I DID feel let down Gravity.  I was expecting the same old Art Bell, on top of the worlds latest developments in the news, no matter what the topic was. It could be anything from a big foot siting, to candidates in an election, to stem cell research, to ghost stories on Halloween, and Santa Clause and his raindeer on Christmas.  The Art Bell I got on the DMDN, well, I just don't recognize him, VERY sad to say.

I somewhat agree.  Art certainly doesn't have that same sense of excitement, keenness and "finger on the pulse" of what's going down in the world as he did in 1997, or even 2002.  Seeing as the MITD shows were 13 years later, and he's now 70, is, I suppose, the reason why.  We got an older, less driven Art Bell who wasn't doing the necessary daily research it requires to stay on top of what's going down in the world.  Maybe he just doesn't have the energy to.  If we as listeners were going to be satisfied with the older, more sedate Art Bell, who spent 45 seconds on ISIS, or other top news stories, instead of 5 minutes (as he would have in the past), we would needed to have to come to terms with that.

I think Art coming back to BellGab is about sub money more than anything.

Using Vera's numbers they had 11k subscribers at their peak. With all these shenanigans they probably lost half those numbers and now Heather is somewhere in the 5-6k range living off Art's bait and switch with people not conscious of the drama. Yet she's going to drop several hundred if not upwards of a thousand each month as people get fed up and realize it won't get better. Or they change credit cards or don't want to keep getting charged each month for some terrible show they don't listen to. Also she won't get any new subs because who the fuck would pay for this show? They have no advertising in the outside world and all the internet traffic is about how much it sucks.

So given that math, it seems clear they'll be out of business by May.

I think this is why Art came back because this place represents hundreds of subscriptions and the biggest mass collection of subs. Also this place is generating virtually all the web traffic aside from Twitter. Since the hive is angry it resulted in hundreds of cancellations just from here as well as thousands of posts talking about how shitty the show is.

The thing is Art eventually has to throw Heather under the bus and make her the fall guy like he did with Noory, if for nothing else self-preservation. As we've seen with the Noory Virus, Heather is going to completely kill his fan base and eventually no one is going to be able straight face the sheer ineptitude and hypocrisy of this whole thing

I also look at it this way,...that luck of  quantity and quality of advertisers
on Heather's show is a very accurate barometer that show is not very popular not to hot in all 25 time zones , haha ,
if it was so hot as Art is claiming we would be hearing lot's more adds on the show,...simple logic !!

It also explains Heather's erratic behavior. It must not pleasant to watch a number falling every day and when it gets a certain point, it means you're back on disability in section eight housing with no one answering your messages. It's reminiscent of every submarine movie where the damaged sub is approaching it's crash depth.

The numbers analysis in your previous post is sound and I like the diving sub metaphor for losing subs every month, but something's missing. In this scenario, somebody would be desperately trying to save the subs and the submarine. You can certainly argue that Art's latest appearance was an attempt to do just that. But it was a very limited, very modest attempt. And without this missing element, the scenario doesn't quite hold water (continuing the metaphor).

I say this because Art's entire argument to us was that Heather is worthy and her critics not only don't appreciate her but are being unfair in their judgement of her and the show. Instead of acknowledging the problems and the need for changes, he left it at a vague "She needs to make the show her own," whatever that means. None of those involved really have a clue on how to do this, I think. The proposed solution was for all of us critics to have a heart or just think different (and hopefully, subscribe).

So the forward torpedo room is flooding, they're rapidly losing depth, and the captain and crew are standing around expounding on how the whole thing isn't fair. Nobody's running around wrenching on anything. That's unusual for a dying radio or TV show. Try thinking of one that didn't make very audible or visual changes in an attempt to stave off disaster.

Now, one could just explain the lack of action by saying there's confusion and nobody knows what to do. That works to a point. But eventually, panic sets in and you start to see evidence of the panic. And I think we haven't gotten to that point yet, but we probably will.

Does the captain (whoever that is) finally blow his last bit of air attempting to surface, does the exec forcibly take over command and start giving orders, does the sub implode before anyone actually makes a move? Stay tuned. It's a human drama as much as a disaster movie.
