QuoteGeorge Noory: We've made it easier to find us...Going to georgenoory.com takes your right to the Coast website.

From the LCARS artbell.com to the coasttocoastam.com website and now it's georgenoory.com. The takeover is complete. The invasion has been a success.  There's nothing more to say really.

Noory did that 10 years ago when he took over as weekday c2c host.
He also made sure on the website and in radio promos the show title is "Coast to Coast AM WITH GEORGE NOORY"  :P

I was listening to Alex Bennet interview Alan Colmes the other day.

They briefly talked about late night radio talent. What sounded like a mixture of chagrin and snickering came forth with the name noory.

Unfortunately, Art suffered the same disrespectful indignity. In fact, I still hear Art`s name invoked, to this very day, by some "radio/TV hosts".

Was it about Noory or the subject matter of the show?

Colmes probably needs someone to look down on these days, after years of being Pawn Vanity's punching bag to the left.

It is tough to say. The comment was definitely dismissive of noory, and probably as colmes was thinking also included the subject matter. But that is mostly my impression. You know how you can hear something and gather a great amount of feeling from the tone of one word? that is what happened in this instance.

Yeah it seems some have difficulty stepping out of their level of importance to play with other ideas. Perhaps they believe it lowers their credibility. If you can't have more than one aspect your credibility is already at zero.

In fairness(which is so unlike me) I must say that Art Bell's name kind of evoked a dismissive response from "inside radio" types, as well. I went to a symposium of the state of radio in 2000(yeah, what a party) and when Art Bell was brought up, the panel hemmed and hawed and acknowledged his relative importance...but seemed to treat him with a "he's good at that" minimalization, essentially painting C2C as a novelty show.

I believe C2C has always been viewed by the inside radio folks as a bit of a "oddball", not to be taken seriously. Noory, however, has turned it into assclown central where cranks, paranoiacs, fakes, phonies and frauds can gather without any resistance from the host.

I can't believe I am defending c2c. I get rather annoyed with talk radio and the apparent mindset of educating rather than entertaining. Limbaugh for instance with his "school of conservative studies" is all about entertainment. Education isn't about using a cudgel even a metaphorical one. All talk radio, except for the emergency broadcast system is about entertainment. That doesn't preclude information but it isn't the same as reasoned dialogue. In many ways, Art Bell's C2C was more academic than the pundits that continually tell us what is right and wrong.

The announcement is so silly. Every Internet savvy person who listens to the show already knows to find the show at CoastToCoastAM.com. I've never once heard anyone reference GeorgeNoory.com (though I admit, I'm more of a casual listener, and even less so of late).

Such a post by Noory would suggest that there were enough people getting lost or confused when making the attempt to find the Coast to Coast website by typing in GeorgeNoory.com. I highly doubt that was happening.

Just another example of George's inflated ego at work here.

The only other explanation for such a post, and it is highly unlikely is that George purposely wants to make the GeorgeNoory.com a known name, in the event he leaves Coast or is leaving soon, and wants people to just easily go to that URL after he is no longer on the show. The day he leaves C2C, he redirects GeorgeNoory.com to his own personal webpage.

Could this be what Art was referring to when he said 'George 'get's it''?

i've always thought Art meant that Noory "gets" how to please his PremRat network masters, compared to Art who was his own man.

Excellent points, and well said. Talk radio may get us up to speed on current political or cultural issues. But, as you pointed out, it will not educate us.

For education, try Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/, which has thousands of the world's classic pieces of literature available to listen to for free. Also, major universities (Princeton, Columbia, U of Virginia, U of NC, etc.) are beginning to offer free online courses, including some texts: http://www.ajc.com/news/news/opinion/online-courses-free-for-the-taking/nQXRJ/. A tremendous basic college-level education can be attained at virtually no monetary cost. It demands tremendous expense in will, time and intense concentration. But it can be done.

It could also be a slap in the face to Art saying, "Ha Ha ... we've taken your baby and taken a dump on it's head". Or maybe not. I hope Art says "Game on bitches!".

Amen to that. Back in the day when C2C was on WABC in NYC, Curtis Sliwa couldn't begin his morning show right after Art's and then Noory's without taking a pot shot at the "Looney Kazooney from parts unknown." You can even hear Art responding to it on one of the streams. Sliwa probably never listened to one show but he had to ridicule Art and the show because of the content, and the ridicule included the listeners. But this blowhard thought himself crucial to WABC and found out he wasn't when they let him go. He's now on some rinky dink station down the aisle while C2C is still on a major station, although not WABC. It's all entertainement, which Sliwa forgot, and when he became a problem, out he went.
