my take on it is..people need to relax on both sides..the vitriol side and the white knights side...there is some over the top on both..the constant trying to find out who heather is..looks like..etc etc..and the constant Art and Heather shows are getting better and better shtick...through criticism, though some over the top harsh, one gets better...no one is getting better at this point if no one is around to read

At first it started as a few regulars claiming their right to criticize Art, without themselves being challenged on that criticism. Now, if there are any positive posts of support for Art and Heather, there are pages and pages of negative retorts. I think the darkness that now pervades this thread is a combination of anger over Art's departure, and just inherent personal vitriol to others in general...

Okay, I buy that.  A little.  My positive posts don't seem to have drawn any fire fm the subhumans.  Any way, fuck 'em, they are subhumans.

If being treated fairly means shitting an equal amount on everything, we need a very different strategy. Not all things are equal. Does Art Bell deserve a higher standard? not in the everyday, but in a forum thread about him I am thinking a definite maybe. If the thread was Art Bell sucks then all bets are off. And no matter what anyone says the level of discourse spiraling downward was started by a slur (accurate or not) for the purpose of disrupting the discourse at the moment.

To be fair this is simply the "Art Bell" thread not the "Art Bell Sucks", "Art Bell Rocks", or "Nuthuggers Unite" thread. Just simply the Art Bell thread. Do I agree with all of it? No. However if I let anonymous text on a screen upset me, and quit my passions in life, and quit the internet... I could have saved many thousands of dollars, and maybe been moar productive overall. 

Dude, itz the internet don't take it so seriously. Don't take anonymous comments so seriously. Just like I don't take offers of free candy from strangers seriously.

I have been asking myself about that. What is wrong with a place where pleasantries are common? Why does every conversation need to be adversarial or worse, derogatory? Is it really that difficult to say something positive? Does anyone (including myself) believe derision is the best method for change? The fans aren't exactly shy about attacking those who don't share their opinions though, are they? The trouble is, they don't do it in a very entertaining way. It would be fun if they were amusing or informative in their defence of Art, but they turn tortoise and call anyone who isn't on the team a troll and sulk in the corner. That's the big problem for me - this empty-headed positivity is painfully boring. It is also insincere, if they refuse to acknowledge that there is anything about their hero worthy of censure. I would rather hear negative comments from someone whose opinion I respect, than a litany of babble from someone who wants to suck up to me

Yeah, and when a person goes off the deep end and shows up with a gun, after being mobbed they are seen as the sole monster. And the narrative is spun as, Just another nut with a gun, taking it out on innocent lives.
