Can Noory pronounce anything correctly?

I am the same way. I spend a lot of time in front of a computer, and love listening to the Radio to stay entertained. I cannot tolerate GN. I am therefore listening to the FineArtStream for hours a day

It is possible that next week's shows may actually be more boring than this week's... How is that possible

Agreed (well, except for Jesse Ventura on Wednesday - c'mon). This week was one of the worst, most boring I can remember, and helped re-unite me with Classic Rock.

I have the whole week's worth of unlistened-to shows on my ipod and not excited about any of them.  Think I will let my subscription go next week.

George and Lynn McTaggart - I don't really care for the royals, but George really don't like them! his hatred for the royal family of england was obvious. Good on Lynn for trying to educate his dumb arse about them.

Apparently, the royal family only cost 67p per year. Bargain basement monarchy.
In his subconscious mind, Noory's just dying to become the next Queen of England.  ;D

First time, long time...

I got through the 90's as a late 20 year old college student listening to Art Bell here on the East Coast from 1am to 5am almost every damned night....

That was a time ago.

For the last couple months, I've tried to give it another shot.  I really have tried to give this another chance and I can't do it anymore.  I check out the website and see the scheduled guests and topics and I have no interest.  Aside from the vapid guests and topics and Noory's scripted performance night in and night out, I simply can not give this guy or this show any more time.

Until the suits at Premier Networks make a change... ANY change... that attempt to resuscitate the format and give George his walking papers, I'm done.

I really am depressed at how awful this show has become and it might be me.  I might have wizened over the years and become more skeptical, matured or educated... but

Enough... I can't stand tuning in anymore.

I suggest you try giving Noory, his guests and C2C a macrocosmic view, seeing the forest instead of merely a few trees:  It's all the result of the dumbing down of Americans and the rest of the world.   Why bother to broadcast an intellectually or mentally stimulating program to an audience of dumbed-down listeners?   :o  Let the sheeple graze in the bliss of stupidity.

I'm a new member who joined to defend George Noory.  I think he is a much better host than most other members give him credit for, and that you all give far too much credit to Art Bell as skeptical host.

I've been listening to Coast to Coast AM off-and-on for about eight years.  I've heard hundreds of shows from Noory, Bell, and my least favorite host, Ian Punnet.  Like most of you, I don't listen to C2C to be educated, I listen to be entertained late at night, and get a feeling for all the weird stuff out there.  If I want to be educated, I'll listen to lectures by skeptics Michael Shermer, Joe Nickell, David Aaronovich, and other legitimate seekers-of-the-truth.  That's why it doesn't bother me that Noory fails to challenge his guests, because who really cares?  Does anyone really consider the validity of shadow people, Bigfoot, cryptids, time travel, astral projection, or whatever is on each night?  I'm guessing most of you would say no, but it's a fun program nonetheless.

Noory is friendly and treats his callers with respect unlike other talk radio hosts who treat callers as morons to be shouted down.  Noory can be quirky and random at times, but it's always lighthearted.  I remember he claimed that, "a hand just grabbed my leg under the table."  It was so random and implausible that I shook my head and laughed, but didn't pour vitriol on him like so many posters on this forum.  I've also heard many of the non-sequiters documented in this thread but laughed rather than got angry at them.  Noory lets guests talk at length about almost anything, and I like that.  If it goes off-topic, so be it, as long as it's interesting.

Most posters here give too much credit to Art Bell as a skeptical host.  Remember that his goal for the show was to have a forum where people could discuss their unusual views without ridicule.  He poked and prodded guests more than Noory, but not to the extent that it really challenged guests.  There were many times when he came to the guest's defense when challenged by a caller.  For example, anyone remember Ray Santilli of the Alien Autopsy Film?  I have it on my computer.  Callers were bringing up discrepancies in like the latex gloves and Bell challenged the caller, "How do you know they're--?" Or the famous Malachi Martin interview?  Bell was totally engrossed in Martin and never challenged him.  Or the Bigfoot hunter in Texas?  Not one challenging word, it was a love-fest between Bell and "Bugs."  And don't forget the dozens of times Art had Richard Hoagland on.  Art may have prodded Hoagland more than Noory, but he kept inviting Hoagland again and again, even after Hoagland's claims got increasingly preposterous.

Art was a fantastic host, pioneer, and much friendlier than most talk radio hosts.  He created a hugely entertaining program.  But he wasn't Michael Shermer or James Randi or Joe Nickell.  He asked softball, leading questions 95% of the time, just like Noory.  Art had a deeper, more distinctive voice that is more pleasant to listen to than Noory's or Punnett's, in my opinion.  But that doesn't justify the hatred toward Noory.  I enjoy Noory's programs as long he has an interesting guest on.

