Spooky Matter

Too much to read and I missed Spooky Matter because I had unexpected company.  What did Art say he's all in on?  I'm seeing bits of comments about free streaming but what does it mean and how can he be allowed to stream the shows free if that's what it means, if he works with Sirius?

Spooky Matter

Quote from: Morgus on November 01, 2013, 12:50:21 AM
Art made his announcement at the end of the Spooky Matter Halloween show last night.
He is working with Sirius to try to allow him to stream his show live for FREE from artbell.com since Sirius has been having lots of reported problems with the internet streaming of Art's show due to very heavy load.
Art mentioned on the air that his show is already "pirated" a lot on the internet with free live streams and recordings appearing the next morning on youtube.
So his plan is to get Sirius to allow him to provide a FREE internet stream of the live show only, no archives or replays that would be on Sirius only.
I hope Art is successful in getting a FREE live internet stream available, since there are many Art Bell fans who are outside of the USA+Canada and can't subscribe to Sirius even if they wanted to pay for it.
Thank you! Morgus!  I've got it.  Wow, that is crazy but I like it!

People have been experiencing drops of the Sirius stream from day one. Some more than others. Art has repeatedly said that he's working with Sirius to get the problems solved. But here we are, six weeks later, and the Sirius stream still drops. Obviously, Sirius has not done what's necessary to resolve the technical issues.

Maybe Tuesday (10/29) night's weird outage was the last straw for Art (I'm sure he was not happy about being completely off the air for 8~9 minutes). So he comes up with the free-stream solution and presents it to Sirius.

Wednesday (10/30) night Art said:
"After tomorrow night's show, I'm gonna have an announcement of some significance, before the end of the program. And, in poker parlance, I will simply say, We're all in."

Thursday (10/31) night Art made his announcement:

"As many of you may know, because you've been helping us with it, SiriusXM, which is really a great satellite company mainly delivering, of course, to vehicles -- you know, cars and trucks and so forth -- has been having quite a bit of trouble with their streaming partner. In fact, to the degree that it makes listening difficult. Many thousands of my listeners came on board when it began, but they've fallen off because of that reason -- 1001 error and many others. It's kind of a systemic problem. We do have a monstrous vehicle audience, of course. However, for a caller-driven show like this one, speaking only to people on cell phones and moving vehicles is somewhat difficult.

The show also is being pirated. Oh, you have no idea. We are all over the net right now. From YouTube -- you'll see my show the next day -- to a server in England, for example, that's streaming the show live. All this going on all this time, all this pirating. And because of all this, I have asked SiriusXM to alter their normal method of doing business, and allow free streaming for everybody, and I'll say that again, free streaming for everybody from ArtBell.com. The live show only, of course. All value-added stuff like OnDemand, old shows, and so forth, will remain with SiriusXM.

Now, they say they may have an answer for this by Monday. It's my position that nobody in the world is going to ever cancel a radio in their car or their truck simply because we stream a four-hour live stream for four days. Now, that may not be their position, of course. But, if we get the opportunity to do the streaming -- and they are considering it -- we will kick some serious butt, no pun intended. If not, we may not have a viable situation going forward. But, I'm looking forward -- knocking on wood (I do have wood here) -- that Monday will see, hopefully, a yes.  And that's the situation we're in. Sorry to sort of drop this on you at the last moment, but it is an interesting situation in which long-time listeners have had a very difficult time with all this error stuff. And we do have a situation where we can stream very effectively, in fact, to virtually everybody. It represents a kind of a new business model. One that we're hoping they'll accept, or at least give a try to. And there you have it. That's the announcement that I wanted to make, and that's the current situation.

And for those that have helped with the streaming problem, I wanna thank you. Because, you know, we've asked for people to identify the streaming error, and what kind of system you have, what kind of computer, and all the rest of it. So we pretty well nailed down the fact that is a continuing problem, and this would be a wonderful solution. Let me repeat that what we're hoping for is free streaming for everybody. It's pretty out-there hope, but in fact, we may do it. So, there you have it."

I hope I got it right. :)

Let's see what Monday night brings.

I think he will be adding a show on Fridays and maybe another host for weekends.
A random though about the "we" are all in comment, "we" might mean that Ayrin, his wife, might start playing some part in the behind the scenes aspect of the show, similar to what Ramona did. Maybe she will help with guest bookings or skype call screener, or some other form of show prep or logistics. I know it's probably a stretch, but Ayrin poped into my head when I thought about  the "We" this  morning.

Hmmm... I doubt Ayrin will be doing such things for the show. She has precious Asia to take care of.

I think that what Art meant by "We" is Art and we, the listeners.
At least, I'd like to think that Art thinks of us, his loyal listeners, as his team.

We'll soon find out.

Art is all riled up on tonight's SIT. He is ready to nuke Lebanon and Pakistan.

Yep. Not surprising, because I remember that he was advocating pretty much the same thing right after 9/11.

Loving the show tonight (from 5-21-2002). I like the past lives topic, and Bryan Jameison is a great guest. Well, actually, was. Apparently he passed away just a few months after this show.

New face on Mars....?

Oh I can definitely see that one :)  :P

Some of the puds on FB via Art's site (I loathe FB with all my heart) are just so condescending. Who do people think they are with the my streaming is fine and in a nutshell who does Art think he is crap, should know that Sirius is going to have the same amount of listeners they did before Art ever jumped in if he were to leave tomorrow or start that free stream.  Every body has a damn opinion and think they are so right.

I had wished he said he was adding at least Friday and going back to the AM/FM waves!

Looks like Graham Hancock is the guest for tomorrow night

Snap, crackle, & pop getting us through the rest of the week.  Sweet.  I love rice krispie treats while listening to Dark Matter.  Art is so thoughtful.

Art just posted on his facebook page that Dark Matter is no more!

His post :

Sometimes when you are "all in" you win, sometimes lose. By mutual agreement Dark Matter will no longer air as of tonight.
