The idea that people on a forum named after Art who've listened to him for years might lend him the same uncritical support they might a friend is so banal that it hardly deserves comment, let alone the exaggerated poses of supercilious horror some of you guys are affecting.

He isn't your friend. It's a commercial exchange - the man does a radio show and you, in turn, support him with your money. That's where it ought to stop. That doesn't mean that we have any special insight into the man as a human being, or his veracity. The sort of support you are describing sounds like infantilism to me.

Where one falls out in the debate over Art's stalker is a measure of cynicism, not intelligence, and I'm not at all sure your pose is a flattering one.

People are welcome to believe things without evidence, and we call it religion. What you are describing is close to a religious belief because it can't be disproved. You are welcome to believe it, just don't plume yourself that you are better than anyone else.

Since I am less cynical, I believe that those of you who know how truly dark the world is are just trying to initiate the rest of us gently, as evidenced by the soothing language you all employ.

I'd rather be cynical than be caught attempting that limp bit of irony. People do odd things all the time. It doesn't made them bad or mad, it makes them human and fallible. I can imagine Art doing something silly, regretting it, but having to continue because he is too far in to extricate himself. Or not. We just don't know.
