Genrally I hate open lines.  The callers overall were better in the Bell era, and he was better at sheapherding calls in various directions, depending on the caller.  George's callers just seem tamer and uniteresting generally, however I do like it when George messes with his callers on Friday nights.

and they're frequently loaded, high or both.  which is fine.  if you weren't a moron when sober

I'm convinced that many of them are also taking plenty of hard meds.

That's what i miss most about open lines nowadays... It just seems like George is REALLY uninterested with OL's nowadays.

Classic example of an Art Bell OL call

LMAO, here's a wild one where Art talks to a fella who says he saw a 2 headed girl on Oprah - guy sounded serious too, I'm now trying to search Youtube  for a video clip of this... :D

It sounds wacked, but it's true.

In the back of my mind, when i heard this call, there was a little part that said "this guy MUST've seen it wrong, maybe it was something on old medical oddities in the past or something, or maybe he somehow misinterpreted what was on TV."

EvB, thank you, that link was great.

I think I've wrote this before, but I seriously love open lines.  My favorite callers are the ones that start out sounding like a normal person with a story and then it quickly deteriorates into lunacy.  The process of them starting out on the right foot and then falling apart fascinates me.

Friday night, Snoory was letting them go on for ten minutes at a time. Maybe he ate some bad chicken parm and needed some bathroom breaks.

Ha ha!  I just listened to the show and yeah...he did.

I know this is politically incorrect - but I thank whatever God may be on a regular basis that my son cam into this world with only a hairy nevus (fuzzy mole)  on his tailbone as a challenge.

#1 - "Stop it!  I'm not in the mood right now."

Guy - "Fuck of and go to sleep bitch, I wasn't talking to you!"

wtf?

If each of the 2 heads fell in love and wanted to marry a different guy, was it bigamy? Or wife-sharing?

3 lungs. Kinda awesome.

Has anyone else heard the call where the woman claims to have worked at China Lake, and claimed to have worked with a geneticist that work with the infamous alien "J-Rod?"

I remember actually listening to this call live when it happened I think either 2004 or 2005, saying to myself "wow this is some crazy shit," as a matter of fact it freaked out the girlfriend I was with at the time, I had to listen to the end with headphones if I recall properly, she did not want to hear it LOL

I was incredibly happy found the show on mp3, I think the title was "Amazing OL" I have to check my archives...

For those who haven't heard:

i don't think it would be considered bigamy since there's only one vag.

When Art had the show in the mid to late '90's, there was a woman who would call in at least once or twice a week (or as often as she could get through), who would flirt with him mercilessly, and he would even flirt right back.  Can't remember her name, but I always enjoyed their banter.

Anyone else recall hearing her - or her name?

The guy who was flying his little airplane into area 51 was awesome.  Remember that one?  Probably a hoax but was great.  You could hear the fighter jets flying past him and air raid sirens in the background, and he's going "This probably wasn't a good idea."

Area 51 pilot phones Art Bell-REAL original broadcast

I totally remember that.  Cool.  Noory played it on his program at least once.  (I never listened to Art Bell.)

Now that you mention it, yes, I remember her. Name totally escapes me. Mid-to-late 90s-ish.

I've mentioned this in other threads, but the nature of open lines has changed since Art left. Noory rarely has truckers on anymore, and I can't recall the last time he's had a policeman on. One could guess it's because they're not getting past the call screener, but I have to wonder if they're even bothering to call in. Truckers, policeman and night owls used to be the core audience.

Fave OL call -- definitely Area 51 caller. That was good radio.

Either the Area 51 pilot or the Area 51 caller. Both were brilliant but I don't know if the pilot was fake or not.

i suspect the pilot was fake, but that's based on absolutely nothing but suspicion.  it sure was convincing.

I read somewhere years ago (sorry forgot the source), that the whole Area 51 Pilot crashing was an April fools joke...

Looking thorugh my old HD archives, i found some old gems. I remember personally recording these clips from cassette to pc line in lol, it was that long ago. I'm really kicking myslef I didn't keep that whole damn tape.

Anyways if anyone has the complete show to either one of these, i will be indebted to you for atleast a year lol

I WANT to say these are from 1997, due to them being MIB calls, but the files themselves say December of 99, I'm hoping these 2 clips will jog someones memory.

attached are the only two shows from dec 1999 that i have in my main library at the moment.  i have tons of other shows that need to be added to the library, and i'm sure there's some dec '99 in there... but finding it at the moment would be a pain.  hopefully one of these will hit the bullseye.

Nope wasn't them... the day the talk radio Gods open the pre 2002 C2C archives, I might just cry in joy, then pass out, like those teenage girls used to do in the 80's at Michael Jackson concerts

Oh yeah, I LOVED this guy. He used to call like 7 Los Angeles radio shows, and 2 national ones if I remember, Arts and another one. His whole deal was being completley crazy, yet composed on almost every call... A perfect example of Dan In L.A.

I hardly ever hear him anymore, which is a shame. He always spiced shit up.

Classic. Only Mr. Bell could turn a weirdo like this into one heck of an entertaining call.

always found this one(attachment) pretty funny, perfect example of something only Art would air.  JC called the next night complaining.

Some other memorable calls for me:
-around 2002 or 2003, a guy called Art and told a story about how aliens stole his shoes.  I remember hearing it live, yet to track it down unfortunately

-just about every time JC called Art, especially when Art would let JC talk to callers

-Oscar's calls, would've been better with Art though

-Some crazy lady who sang a Marilyn Monroe-esque rendition of “Happy Birthday” to George.  Absolutely scared me shitless, something about it was really creepy.

-I think it was a Ghost to Ghost show from the 90's, a guy called and told a story and after asked art if he had a picture of someone(blanking on who, think it was an old time actor though) in his house.  Art declined to answer, but he sounded a little freaked out afterwards.  Always wanted to know more about this.

-Kind of a funny story, the parents of my childhood best friend were listeners to Coast to Coast AM since the 90's.  During the fall, they would plan football games with friends and the neighborhood families.  I guess one of their friends had a particularly hard time catching a football, and my friends dad would joke with him about something to the extent of aliens implanting deflecting beams into his hands and that was why he couldn't catch a football.  Well, about a month or so after this their friend called into Art and in a completely serious tone told Art he was abducted by aliens and had implants placed in his hands(leaving out anything about football).  Neither my friends family or their friend ever mentioned it after that.  I'd be really interested to see if this rings a bell with anyone, it's something I'd really like to hear.

I think I remember this as well. Very interesting.

One of the best open line call I've heard was a from a few years back during a ghost-themed show. A woman called in and described a situation in which she and her daughter were vacationing somewhere along the Eastern seaboard and they decided to take a walk on the beach. They were walking in the water when they noticed something rolling in and out with the waves. She assumed it was a log or some other beach debris, but as they got closer she realized it was the dead body of a young man. She immediately called the police and took her daughter back to their rented beach house.

I don't remember all the details, but at some point she said she was on the porch of the beach house and the deceased man appeared to her. She said he was incredibly frightened and didn't know what to do. She said he was panicked, and mentioned a prank gone wrong with a friend, but he could not accept the fact that he was dead.

That show gave me chills, and I could not sleep with the radio on after that. Now I fall asleep listening to Coast to Coast.
