Are ghosts real?

What is the best proof of them?

I have seen ghosts before but do not believe in them. I believe they are tricks of the mind.

ziznak

I haven't seen anything that I could say is real proof.  There's definitely something more than just this plain of existence... now whether that's where demons and dead spirits exist I don't think there is any definitive scientific proof.

bearv

I have seen small monster ghosts, shadow people, and apparitions. But I still don't believe in any of that stuff. I consider it tricks of the mind.

i think the EVP recordings provided by brendan and barbara of the GIS are quite compelling.  they strike me as being totally honest people, and i myself have made audio recordings that are difficult to explain.

Hi, I'm relatively new to the forum. Used to post often when Art Bell had a forum. I listened to C2C since the early '90s. Great stuff !!!

Ghosts. Hmm ... I find myself thinking they are most often something we, the living, form in our own minds. Our emotions, underlying state of mind etc. can put us "in the mood" so to speak. Our minds are fully capable of providing us with what we want even if what we want really isn't there.

I've had dreams of events following my own death (pleasant) and have met my dead brother in dreams (died in 1978) - but have never seen a ghost or apparition in a conscious state (while awake).

As to the EVP experience ... I think recording devices can pick up all kinds of sounds and the mind can make it seem like a conversation has or is taking place. How many of those ghost TV programs present practically unintelligible blurbs of five or six sounds that the investigator will say was a clear answer or comment. Most of the conversations, at best, sound like someone talking with their mouth full of marbles or water. So I think most of it is a stretch.

someone needs to do a double blind study where they put researchers into a room to listen to recordings. a control group would listen to tapes made in new libraries and other boring spots. the other listens to tapes from "hot" spots. neither group knows what kind of recordings they are listening to

And they were not out for fame or fortune. Agreed on them.. And their audio clearly freaked out Art as much as us.

I saw a shadow rodent one time, but it might have simply been an angel.

I've thought of this every time I listen to the EVP shows (which I love).  Part of me thinks, "I'm surprised it hasn't been researched with control recordings and listeners.  It wouldn't be expensive... come on somebody!"  But, then, the larger part of me thinks, "well, I'm 99.999% sure none of this is real (no matter how much I enjoy pretending otherwise), so a study would just prove it false and strip even the simple mysterious fun out of it."

Such is real life.  Real life is lame.

EVP's are kinda freaky I must admit but if you believe them you'd have to believe that "backwards" speech dude art had on... It was on the fineartstream a few days back and had me laughing my butt off.  He takes snipets of people talking and plays them backwards at different speeds.  From this gibberish he can discern english phrases that are supposedly what the speaker means to say.  funny stuff but total Kookery

i don't think so.  in the case of reverse speech... you're looking for random segments of voice that make sense and actually seem to say something.  it's sort of like giving typewriters to a million monkeys and waiting for one of them to type war and peace.  in the case of EVP, there are voices that shouldn't even be there.  forget what they're saying.

bluth co.

If EVPs freak you out, you're legitimizing them in some way.

ziznak

When you turn on technology that's made to record something like lets say... hmmm.. voices... turn it on and tell it to record then give it nothing to record it's going to find something.  Anomalies... most of em... the rest are probly a million ghost monkeys in another dimension with vocal chords and microphones.

Fly By Night

I laugh when I think of this topic. Ghost are very real. EVP's are as well. Go to where areas are said to be haunted.   I have audio, video and still pictures from Gettysburg to the Whaley House that are unexplainable. For some reason some people hate to think ghosts exist.  All I can say is find a place near you reported to be very haunted, and spend two nights there with an open mind

Zircon

If they are "unexplainable" then how can you then determine they are actually ghosts? I personally don't hope that ghosts don't exist but if they do there are people I've known - and think about often - and have had no results - even when asking for signs (in dreams if necessary).

You will most often find, or think you've found, what you're looking for. People who believe in ghosts and any number of paranormal topics have already talked themselves into a positive experience. Like this EVP stuff. Gibberish is all I hear when C2C guests play recordings.

When you see a somewhat transparent form of a human with a face that matches a face of someone who lived 100 years ago I call it a ghost. Plus, I know a few people who never believed in ghosts that did have relatives visit them shortly after they passed. They occurred during the day, were brief, but long enough with enough conversation to know it was not a hallucination. I agree most EVP's are noise that people matrix into words, but I have also heard very good EVP's. In the end people who don't believe in ghosts will always have an excuse. Either the picture is too good so it must be fake, or it's too blurry so it must be lighting, or furniture being moved around on it's own must have been an earthquake on and on. Like I said before, find a place known to be haunted near you and spend time there.

Excellent idea. Can you bounce this off of Noory?

ziznak

totally gay experiment im sorry... yer still gonna get noise from a mic that you turned on.... its a mic... ya know... its there to pick up human vocals... that's its job.... does anybody remember mr microphone? if you turn on any recording equipment and then strain out the noise that isnt there youre going to get some leftover  stuff... musicians call it "fucking feedback man." I would totally be down with ghosts if I really thought I had run into one.

Hey, its a good "filler" show for say a Wednesday night when nothing else is going on. Speaking of bullshit type shows - did you listen to any part of that "demon" show last night. This guest is a "world expert"? I think even the term "lame" is too generous. The guy is a clown in my opinion.

I have seen a lot of dead bodies. I have seen a hand full of people die. I have never seen a ghost. I do not think there is any proof. But I don't know. Just seems to me that if there were any substantial proof it would be big time news.

What if we are not supposed to know?  Maybe life is a test.  Maybe we need to learn all aspects of being human?  If we knew there was an afterlife for sure, it would be easy for people to just say 'Hey, I don't like this one so I'll just cash it all in and start again'.
I don't know, I'm still trying to figure it all out.

Concerning EVPs, I wonder if some could be glitches in time where one is actually speaking to someone in the past (or even future)?  If past, present and future is sort of dimensionally occupying the same space?  Or something.
Some EVPs though, are the ghosts of the adults in Charlie Brown toons, that is why it is difficult to understand them.

Ghosts are not real. People who see ghosts have mental problems.

Okay, that seemed better in my head.....

I did see a ghost.  I probably do have mental problems.   :P   ;)   ;D
Nonetheless, I know what I saw as a child.  It was real.  Told my story in the Supernatural Experiences thread.  I've tried to rationalize it.  It's still a mystery.  I appreciate the experience to be honest.  Even though it can't be explained.

Elflord

Ghosts are NOT real But George Noory still sucks as a human.

You don't get to tromp on someone's intrinsic beliefs around here

Wait, forgot who I was talking to...

El Flord, I believe in ghosts, I've seen them and talked to them. Shay shared an experience that he had involving ghosts.

Both Shay and I may be crazy, but we have a right to what we believe, especially on CoastGab.

Elflord

CH ewmouse If you really belive in ghosts then you belive that George Noory is a million times better as host of coast to coast am. I dont belive in ghosts and george noory sucks.

It's tough to beat that type of logic. And this post spares you from ever being executed...even in Arkansas.

For people who belive in ghost and belive that george noory is way better then art bell have a(or more) mental problem(s). I'm just giving you the truth and sometimes the truth hurts.
