I did a clean installation of the forum software. Hopefully everything is working OK. There are probably a couple broken things here or there, but that'll get worked out. After almost eight years and many modifications of the forum's code, it was time to make everything clean and lean. Goddamn thing should run better than ever.

It's a minor thing but I think your favicon has been abducted.

Indeed.

I think it's a beautiful clean site, and it's well-curated. Total suck-up, I know, but it's the truth.

Thank you. I've tried to eliminate as much forum clutter as possible, like signatures, post counts, ranks... all that typical crap.

You have all PM's blocked or am I one of the lucky ones? LOL

I was trying to send you something to see if it was okay to post.

Yeah, I've got PMs blocked. If it's able to be viewed from an office cubicle, you can probably post it.

It has to do with legally recording radio with a scheduler. It feels wrong so I'll keep it to myself. I personally will be paying the $5 anyway and only keeping the music version for my personal use. I'm anti-piracy.

Post it. I'll probably be recording Art's live stream even though I'll pay, because I want the show with the music. I'm sure many others will do the same.

Art-

I did some deep digging tonight and ran across this article concerning AAC, further research indicates that AAC+ or AAC v2 has been proven to perform better at lower bit rates than MP3 without sacrificing the upper frequencies like it use to.

Will there be an on demand stream with music?

That's what I want to know.

Coast provides an on demand stream of past shows to subscribers with the music intact. You can also download the same shows to keep without the music.

I hope Art can do this too.

Audacity 1.3 and up has a Timer Record feature under the Transport menu. You can set it to record on a schedule while you're away at work. I was thinking about the people with low data plans. Please pay Art the $5 if any of you use this.... That is if you can afford it.

There is a lot of suck here, but most it is Dave Noorie's fault.

I knew that GNS2K was going to be a problem.

MV/Liberace!

Rather than monkey with aac+ I'd probably just stream at 32Kbps mono mp3 because that's effectively the same quality as 64Kbps stereo mp3 which is plenty for human voice. Remember... we first heard Art on AM radio and the quality of that was just fine. I'd be totally satisfied with 32Kbps mono mp3.

At this point I'd be satisfied with a tin can and some string.

Funny that you put it that way, because I was going to mention earlier that 32kbps mp3 is effectively AM radio quality according to audiophiles around the world.  (which is perfectly fine for talk radio)  Personally I don't really care either way, just trying to help Art answer his question on the subject.

We'll that's true too.

As is this.

Really though, the way I organize my bookmarks bar in Chrome is to delete the site name, leaving just the icon. So it's just a string of icons the way you might pin/lock programs to a taskbar/launcher. Defaults/placeholders are a terrible eyesore. And this little white question mark? We've got a beef.

Yeah, I remember nights where I'd be picking up his show on my crappy am radio from some station in Ohio and listening through the crackle all the way in my bed in Florida. So, Art go with whatever will save you money and bandwidth at first and let the show grow and increase quality later on if need be.

At the risk of repeating myself ... if I wanted to listen to music -- I'd load up some of my FLAC files from my digital library of truly CLASSIC rock archives and crank up my surround sound system. And - those audio files can be found most anywhere (allegedly) for FREE (hypothetically) if one expends a tiny bit of effort (figuratively) searching and is lukewarm, technically literate.  Sure it helps Art set his *mood* but I don't listen for mood music .. I listen for (not that he is my master -- but he is THE master of talk) ....

Yep - the green alien is now merely a questionable icon... hmmm... I bet Davebots did it.  8)

I'll try and remember to fix the favicon tomorrow. Good night, all.

Agree. 32K mono would be more than adequate I think. Then make the big upgrade in 2016 if indicated?

I also agree on the tin can and string.

And while you're at it please fix the avatar "feature" too ... just my luck I try to change avatar for the first time in a couple years and it's broken since the site's hamster swap (or was it a gerbil).   ???
