Art Bell

I have a question for those who say "but what about the stalker", (with regards to the Asia/YouTube announcement), Are any of you a parent? If so, would you, under similar circumstances, promote the efforts of your 8yo? Of course you would not, nor would I.
Even if I/you thought the "stalker" was "just a kid".
There is no stalker, never was. Bell was shut down by the wife, so he fictionalized a narrative to elicit sympathy and understanding.

I went and subscribed to this kid instead-the clever father posted in Art's thread.

I wouldn't do this with my kid, stalker or no stalker. Especially if I was in the public eye at all. What is wrong with you, Art?

You should redo this post in bold capital letters.

So now I'm going to be the voice of dissent by supporting Art?

Yeah. Agree. And I love Art and his work. But WTF? Is there a condition from headphones or radio usage like the concussion stuff we hear about now in football and hockey? Looking for something to explain without hurting a guy in my mind who made some great radio. And using handle "naturegirl?" That will bring out some good folks. Jeez, as Norry might say!

idk. I'm sure comments will be disabled and she'll be supervised and kept away the cold reality of the web until she can better understand it.

If there were a stalker I would understand this being crazy. If this was pushing a young child into becoming a hollywood child actor or whatever- I would understand... This is probably going to be a valuable learning experience and  if she wants a career in entertainment its THE place to start right now- And having Art help promote a bit is going to be a nice headstart- In my humble opinion, anyhow.

ge30542

Agree, this is a guy using his influence to get subscriptions for his daughter, nothing at all wrong with that.

RESOLVED: there is no stalker.

I don't know what to say at this point, I really don't. All the crap we talk or argue about looks pretty inconsequential (even more than usual) next to something like this. This girl has an anonymous username that's been compromised by her dad -- and not accidentally. And she's posting videos? Somebody grab a screwdriver and prepare to rotate clockwise.

... Shes getting in the ground floor of what I believe is the next frontier in entertainment...

And getting better every day

Too soon?

I have three kids; 11,10, and 8. None of them is ever getting their own youtube channel. At least under this roof.

Art must like stalkers. He just volunteered his child to have her own.

So u are saying Art is

As long as she doesn't become a bold star...  I personally don't think it is a healthy thing but a lot of people are whoring themselves out on Youtube, some intellectually, some in other ways.  Some parents don't care that their 8-year old is not only online but people KNOW where she lives, where she goes to school, etc., etc.

Another reason to dislike Art Bell?  Yeah, it qualifies as stupid.

My kids are just now being allowed to get online with light monitoring at 13-14 years old.  They are not allowed to have any accounts that directly refer to them.  Membership in academic groups online is only allowed under pseudonyms.

That sums it up quite well.

I heard on some fan site that women now comprise a large percentage of (at least) on line gamers. A bigger percentage than teen boys comprise.
I've heard that there are even women radio hosts, now. ;)

Progress. ::)

Since I dont believe the stalker thing anyhow and never have- Good for her. I wish her luck, sincerely.

Shes getting in the ground floor of what I believe is the next frontier in entertainment , at a perfect time, and young enough to really learn the business and watch it evolve. Youtube allows the cream to rise to the top even without corporate sponsors and promotion- ecelebs are a huge talent pool who are finally starting be recognized and figure out how its possible to make a decent living with nothing but talent. The superstars of the coming generations will be discovered on the web. She certainly has talent in her blood and someone who knows his craft to advise her. Might do really well.
I really had not realized that there were people who lived off of being on youtube until I ran across a stupid little "ditty" and looked at the views (now nearing 10 million for the one video) and the number of subscribers.  Then I looked a little further and found that there are a whole "class" of people (mostly young) who have managed to become celebrities an pull in a good paycheque by producing content for a youtube channel.  I suppose that there are worse ways to become a celebrity (hello, Paris...)

Without further adieu I present the song that made me smile...

When Andy Worhol (that dirty hippie whose name I think I misspelled) said that 'in the future everyone will have their 15 mins of fame' he was very much correct. If someone with talent can use that 15 minutes based on their creativity and merit- not being promoted by a corporation- He or she will have the opportunity to excel in a way thats never been possible in history with regard to entertainment.

Now folks from all walks of life can jump in and have the same chance as everyone else to succeed. People who would never be given a shot due to education, location, and every reason imaginable will soon be surpassing the 'premade' stars given to  us by the entertainment conglomerates.

This is real capitalism and equality (equality in chance not outcome) and democracy all rolled up into one. If you have drive and talent and can stand out- You can get into this new medium while its starting and before it becomes  more regulated and controlled and you can be positioned to mop up.

We're still years away from seeing  how this all plays out but this is the future regardless of the fact that many still dismiss the youtube, e-celeb craze thats just starting. We're on the cusp of change imho and the big corporations  will miss the boat due to their antiquated practices.

Just like has happened to the news, the entertainment monopolies are going to soon realize they are no longer the gatekeepers. And the result will be more and better choice for all if we can keep a free and open net.

I sincerely feel that way-

It's cool that you guys managed to get a hobby going out of this, and I totally support that, even if I don't want the show to die. I plan on continuing to draw fun MiTD-related shit and spread it around to whoever's willing to me a S.A.S.E. or find it on a coffee shop bulletin board.  And like I've said before, if that makes me a total idiot, then cool, I'm an idiot. But at this point it seems like waiting around for a show to either die or go on forever depending upon your view of it is a little like sitting around and watching paint dry.
I love your posts whenever you drop in and decide to put something up.  I guess you remind me very much of somebody that I know (in real life), and I smile whenever I think of him.

This world honestly needs more "free spirits" and genuinely decent people. (I could probably contribute to the last catagory- but it would require far too much self-improvement and change on my part...) ;)

The thing is, tomorrow he'll start talking again about how there's nothing more important to him than his family's safety and wellbeing. What a load of crap. Yes, I have a big problem with people who use their family responsibilities as excuses for their behavior and then have the nerve to virtually admit how cynically they have done this.

This, I think, is the last straw for me as far as Art's character goes. Either get some professional help or shut the hell up, Art.

I have a tween and a teen, and I still don't like the idea of them having any internet presence. (They're not allowed to use their real name anywhere online, and they are not allowed to have their faces on their social accounts- which schools are actually creating for them.  It will happen, but I think 9 is too early to have my child's face plastered all over. I'm actually kind of shocked, and thought it was a joke for a second.

So, I don't really understand what I'm reading here anymore. Are you guys all just picking sentences out of a hat and then attaching insults at the ends of them? Or are you legitimately angry about stuff that happened on a radio show several months ago? Both sides are starting to read the same to me.

I don't really understand the payoff at this point. Is somebody supposed to say, "You're right, I was wrong" at some point, or does it just keep going until everybody dies of old age? I don't know how this works.

That would be nice, but way too many of these operations are getting into the operational phase virtually undetected. We do need to do a better job of disrupting these organizations at the source, before they lift a finger to do anything. The lone wolf problem is something else again.

Why don't you just come right out with it ?

So the people who said Art quit because of dwindling numbers are now saying that Art is coming back to save the show from dwindling numbers. Hmm.
Heh, heh, heh,  eh ?   ::)
