Oh man.  It's not going to be the same without The Chase.  I'm sure Art will choose something that will have that same feel to it after awhile. 

I personally wouldn't mind if he said screw it and used The Chase anyway.  It's not like I'll be listening to George's show too, and be confused.

I thoroughly agree with you.  But I think Art wants a totally clean cut from c2c.  Also I think he trusts his loyal fan base enough to enjoy his choice of intro. music as much as we enjoyed "The Chase."  Just my opinion.

"The Chase" was just dead-on perfect for building us up to "Wanna Take a Ride?"  I'm sure Art will come-up with something just as good, if not better.  I need to have my mind purged of anything remotely related to Dave Noory, anyway.  I want to forget that dysfunctional relationship.

I thought this was odd. I'm listening to Clyde Lewis and he has David John Oats on and he played the Art Bell reverse from Sept. 11. I think that is the one where Art banned Oates.

I sure hope that some of us are going to be able to record Art's first show on XM. Even if a few people record and just keep it for personal records. That way years from now we will still have it and be able to post it up for everyone to hear. It will be a shame if we don't get a record of this important event on the 16th. Let's get ready to roll the tape!

I hope art sounds like the art of the 90's, not the art of the late 2000's. There was a massive change in just how he sounded in those years, what ever mic he was useing( while in the phillipines) sounded less " deep and booming" than the one he had in the past.

It makes a difference in how the show feels, IMO.

To me how Art sounds will not really matter to me. However the less "deep and booming" you are talking about could indeed be from a different mic. However I would suspect it had to do with the audio link he was using between the phillipines and here. I do know that Art and the show will sound significantly different on XM. Remember you are accustomed to listening to him on AM radio in mono. XM will be entirely different. It will be a digital signal in stereo. It will be a lot cleaner. I personally love the sound of AM. So it may take a bit of getting used to. Also long gone will be the nights of driving somewhere in the middle of nowhere or in the mountains listening to a distant skip AM station. Everything is going to be HIFI now.

Yep. ISDN, which he used in the Philippines, has a tinny metal sound. It's convenient but definitely has a lower quality.

I expect him to sound amazing. I imagine he is doing tons of tests now on the new setup to make sure it all sounds good and runs to his liking.

Last I heard he is looking into it. He thinks its the right number. I imagine if the number changes or is taken off the site then there was something up but for now, it seems it's correct.

I remember before moving to NC, that was in "94, there was a story on cnn stating AOL they had 100,000 members, I joined that day. I had been with Compuserve... perhaps I remember wrong, don't think so.

In 1994, I'd bet that number was right, or at least close enough. Windows 95 was what brought the masses online. I think a lot of subscriber numbers get fairly dubious though. I know with Compuslave we were told we had over a million subscribers. Technically it was true, but I think a good 2/3's or so were subscribers to various professional networks, services, or were some kind of business based account that just were using the dial up and not actually participating in Compuserve.

Back when Howard Stern was about to begin at Sirius he did a test show that was on the air for a little over an hour.  He tested the levels, checked all the mics in the studio and even took a call or two.  There was 2 or 3 weeks of time between leaving terrestrial radio and getting to Sirius so it was really awesome to hear the show even if it was an quarter length.  Howard yakked it up with Artie, Fred, Gary and Robin for over an hour and it was a surprise because no one knew it was to happen.

I wonder if there will be a test show like that for Art.

Well that's interesting what your saying about your experience with Stern doing a live show for testing. Although I think they have other ways of testing rather than going over the air for one and all to hear. Again this brings me back to what I said the other day. I hope some of us will have tape rolling for Art's first show on XM. And if a scenario similar to what you are describing with Stern occurred, now that would be really cool to have a recording of too. Certainly an interesting possibility you bring up.

Good idea! So reliable. Even when the big solar flare hits your tape will still survive lol. Tape is so cool to me in the respect that it is still analog. However Art's show will be coming down to us in digital. So I guess it's kinda pointless keeping it analog. For reliability purposes though. I'm all for it!

Just FYI, there are a couple of "Family-Friendly" options which don't include a few uncensored channels, and 104 is one of them. So you could have the premiere package with the family-friendly option.

Dear God, let's not go there, because I just signed up for Sirius yesterday. I couldn't take it anymore, I am excited, and I want to be able to listen to replay and hopefully an archive. Long live Art! (Besides somewhere, deep inside of me, I chose to believe that somehow, that is sticking it to Snoory, a girl can dream.)

I simply did what many other posters suggested, I found room in my budget. I cancelled my Hulu, downgraded my netflix, and there was the 15 bucks I needed for internet. They give you a month free anyway:)

So with that, I can't wait to hear him!

Question for the geeks -- what bit rate is the sirius internet stream, and how much data do you think it uses? I plan on listening to the first two hours at work on my cell phone, and I no longer have unlimited data. Guess I could always sign up for the Sirius trial and do a test...
