I constantly walk through a minefield of words in my current profession and understand how powerful words can be. But the big problem with the word police debate is that people resent being told what they can or cannot say. The word police thing only exacerbates the very problem the activists believe they are solving. By making fag off-limits it immediately taints the gay rights cause with baggage by pissing people off and strengthening their prejudices in the same way that the suppression of dirty words in the past has led to a modern culture where one of the most commonly used words in every day vernacular is the word fuck. Word suppression does not work, it backfires.

The proper way to deal with it is to let people say whatever the hell they like and focus on condemning actions. The goal of the gay rights activists will be achieved far faster that way.

Count me as one who WOULD stick up for people.  I've been assaulted by street gangs 3 times already (try fighting 13 18 year olds at once), because I stood up for what is right.  I'm not afraid to die for worthy causes and innocents.

Yes, words are words, but the reality is that often they are used right alongside violence and threats, and expecting a 14 year old kid to accept that sticks and stones and such is irrational.  Kids commit suicide over bullying, and it's not because they are limp wristed wimps, it's because their brains are under control from their amygdla and not their still developing frontal lobe.  It's the same thing as calling a person with learning disabilities a retard, it goes right for the jugular implying that the person doesn't belong and should be ashamed of something in how God made them.

Once again, my own poor son was depressed and ashamed and deathly afraid until I had a talk with him and reached deep inside and for the first time he overcame the stigma and realized that his dad wouldn't call him names.  He's very brave in my book.  It's about shaming, calling people queers or faggots shames those that ARE gay.

And there's a lot of bullying that does go on in this site as it is.  There are fellow liberals and gay people on this site that remain silent rather than get abused.  But me, I can take the abuse and will stick up for them, just like I did when I was a kid, and it doesn't matter that I'm swimming against the current, because every inch further I get, the better for those that cannot swim.

And while we are at it, the term "butt hurt", you know where that comes from, right?  It's more gay hate drivel. 

It's clear that the majority here are to the right of issues and that they will continue to rub it in with the least provocation until they've bullied people into silence, but remember this:  I used to BE a conservative right wing myself (from about the age of 20 until the age of 48) and I experienced an epiphany where I made a paradigm shift. 

Now I know I'm a lousy lawyer, I'm not good with word games, I'm more of a direct person.  I call them as I see them and have no blinding him with science bullcrap.  There's a lot of smartasses here that feel pretty good about their ability to make pithy statements, but there's more to a man than word play and most of it is nonsense.

That's really something I hope Art tackles on his show. Technology is developing exponentially faster as time goes on and few seem to realize it. Ray Kurzweil and others have been talking about this for years, but what they haven't been addressing is the massive social upheaval that's going to come from imminent advances in technology. The human race sits on the edge of automating ourselves into 90% unemployment rates while governments come up with creative ways to hide the numbers. That's not good. In fact it's how the guillotines come out.
