal state we're in and I'm not talking geography.

Is this the presumption that those who didn't vote for Obama are the intelligence of the USA? Jeeeze, you really have got problems! You had GW Bush as a president remember; not the brightest candle on the stick.

Unlike you, I presume very little.

And with respect to Bush ("43"), I seem to recall the country being in far better shape then,  than it is currently. I certainly wasn`t in lockstep agreement with the man -- on a bevy of issues -- but at least unemployment was much lower (not to mention taxes!) and the economy was growing at a fair rate.

Remind me again; who was president when the global economic crises started? Who was president when you had one of the single biggest attacks on your own beloved constitution with the formulation of the so called Patriot act? And who was president when the immediate family of the  number one suspect after the attacks on NY and DC was allowed out of the country on the 12th september? I know police in some places work really quick, but to absolve the family of the number one suspect (also remarkably deduced Holmes) is breathtakingly stupid and a dereliction of duty, or complicit with the administration's consent..

I`m not surprised by your bizarre fixation on President Bush; most folks like you still harbor deep-seated bitterness in that regard . It`s a little sad, and somewhat pathetic, but..it is what it is.

However, what I do find surprising is your adherence to long-ago disproved, left-wing conspiracy theories.  The Bin Laden family was not permitted to leave the country on the 12th, and frankly, everyone knows it -- except you, apparently. They were interviewed and cleared by the FBI and allowed to board a plane for Saudi Arabia nearly a week after the no-fly order was lifted.

You`re either a moron, or a rather unconvincing liar. You make the call.

Was 9/12 the first you'd ever heard of Osama bin Laden?  It wasn't for the US national securi,ty team.  I myself thought of bin Laden first on 9/11.  How about our security folks already knew of him, had vetted his family, and knew he was an outcast with no contact for years. And dang, they were right.

Fixation? Oh I have far more pressing things than he.. And the FBI spent an entire week interviewing a family? "Did you know or have anything to do with it?"..."No". "Okay, you're free to go" Is that how it goes after mass murder? Yeah, I guess so.

And no, I'm not a conspiracy theorist; if you look at other posts you'd know that. Alas, you're natural curiosity is stymied with who knows what. Incidentally, is that you in the avatar? Interesting what the boys go for these days.

That is hilarious! I seem to remember that terrorism hadn't been invented as far as 90% of the US population were concerned until then. But they lapped it up when the spin liars in the Whiitehouse didn't stop the rumour of Bin laden and Saddam Hussein being best buddies and worked in league to commit the atrocities. Even today, some Americans think SH did it! Some even probably blame lesbians, so it isn't a stretch to blame someone who had nothing to do with it; but still was the catalyst to flatten Iraq and 100 000 (at least) of it's population. Tell me, what would the reaction be in the street of US cities if the US was blanket bombed simply for being alive?

It's interesting that you bounce back and forth between bursting with pride that you don't have guns in the UK or Western Europe and showing your experience when it comes to all the terrorist groups that were killing, maiming, kidnapping and blowing things up pretty much unchecked for decades - the IRA, Red Army Faction/Baader-Meinhof, Red Brigades, the Basque ETA, and plenty of other groups allover western Europe.

To tell you the truth, if I had to choose I'd rather have the occasional lone gunman.

I didn't blame Bush for 9/11. But he sure made it worth exploiting..Tell me this: If Obama or any other democratic President had been in power then, would you have given him the easy ride? Especially the economic one? After all you in an early post berated Obama for five years and he should have done what you wanted him to (why didn't you tell him man?)...Bush was in from 2000--(I was in GA in december as they decided how it was going in FL... ) until 2008, had all the pieces in place and it still got stuffed by the banks...So were you one of those who was pissing on Bush's bonfire in late 2007?

Pride that we don't exercise a right to unfettered murder? Yeah, I suppose there's some logic there, A guess the analogy is as Chris Rock said  "I take care of my children" when referring to misplaced pride. You're not supposed to kill people, to do so isn't the default position for a civilised society. So it's less pride and more I accept that I'm more likely to be killed by a falling tree that has been struck with lightning, than murdered.

Quote

Yes, but then more people have been killed last year in the US than those murdered because of the PIRA, ETA etc, attacks, ever. By a factor of about 2.5.
That doesn't in any way diminish the cowardly and mindless terror they inflicted, but put's it into perspective.. Did you know that someone armed is more rather than less likely to be shot and killed themselves?

I don't giveBsh an easy ride.  He was the worst President in history - until Obama came along.  I'm just saying he wasn't to blame for the 2008 meltdown - there are plenty of people to blame, but he's a ways down on the list.

As for Obama, he forfeited the benefit of the doubt long ago.

May I suggest no one is siding with the millionaires - what some of us are doing is defending economic freedom (freedom-of-exchange, Capitalism) for ourselves and the country.  It's what built the country and made it wealthy.

Making birth control available to those that are financially strapped costs a pittance, yet a woman that broached the subject was called a slut...