Put it this way.  Some people will like Noory; others will not.  Some people will be entertained by Noory; others will not.  Some people will like a certain show; others will not.  Some people will be entertained by a certain show; others will be turned off.  Some Noory callers or fans are just eager to lick his ass; others are just raring to kick his butt.  It's a free world.  People are entitled to their personal views and sentiments.  Welcome to the world.

I'm not an Ian Punnett fan, myself, although I am aware that there are some here who might disagree with me and who like him as a host.

I started listening to C2C years ago during Bell's tenure because the show educated me with things I never knew before, were it not for the show, or with things I never considered as possible or even real before, again were it not for the show.  C2C's appeal to me lay in its informative and learning service.  I did not tune in and listen to C2C to be entertained during the late night hours.  If I wanted entertainment, I would look for it in late night TV.  So, C2C became for me an esoteric radio program for the paranormal, the supernatural, the extraordinary, or similar other "fringe" topics of interest, which the mainstream media would readily dismiss from consideration in their normal programming.

Yes, I seriously "consider the validity of shadow people, Bigfoot, cryptids, time travel, astral projection, or whatever" because I've had my own share of "unusual experiences" which are not readily explained by the "normal" order of things nor easily accepted by the mainstream population.  So, I open my mind to the experiences and claims which might be deemed "fringe" or outright bizarre and outrageous.  We live in a likely multiverse, in a vast universe of which we know very little relatively even now, in a world of possibilities.   Considering the short span of a human lifetime and my curious mind, I prefer to devote my time to continuing learning and education should the opportunity arise.  And that was what C2C was for me then, until Noory changed the nature of the show.  What Noory is doing with C2C these days does not resonate with the show's original appeal to me.  Something changed radically over time.  I eventually noted that it wasn't my motivation for and interest in the show that changed.  It was the food that C2C was serving my mind under Noory.  Many times, it wasn't food for stimulating thought (or even entertainment) but crap for trash.  I admit, my radio listener standards on this regard may be higher than others.  I can't help it.  That's how I am and how I want it.

How Noory is as a radio program host is a matter of perception and opinion.  I find his humor dry and his hosting or interviewing skills rather insulting to my intelligence.  I disapprove of how he treats listeners as if they were juvenile, senile or infantile.  Indeed Noory "lets guests talk at length about almost anything."  That's probably because he is not informed enough or not prepared at all to carry on an intelligent exchange or discussion with his guest, or is playing favorites with a patronized guest, or is simply uninterested with the guest or the subject that he lets them go on their own spin until a commercial break interruption becomes necessary.

He treats callers respectfully only for as long as the caller is harmless or innocuous to his guest or his own belief system and agenda.  Otherwise, I've heard him thumb down callers when they become threatening to the credibility of a favored guest or his own.  That's when one might hear the convenient "Oops, I guess we lost the caller." or "We're losing your signal; call again."

This is the pits:  There are times when Noory makes play things out of his callers, and he starts making them look or sound like fools over the air.  How about the times when Noory picks up a caller but pretends to be someone else other than himself, and starts a conversation or exchange that sets up the caller for humiliation or ridicule over the air?  How about the times when he childishly makes those strange or ridiculous sounds on the side just to distract the caller or to make the caller look silly?  The poor innocent callers are unaware of what's being foisted upon them by Noory on the air. Are humiliation and ridicule entertainment?

Agree.  But Hoaxland's claims have gotten increasingly more preposterous since, and Noory keeps guesting or featuring Hoaxland again and again and again and again.  Noory hasn't reversed that trend; on the contrary, he has promoted it.  What gives?   :o

I don't know if you have observed that, unlike Bell, Noory keeps and follows a regular checklist of standard questions which Noory recycles over and over again with guests and episodes.  That checklist of standard Noory questions becomes apparent when one listens discerningly to Noory's interviews.

Furthermore, I think you are mistaking Bell's "softball, leading questions" for his manner of moving the guest on to the next subject or level of the discussion.  That is normally how an interviewer prods the interview's progress and/or gives the interview a directional flow.  Contrast that with Noory's tendency to drop his stink bomb questions and comments (including his interjected anecdotes or witticisms) out of place, for the effect of it or to impress on listeners that he's around and in-charge.

My bottom line here is: You are correct in that Noory and C2C are entertaining.  They have become entertainment bordering on a laugh-in.  But that's not what I signed up for when I started tuning in to C2C.   :)

But he wasn't Michael Shermer or James Randi or Joe Nickell.

