A few thoughts:

1. Info from After Dark After Show:  Live Streaming Broadcasts will be available for download later, without music, because of high costs.
Consider change; cancel plans to download, the pirates will download and make available your shows for you.

2. Info from After Dark After Show:  Live Streaming shows will have music and be in stereo.
Consider Change; Subscriber's get Live Streams Stereo WITH MUSIC and at high bit rate.
Non subscribers to live stream, receive low bit rate, no stereo, NO MUSIC and more commercials while bumper plays.

Advantages:

Your loyal fans that subscribe will get value added for Live Stream, Stereo show and Stereo music at high bit rate. Full Art Bell Experience!

Save cost of downloads. Pirates will do downloads for you. Even if you offered downloads without music, the pirates would likely download from Live Stream with music as source. Subscriber's that missed shows would rather stream a Pirates download with music, than your non music download. Non Subscribers will hear these shows with music and may be more willing to become subscribers to get the FULL LIVE ART BELL EXPERIANCE

Loyal Fans that want to listen live, will gladly pay for Stereo music and high bit rate. Occasional Fans unfortunately are outside of the revenue cash flow, except for commercials, they will listen to low bit rate, no music and  are hammered with commercials while bumper plays to subscribers.
Cost savings, no music costs to non subscribers  and a chance of them turning into subscribers.

I know it's doesn't satisfy your goal, 'all should get music', but that may be to expensive, and again non subscribers to live stream without music will be encouraged to become subscribers.

And I know from the Show After, more of about music costs. And I know that you'll want free music for all, to drive listener base, which translates to a larger calling base. I get it, loud and clear

To quote the Rolling Stones "You can't always get what you want but if try real hard, you find you get what you need"

And I know there is more than one way to 'shave'(sic) a cat, And this cat and others are  loyal fans that want you back!
And I know that if music costs are to high, because of non subscribers listening free, you may not be back.

So, my post above, is about lowering costs so the Loyals get you back.... Of course this doesn't meet your goals... But it satisfies the Loyals that will subscribe and we "get what we need"

Art, will we be able to stream the stereo shows with bumper music at a later time? That's what CtoC does and maybe your partners should look into this. I will subscribe to the podcast downloads to support the show but it would be nice to stream the older shows (with bumper music) at a later time.

I will record the shows LIVE onto a DVD recorder but streaming the shows (with bumper music) at a later time would be a nice option.

for Art Bell i wont raise the jolly roger. he has so many utterly fantastic shows in the past, and many more that seem to just be gone to the sands of time. i would pay to be able to download the podcasts.
i wish i had a warp drive starship so i can get past the noory 10 light year radius of suckage. just to listen to those lost shows.

Well we are trying to pick a speed that will sound good but also try and bear in mind that not everybody has fast Internet yet. I will send it out at 128 but we are still thinking about the main stream, lots to consider, a Podcast minus the music does not really gain much from 128.

The main idea is a good LIVE Stereo stream for all, then everything else. We will carry some commercial content (Not to much) to pay for all this and depend on Podcast for the rest.

All of this would not be possible without our Partner. As you have heard the music cost is insane, so we need a Partner to wrap us into a existing agreement. Nothing is easy.

Living on the east coast, I'll most likely listen to the free show until I return to work after the summer vacation which is when I would naturally switch over to the podcast subscription which I will also love, as I can listen while commuting. Both have their advantages, the free show being the total experience, the podcast the flexibility. So whatever it takes, Art, you have a lot of people who want to see this work.