Whoa. You're barking up the wrong tree about huge "entitlements" to "big business" - Since his reign began that's squarely in the lap of Barry O'Bama. Not since the 19th century and the robber-barons have we seen such economic cynicism put into actual practice as with BO's crony capitalism; in which he can neatly exempt his corporate buddies from the near-bankrupting requirements of such of his legislative legacies as O-Care. How does one get to be an Obama Buddy and save millions? Why, become a generous donor to His Excellency, and you magically become exempt. As we have seen, scores of so-called "capitalists" are actually just opportunists, as they latched on to the Obama Goody Train.

Need we even mention the apoplexy which would have struck "the media" (as they were formerly known in the day before they became loyal and very, very silent members of The Ministry Of Information) had George Bush even dreamed of such a corrupt practice?

Juan

There is already a line drawn, and it has been drawn for decades.  The 1933 and 1968 firearms acts limit machine guns to federally licensed individuals.  Heavier weapons are outlawed.  Teflon bullets were outlawed in, I believe, the 90s.

Our local sheriff (responsible for all law enforcement in a city of about a million) wants the purchaser license passed.  He says now if an individual sells a gun to a convicted felon, only the convicted felon is guilty of a crime.  If the purchaser license passes and a seller fails to ask for the license, the seller will be guilty of a crime.  The sheriff says he will send out undercover agents to make gun buys and arrest people who don't ask for the license.  It sounds to me like another police attempt at going the easy way to get arrests -  and not doing the hard work of stopping real crimes.  Very easy for police to lie about whether the seller asked for the license or not.

BTW, I heard several CBS radio newscasts during which the federal gun bills were referred to as "gun safety."  Sounds to me like they are doing just what George Orwell warned about - confusing the language so that rational debate can't be held.

I wasn't speaking of the bail out. I was speaking to large unmanaged payments to large corporations... mostly the military industrial complex. But also to large sums of monies going to other businesses as well, including farming subsidies.

Most probably do not remember when enron went belly up and citibank recieved 300 million to offset loans they gave to enron.

the bail out is another issue, but do not so quickly drop the bush administration from that foul pile of dung. They were the first to promote the too big too fail. In many ways, no thanks to the banking industry, the bail out did help.

Yes, these are all examples of douchebaggery.  My point is our system isn't perfect and never will be, but with it we've managed to become a country where everyone has opportunity and most of us live a very comfortable middle class or better life.   Let's work to make it better - there are still too many people left behind - and a lot of the time it's because they have not been pointed in the right direction.  Too many people want to destroy what we have ('we are the ones we've been waiting for', 'we're going to fundamentally transform' this nation, 'you didn't build that', all the rest of the class warfare rhetoric) without offering a better solution.

Their is a phrase that describes it:  'to make the perfect the enemy of the good'

What are you talking about, "on the 'capitalism' side"? That would include practically everyone in the country. And what`s this nonsense about the "talking heads" demonizing folks that are incapable of caring for themselves? How about some names and examples. The fact is, you can`t provide any, because you`re merely parroting the standard left-wing, party line of, US=good, and compassionate; THEM=evil and greedy -- which is utter tripe.

Conservatives have a problem with those that refuse to help themselves, not those that are incapable of helping themselves. Furthermore, capitalism has lifted more people out of starvation and poverty than any force known to man.  In a mere few years, because of capitalism, starvation and mass death was eliminated from the landscape of Western Europe.  Think how South Korea, Japan, and now, other Asian countries like India and China have benefited from capitalism. Literally, billions of people being lifted out of life-threatening poverty. All due to those evil, greedy, capitalists.

Does that mean capitalism is without fault? Of course not! But the alternative is far more bleak.  I`d much rather depend on self-reliance, family and faith than the benevolence of a bloated, flatulent, nanny state, teetering on insolvency.

I probably should have used something a bit more specific but I wrote that rather quickly, and it does speak to the issue. Is capitalism bad? no more so than a jelly doughnut I guess... a few of them are quite nice too many of them... well you get the point.

I am not going to pull every quote and diatribe that vilifies welfare because much of the blather is far too wordy to get to the point.

How about Welfare Queen? suggests corruption by dishonesty and abuse, made famous by Ronald Reagan and completely made up.

How about Takers? Yeah just a bunch of leaches, if we could just get rid of them...

How about the bumper sticker "I work hard because millions on welfare depend on me!" Yeah, going to work, those greedy welfare skunks... they don't want to work.

How about "The more dependent you are, the more ignorant you
must be, and that's how they want you." no it isn't, not by a mile.

Not that you probably care but welfare has shown to be quite effective in reducing poverty. Not only in this country but many other countries as well...

Yeah capitalism is good, until it isn't. Enron, Exxon, Archer Daniels Midland, Arther Anderson, Bristol-Meyers Squibb, Global Crossing... and the list goes on.

As Onan mentioned, support for letting someone die if they didn't purchase health insurance and were facing expensive, life threatening illness. This was during a Rep presidential debate.