And thank God for it. Nickell  is a snotty little prick whose 'rationality' mostly takes the form of ridicule. I remember well one Halloween night when he appeared on the Jim Bohannon Show. The guest was a delightful woman who claimed (tongue in cheek, mostly) to be a witch, and Nickell and Bohannon savaged her with asshole questions demanding that she 'prove' her witchness. After 20 minutes or so, she said, "This is so sad." and hung up.

Schermer is a snotty big prick whose 'debate' skills also run to smirks and ridicule. Noory has suggested more than once that Schermer and Bill Marrs 'debate' the JFK assassination. One 'debunker' whose only weapon is an article written by some mope for Popular Mechanics (!) 'proving' that Lee Oswald acted alone by ignoring most of the evidence, against a researcher who has spent close to 50 years looking into the subject. What a fascinating radio program that would be, Noory. Marrs conclusions may not be correct, but Schermer doesn't belong in the same ring with him on that topic.

The only one of your Holy Trinity of Rationality I have any respect for is Randi. He was an actual stage magician, so he has no need to resort to insults and condescension. He just explains how the fraud was done. His deconstruction of the idiocy of Uri Geller is classic. Randi also offered a shitpot full of his own money to anyone who could prove any sort of paranormal ability. So far, no takers. That's how a rational man behaves, Nickell and Schermer.

George Noory doesn't suck because he isn't Art Bell. He sucks because he's George Noory. All this 'respect' you fans keep jabbering about that he has for the handful of people who call the show - where's the respect for the listeners ? All he would have to do is: prepare for the show, ask cogent questions (that he actually thought up himself), including follow-up questions, and (my God) listen to the guest. Just do those things (which are really part of his job description anyway) and you'll see me jump aboard the 'George Noory Doesn't Suck' bandwagon.

Well put. Noory has zero respect for his listeners. Zero. And quite frankly, anyone who claims to be a bona fide fan of Noory is truly not dealing with a full deck, and is situated on the lower rung of the human food chain. Noory appeals to the Walmart mentality out there. It's also quite pathetic that the equally disrespectful producer-whores, Tom and Lisa, seem to draw from the same cauldron of pass-their-date assholic guests, time after time after time. With a few exceptions, the guests themselves are as equally fucktarded as Noory.

Excellent post - couldn't have articulated it better myself. I myself initially tuned in to be enlightened and informed, and aside from a handful of great guests (and tuning Noory out during the course of these interviews) I too have come to look upon C2C as a "Laugh-In" comedy of the absurd. There are times when I can tune in and laugh out loud at Noory's sheer stupidity and that of his "expert guest", and there are times when I'm in a foul mood, and  the "dumb and dumber" levels get so dangerously high that I have to tune out at the risk of feeling I've wasted precious moments of my life on this shit.

Sorry, you lost me there. Noory letting his guests talk at length about almost anything equates a very poor radio host who cannot control the course and tempo of an on-air interview - he simply does not have the inherent skills to do so. And in case you haven't "heard", Noory constantly, constantly interrupts his guests - usually when they're in the midst of making a lengthy or pertinent point - to interject a totally unrelated personal anecdote about his fucking sad and snorry life.

The argument about being entertained versus education is dicey when it comes to Noory. He's had any number of medical charlatans on his show. They weren't there to entertain, they were there to promote their 'treatments' to vulnerable, desperate people. I don't care how many bigfoot hunters or aura reading psychics Noory lets go unchallenged, but when he introduces medical quackery into his program and doesn't follow through with questions regarding the seriousness of unverified treatments without clinical trials then he and his producers are contributing to medical ignorance that could end up being fatal. Would you like someone you love to take a baking soda 'cure' if they had cancer? Just how far do you think that would get them? This is where the George Noory era of C2C has gone: right down the rabbit hole, and that's why I have zero respect for the man, because there are people who take this predatory bullshit as fact, and they pay the price. And for any faults Art may have had, I don't think he'd softball someone who promoted one of these 'cures'. In fact, they wouldn't have been on his show in the first place.

Absolutely no sense of tempo.  My 8 year old reads more intelligibly, at least I understand his meaning.  This guy must stumble over reading the charts at the eye doc.  He should stick to reading rolls of toilet paper and let Tommy read the oh so informative "news" reports, with the oh so amazingly abrupt "guest experts" chiming in before getting cut off.  WTF kind of ballsack programming is this?  Add to this Georgie's proclamations of "open format" night.  Nobody fucking cares George.  You are a producer, not the talent- although in this particular warped reality of a time-stream you have been cast as C2C host- we all know this is a cosmic joke where the janitor becomes the CEO, as in "Being There" w/Peter Sellers.
