Suicides now leading cause of injury-related death

So suicide rates could actually be significantly higher. Oh goodie. Linking the increase to the horrible economy is even likely. Making it Bush's fault will be achieved within 24 hours by having an appropriate expert assessment of some archaeological discoveries in Lascaux cave region

              I just hope my eventual "death by misadventure" isn't labeled a suicide. I think roughly 42% of my posts here would fit snugly in the suicidal spectrum. So I understand where there could be confusion. I'm insisting my disincarnation will be due to drunken fun gone awry, not suicide.

          I'm sure the shrinks would insist that this post alone would make it 43%. Gallows humour in itself makes them weary.

Not a hint of orange indeed! My maternal grandparents only allowed a tri-color of Green,White and Gold in their home. I guess even Syracuse could irk them as much as William and Mary. I don't remember seeing carrots around the house either. And why is a carrot more orange than an orange?

              It is an eye-catching poster, though. The potato stained version of "Stop Snitchin'.

          And the unintended(I think) irony of being on a site ending in the word "gab", with an avatar warning of consequences of such. Oh my. I think the shrinks could up the suicidal posts to 44% because clearly this indicates self-loathing and willingness to harm oneself.

Aren't you hopeful that there will be change?  If you answer in the affirmative, then you have found the hope.  If you answer in the negative, then you are a statistic and need to listen to a Coast mental health show, or perhaps a member of the class that is a subject of this thread.

Y'all heard this news, I'm assuming.   For some reason I'm fascinated by suicide.  I am not suicidal nor do I contemplate it but I wonder why other people do.  I don't understand what could drive a person to that point.

Aside from the obvious factors (bad economy, access to guns and other things, returning Vets with mental problems, drug and alcohol abuse, over-medication of people, the internet having sites with instructions on how to do it, internet bullying, etc) what about societal changes such as:
-glorification, of a sorts, of suicides (famous people real or in movies)
-the expansion/promotion of suicide and "right to die" in many countries
-the changes in views of suicide by religions and society in general (in the past it was taught suicides would go to hell, couldn't be buried in consecrated ground, and families often were ashamed of it. And more Eastern ideas have gone into the culture with regard to reincarnation, many lives, etc.)
-or even the video-game culture (in games you often have "unlimited" lives and killings aren't real, you just reset and start over.)
Could any of those other factors help causing this increase? Make it "easier" for a person to make the decision to commit suicide?

Or, it could also be a phenomena of reporting? In the past many suicides were likely ruled an "accident" a "death by misadventure" etc often as a way of comforting or protecting the victims (I say that because the family and friends of suicides are victims.) Even today in the case of single car crash deaths suicide is often suspected but unless a note or some evidence the police might find for an "accident." Lastly, forensics, record-keeping, and professionalism has increased so maybe we can find out a suicide whereas in the past it would be ruled accident, etc.
