If I were wealthy...I would have a bubble machine in my foyer.  I would like my guests to be tickled by bubbles.  I mean that.

While we all sip champagne?  Sounds fun, Shay.

You must really mean it when you say "cheers."  :)

Shame about the downfall of Hoagie. Hubris.

Looks like his 19.5 minutes of fame are up.
Hubris? Golden Fleece? Flying too close to the Sun? References boogle the mind but I gotta get back to watching modern, organized gladiator combat (note NFL and commentators dont mention that kind of allusions post-lawyer concussion era?)

I would love that.  I am a huge fan of Lawrence Welk, and I am not even kidding.  Plus, being from Pittsburgh, I would love to hear the Beer Barrell Polka.

:)
If i didn't like you i would tell you to get a rope and look for a tree with a solid branch.
Play Led Zeppelin Kashmir and come back to reality.
Make sure its loud.

I disagree, you ever see some of those girl dancers on the old Welk show? Them gams? Corn-fed and still in shape and just looking to see someone to take them away and show them the bright lights and real champagne champale? Forget the tramps and groupies at some Zeppelin show. Them ripe pickings. And who cannot like accordions or polka in general? Seriously. Weird Al? Hilarious (his dad was a famous accordionist.) And the Americanization version that lead our girls to dress in drindls and drink too much at local "Octoberfests?" Come on now..

I stopped giving any donations when my local PBS stopped rebroadcasts of the Welk show, lowered when the  MacNeil/Lehrer Report changed, and even now, likely due some misguided donations for local music shows when they call I bitch about that hack Gwen Ifill and her crap, and state it and don't even anything and say "take me off the list." If she had ANY credibility as a journalist, or person, we shouldn't have seen her all through this Obama administration.
-crap, sorry, Art, thought this was in politics---> send it there, MV. And sorry Art, or all, if I offended.

What ever happened to "Sing along with Mitch"?

Before cgi how did they get that bouncing ball on the screen?

TIL:  There was not a little bouncing ball, and I am one of a number of people that insist there was.

I fear it was the Friday Hoagie show, first the sundresses and lactating ..
Now Lawrence Welk and Polka?
It may be to late, we may have lost our friend Shay.

Oddly i liked Mitch, it was a great concept, we as a family sang along every show.
It was good family time..it really was.
Wouldn't go over in today's world, times have changed..families are not close anymore.

Next week I wouldn't be surprised if we got the history of Lawrence Welk, or Polka music.
This man is fuked in the head, he just cant redeem himself at this point.

You know, I might just start calling in those first 15 minutes that I listen to his show.  Ask him if he knew Lawrence, or Larry as we called him down at the VFW.  Ask what his favorite polka is.

I'm a bit late to the party, and with full knowledge that Ciardelo might blame me for derailing Art's thread, I have to agree with Yorkshire Pud and some others: Those of us who have been watching how RCH acts during interviews, giving talks, on his website, on Facebook, and elsewhere over the past few decades were generally not surprised that this has happened.  I think frankly, many of us are surprised that it took this long.  I, personally, expected it to collapse within 2 months.

The ego that he has would simply not allow the show to live up to what its potential could be, could not tolerate any dissension from critics without ranting about them, nor could it not come up with excuses that still fit within his "model" when called out for something.

What has happened, I think, has been fascinating to watch.  And I don't just mean that I was as surprised as many others that RCH could really do an entertaining and interesting interview when he switched over from crazy mode.  What I'm talking about instead is the evolution of people who have been involved with helping him and trying to guide him, going from "This could be great, let's give him a chance," to "OMFG WTF is he doing?!"  (paraphrased, of course)

People genuinely wanted to support and help him (Art, Ross, I assume Keith) and did so very well.  People here - even some of his major critics (including myself, though I'm not sure how "major" I am relative to others) - were amazed at some of the engaging shows.  But, the ego and the crazy was there, lurking, and I think everyone at least here (including Art, Ross) realize now who RCH really is.

For me, it was always about the science and his promotion of pseudoscience, pseudoinvestigation, horrible warping of reality and facts (and outright lying) to fit things into his "models," and of course the constant appeal to his "dear friends" as if that lent credibility.

For others, it was good vs bad radio, and the interpersonal (behind-the-scenes) interactions, and what never ever to do as a radio host, which he broke last week: Lying (or at best, misleading) your audience, and then blaming them and saying you don't want listeners.

While I honestly never wish ill on individuals, I do hope that this is one of the mounting straws that will eventually remove Richard from being a radio show host, removing his outlet from which he can further spread his nonsense.

If you go to Germany/Austria they still have "Welk" like shows on tv. Probably not now, the singers being raped, the audience likely torn from their homes, to make place for "refugees." But for many decades it was funny to see. Even after our Welk went off air they still had this these types of shows. I was fine with it. Who cares? What is wrong with wholesome looking people singing and dancing?
(ps: MV, Art, since they brought it up)-- send to politics. But there is a place for polka, folk music, and polite society.

I think an exorcism is more in order. Or a possession, depending on how you look at it. We may need something stronger to get him back on kilter. Perhaps a full listen of Led Zeppelin 1.

I'll assume you don't "believe" that angels are real.... Where is your proof?  Just saying...
I can "believe" Art is an honorable man, until I have hard facts to prove he isn't.
After all these years, I don't see any evidence, that he isn't.

The opposite is fact.. Art has spent a lot of time and resources to defend his honor!

Viva Art Bell

Ahh the old 'prove a negative' game. I could resort to a simple sigh but instead I'll ask you to prove the positive scenario: Show me proof of angels.

Now Shay has the Lawrence Welk avatar..oddly it fits him as well as Mr. Rodgers.
It also gave me a huge smile ;D

Wow, I guess I'm up to date on the RCH brouhaha now.  I have nothing to add as I never listened to his show once.  In fact, after hearing him once years ago as Art's guest on C2C, I carefully avoided ever listening to him again.  However I'm sorry to hear that Art invested so much of his time and energy on someone so undeserving.  :(

Meanwhile....

Hot dog!  I can't wait to hear Art's commentary later tonight on the US West Coast missile test/UFO this weekend.  The Internet (especially Reddit) is on fire with conspiracy theories!  It seems as if people are desperate for; an extra-terrestrial visitation, an all-out nuclear war, or at least confirmation and an admission from our government that they've "been lying all along".

I think Art's show is back at a perfect time in our ev/devolution.  The human collective seems anxious, restless, and ready to take a ride!  Time to blitz social media again?

I've suggested that one before too.  Another possibility, "Night Flight".  And I know it's overplayed, but "Ramble On" is so great for late nite radio.
