Open Lines

sorry everyone for forgetting the site.  dumb on my part.  he is on live 10 to midnight est.  I listened to his entire program last night, it was great.  going to give it a shot again tonight.  He is very knowledgeable, but the best part is the unscreened calls (I am assuming that they are unscreened because he asks name and location when he picks up)  and his ability to have a conversation with the callers (not just make stupid comments)

Oh my god... I LOVE TIME TRAVELLER OPEN LINES! I rarely (in fact I can't think of once) if ever capitalize a sentence and use exclamation points, but I feel that strongly about time traveler open lines. Nothing captures my imagination or has made my heart pump and my ears focus like TTOL. There's been so many freaky distinct moments that have come during these segments. I can think of at least three or four instances off the top of my head. I especially love being able to listen to the old episodes and have the frame of reference knowing whether these callers were on the money or not. It's absolutely amazing how many callers there's been who've been on point talking about the future. It really gets my imagination and mind running which is exactly what I think C2C's aim was.

Anyway, what are you thoughts or memories?

with one exception, the days back when Art had open-lines was entertaining and partially due to the fact he
didn't screen callers. And if the call was fail, he could push it into something great on many occasions

This thread cracks me up.  It's different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I absolutely LOVE open lines.  I like when the crazies get through.  Most of my favorite moments from the show are from open lines.

I want to be one of the few that loves open lines too.
No matter who is hosting.
The callers are the listeners and i think i could really get along with
all the people who call in on open line day in real life.
But i still agree with most of you Art Bell knew how to rock open lines !!!!!!!!!

what if a concentrated effort was made on our part to call in during open lines and steer the show back towards the unusual subject matter that once helped make this show great. this will require telling lies to call screeners and making outlandish paranormal connections to any and all subjects or guests whenever possible, even if we don't believe these connections exist.

i like open lines. george may frequently mishandle them, but did the people against open lines all really hate open lines this much when art was on the air?

I do the same thing everynite now, open lines or not, the show has become so boring

I'm still interested in the show every now or then but, last night, i switched off to listen to/fall asleep to music instead. To me it seems they're trying to squeeze as many commercial breaks in as they can. The beginning of the September 10th show just felt like they're slowly trying to move the format of the show away from the paranormal. Which would be an explanation why the show's becoming boring.

One of my favorite Art Bell subjects. Yeah, a lot of nuts and flakes would call, but every now and again, you got some great calls re: Time Travel. I remember the Chronovisor show, here's a clip for those that missed...

It's REALLY hard to do it with George, but with Art, open lines was so much of a treat - you really never knew what you were going to get.

Snoory on the other hand... boring caller, after boring caller. He wasn't always as bad as he is now (or maybe I was just giving him SUPER benefit of the doubt, but w/e)

Noticing the other thread on "Callers We Hate," what are some of your most memorable open line calls?

I remember Art had a call from a guy who claimed that he had "Famous people toenail clippings." He got Madonnas on a beach in malibu, and had them individually tagged for the "stars," and how he had a "toenail dealer" LMAO

I remember George once had a call from a lady who said she picked up the uni bomber - luckily she did most of the talking...

The guy who was flying his little airplane into area 51 was awesome.  Remember that one?  Probably a hoax but was great.  You could hear the fighter jets flying past him and air raid sirens in the background, and he's going "This probably wasn't a good idea."

Another one with a caller calling out George (somewhat) for having fake guest re: energy propulsion . antigravity (Hutchinson, etc.) - very interesting

I think I've wrote this before, but I seriously love open lines.  My favorite callers are the ones that start out sounding like a normal person with a story and then it quickly deteriorates into lunacy.  The process of them starting out on the right foot and then falling apart fascinates me.
