Well I have been working all day on the music, God, what a job first I had to look everything up and delete everything pre 72. Then I had to go and listen to everybody's ideas and find what I liked (thank you all) then begin to organize what I have. I am tired and that's it for today. I am still minus a open theme and a few more good ones.

Art

Wow, that is a lot of work. And very kind of you to do Art. Thanks!

Well whatever you get done in the next few weeks will be less you are trying to rush. But don't work to hard Art, we want you around in July/August.
In fact we want you around even if you are not on the air. Also we appreciate all the work you put in. You can tell your shows are not half assed. Thought has actually gone into things like music, guests, comments made, hell even the commercials.

laserjock

It's gotta be hard to choose the main theme/intro song.  Good luck with that, you've already been hammered with enough suggestions.

Ok, I'll bite...  So, what have you done that is greater?  I think it's pretty impressive what he is doing and attempting.  Some of us can't move mountains, I'm just a stupid LASER jocky, but I'm pretty proud of getting that education.  "Fancy Wrapper"  Ok, so, despite all the great engineering, it's just a wrapper for a battery?  Sounds to me like you are pushing an agenda of some sort.  I think he is a remarkable leader.  But, by all means, tell us about your superior exploits!

Nope no agenda just calling how I see it. I just don't see the innovation here. I think electric cars are great but the tech is just not there. If you solely live in the city maybe it makes sense or you can mess with the supercharger network if you are a tesla owner. I don't think the next great innovation will come out of Musk. Musk might be an Edison (or Jobs) but we truly need another Nikolai Tesla.

How about East or West of the Dateline?

Art
East or West of Greenwich Mean Time?  ;D

rzr1911

Wasn't that "east or west of the Rockies" a bit discriminatory?
I guess there live a lot more people east of the Rockies, so calls from the West would get a much better chance to go on air.
Maybe Art took more calls from East to balance it out?

Catsmile

Tesla electric cars innovative? Hardly. The mid-1800s electric vehicles were innovative. Not so much in 2015. Three phase AC motors nothing new. Lithium batteries were around in the 1970s, Lithium-ion batteries in the 1980s. The 18650 Lithium-ion batteries that are used in ecigs, vapes, notebooks, etc. are used in the Tesla. Tesla Model S largest 85 kWh power pack contains 7,104 18650 Lithium-ion batteries, and weighs 1200 lbs.

Tesla Model S weighs around 4,700 lbs. seats 5 people, gets around 200-250 miles on a single charge, and cost around $71,000.00 - $100,000.00 USD. Currently there are less than 70,000 Model S vehicles in the wild. Where is the innovation, at it's price point? Tesla amazing... maybe, but arguable.

The autopilot feature in the Tesla, has potential to be the most innovative/amazing, or the worst thing that has happened to production cars in over a century. Depending on how far they can, or will take it into the realm autonomous driving cars.

Musk, or anyone else making a Honda Civic price level car that gets 500 miles per charge ain't in the cards anytime soon. Someone will have to invent and produce batteries with over twice the energy storage capacity, and at pennies on the dollar of the current production cost today. Then the problem becomes charging the batteries in a timely manner, once they become depleted. All these problems can and will be solved in time, but not anytime soon.

All that said the Tesla Model S is a desirable car in my opinion. Sticker shock makes me shy away, as it does most people.

The Space X thing I can't say much about, but he needs many thousands of people like me to make his stuff work. His program uses most of the same hardware most aerospace uses.

SaucyRossy

Catsmile its the people who make things happen for the masses that are remembered. Henry ford didn't invent the car. Steve jobs didn't invent the computer.....etc. but would you say they weren't innovative?

I'm not gong to post about this again in Art's thread but downplaying what Elon Musk has done and what he could potentially do is ludicrous.

He is an innovative person.

Have you driven a Model S? It's a fantastic car well worth the sticker price. If it had a v-6 turbo charge engine in it people wouldn't even mention its price but because it's electric people try and make such a big deal about its sticker price.

It's a luxury automobile, I don't know of another 5 seater that goes 0-60 in the time it can. Do you??? Is there one???? And the cars that can match its acceleration are usually twice the price. And that's just one aspect of the car.

Ok maybe if we are going to continue this we can start a tesla thread.

Possible theme song :)

Escape From L.A. Soundtrack

rzr1911

Another possible Intro song:
Eternal Light (when the sky glows) - Hazel
http://remix.kwed.org/download.php/3424/Hazel%20-%20Eternal%20Light%20%28When%20The%20Sky%20Glows%29.mp3

features original Rendlesham UFO case radio conversation.
it's a quite powerful song, great for a show intro, and easy to talk over.

SaucyRossy

Peeps....there's a whole music thread where you can post your music links in them.

Has great lyrics!

I'll post it on the music thread

As long as it is 72 or later

Art--can you use the song if you find a live version of it sung by Neil Diamond in 1972 or later?

DesertFox

Was listening to Hoagland on SIT('95) and he's entertaining as usual but also irritating...he's a conman imo.  He's great at it and pushy about it but wouldn't trust the guy for a sec.

Has great lyrics!
instrumental is usually better for an intro, since hosts tend to talk over the music, and then vocals are interfering.

I've driven one, it's a fun car.

FWIW A friend has a Tesla.

From him:
Has serious drawbacks for everyday use.
A/C, Heating and Window defrosting are very sub standard.
It's a fair weather car because using it's very poor A/C or Heating drastically cuts down on mileage.
Air temperature, to hot or cold without using A/C or Heat also effects battery range.

He has it for the gee-wiz cool factor.
Also has another primary driver car.

Catsmile

I'm not putting the man down, or trying to take anything away from him. If Musk can help bring EVs into the mainstream, I'm for it 100%. And if he can make people buy into the hype to further the EV cause, all the better. The fact the Model S has such good 0-60MPH acceleration is even more impressive once you factor in it weighs 4,700 lbs., something any V-6 turbo would struggle with.

That is the nature of electric motors. They are efficient torque monsters, from 0 RPM. Locomotives and industry have used three phase electric motors for this fact since the death of steam. Musk didn't invent, discover, or innovate how electric motors have always worked. Nor did he invent, discover, or innovate how Lithium-ion batteries work. Musk, however has made low information consumers aware of the performance and efficiency capabilities of three phase AC motors. Once you get around 50-60MPH electric motors become less efficient due to aerodynamic forces, and torque loss due to RPM. The Model S is a efficient car among EVs, almost the best. Musk put together a really good design team and it shows. Innovative? Hardly.

Ford making affordable cars was innovative, him giving his workforce enough money and benefits to afford, and have time to enjoy the cars they produced was also innovative.

Jobs and Musk both created a lot of hype, and desire, for lifestyle products.
Them creating such a strong desire for a product, and people throwing large sums of money at them, is truly amazing. I just don't think the word innovative applies to Musk, or Jobs. Forward thinkers, brighter than the average bear, amazing salesmen, probably. What did Jobs, or Musk truly innovate though; as the word is defined?  :-\

innovative

(of a product, idea, etc.) featuring new methods; advanced and original.
    "innovative designs"
(of a person) introducing new ideas; original and creative in thinking.
        "an innovative thinker"

I love that idea. It would be East or West of the Prime Meridian.  Less confusing than the Dateline too.   Basically Western and Eastern Hemispheres.   If you use the dateline, West and East are switched.  That makes it more confusing I think.

In the end Ross would sound cool saying either, "East of the Prime Meridian dial"...  Or "West of the International Dateline..."
