Things That Annoy You

I hate the word fob (as in key fob).  I really do.  The fact that no one can seem to agree on why it's called that just annoys me further.

that raspy voice, used mainly by young girls and those attempting to sound more intelligent than thou. that might be a bit nit-pickish, but it just boils my cabbage

There's actually a name for that annoying inflection, but I can't remember it. It *does* make you feel like they're talking down to you. I went to school with a cheerleader who spoke with infantile inflections, but it took a while for me to discover that her babyish voice was real. I thought that she was just incredibly condescending and patronizing. :D I had a complex because I looked young for my age. I had a man's body and a man's voice, but I had a boy's face. I thought that she talked to me like a baby because of that. I felt silly when I heard her talk to other students in the same way.

Well, it looks like you've grown into a fine young mobster, Nucky, judging by your photo!  ;D

Yeah, I am rather tired of that crunchy, snarky teen-girl tone, too.  I am even more weary of the dumb-bubba monotone employed by the teen males of the species.

I am also tired of having to not run people over because they stumble into the street against a red light, glancing up with great astonishment and irritation from their GOD-DAMNED ELECTRONIC DEVICES!  Oh, wait... did I just yell that?  My bad.

What really annoys me is when I hear that little girl, non-moving tongue, growling, condescending  voice on a woman who is now 35-40 years old.

It saddens me and angers me when I see women (35-55) trying so desperately to cling to youth getting those god-awful facelifts and collagen injections and such.  They end up looking inhuman.  Am I the only one who thinks that Victoria Posh Beckham looks ridiculous?  She's got what appears to be the lips and breasts of a healthy 150-pound woman on the frame of a 90-pound woman (as she goes tottering about on five-inch heels).  She has attained an empty expression on her face (due to injections, one suspects), but does have a lovely unnatural orange glow to her irradiated skin.

Okay, that was extremely harsh.  I don't know the woman.  Maybe she's a true queen.

And there are certainly men (probably more in that 45-65 age range) who also look ridiculous with polished nails, derma-lasered faces, unnaturally dark hair.  Bruce Jenner -- IMO -- looks pathetic.

The whole thing is sad and sorry.  I wish that as a society we allowed men and women to age.  I'm all for staying fit.  Spritzing up to go out is just fine.  But invasive cosmetic surgery at an ever-younger age is a path of no return.

Sorry.  Rant over.

It bothers me too, but I think it is important to understand that women are convinced without youth they are of less value.

As a society, we are more and more worshipping youth. It has been a problem for several decades but it seems to be getting worse. Although surgeries are slightly down over the last year less invasive procedures are up. Breast augmentation down, eyelids up... (there is a joke there I am sure of it) botox up, up, up.

I hate it, because I like to say the outward appearance isn't that important... then a 23 year old female walks by. I can be such a hypocrite.

All the electrical cable cords in my house really annoy me. They are everywhere and it is difficult to remember which cord goes to which gadget. Cell phone chargers, camera batteries, Ipad, Kindle, bluetooth charger, Ipod....these cable cords are everywhere. I always mean to make a label for the cord when I get a new device. Of course I never do.

Sorry.  That just annoyed me.  Any one who does ANYTHING to make themselves feel better about themselves is wonderful!  I only find what you said sad if a woman did this for a guy.  She does these things for HERSELF like she polishes her nails.  Men also need to take care and most DON'T.  A little touch of hair coloring.  Good skin products. Pluck those damn eyebrows!!!

The awesome and amazing injectable products that I don't believe you are accurately commenting on at all, they are fantasticccccc when done correctly.

The people who got unlucky with their doctor's or ones who OVERDO it are entirely different stories.  But there is nothing wrong with wanting to touch up and look great AT ANY AGE!  It makes you feel great too.

Sorry, rant over.

Patrick? Patrick Bateman? Hey, how'd it go with that new business card? You know - the one with the subtle off-white coloring and the watermark?

Invasive surgery for cosmetic reasons is sometimes a good thing. More often than not however is representative of how shallow of a society we are. Add botulism to the mix to paralyze muscles to avoid wrinkles is bewildering to me. Why should grey hair be camouflaged?

For the want to feel good about themselves... perhaps if we shed light on the makeup industry and the fashion industry and the manipulations inherent in advertizing, especially to women, there would be a more positive outlook towards feeling better about oneself. "It's not how good you feel, but how good you look" was meant as a joke, a cynical joke, perhaps.

Skin products... please... very few of the so-called skin products are measurably  beneficial. Physiologically speaking, the only skin product I know of that is good for the skin is Eucerine. Most if not all others have the oil and water chemistry wrong. Want healthy skin? keep it clean, moderate all exposure to temperature, sunlight, and environmental hazards.

It is mostly a con game. Granted a well bought into con game, but none the less, a sham.

Sorry just don't see a connection to my post and being the ghastly horror movie lover that I am, the sicker the better, I LOVED that movie, I don't get it pal.

Could not say this more strongly and I hate the saying.  I'm going to agree to disagree.

Yeah, I am rather tired of that crunchy, snarky teen-girl tone, too.

That's close to how I really look. :D Yeah, that voice is coming out of our TV speakers right now. There's a name for it, and it's something like "boiling" or "roiling". It was new to me. I stumbled upon a story about it last month. It even featured a few clips of girls and women who talked in that manner. The clips came from a radio show. One of the hosts likened the voices to Jiffy Pop. :o

I think NPR did a story on that teen girl voice in question, but I can't find it in their archives.

And I agree, Black Hole, that dudes definitely need to trim their eyebrows.  In my younger years, I never even had to worry about that kind of shit, but somewhere around 40-ish, my eyebrows started going a little crazy.  Suddenly hair (one damn, random hair!) would start growing out of my ear lobe or shoulder.  God, the human body is a funny thing.

Look, I am all for people paying attention to their appearance (in particular, when they're going out in public or have a mate to consider).  But invasive procedures are expensive and potentially dangerous.  I've heard of women, for instance, having a portion of their toes (a knuckle?) removed so that they can wear certain shoes.  (I have to say that if a guy is majorly turned on by a woman's shoes, he probably is also looking forward to seeing her feet out of those shoes -- finding feet that have experienced such invasive surgery is probably not going to be a hit.  Just a thought.)

I agree also that women who pursue surgery to appeal to a guy would benefit from seeking a different guy, one who can appreciate her for who she is.  Ditto for a guy who pursues cosmetic enhancement to please a picky partner.

Well said :)

You should always take your time and consider everything, but I can assure you that done moderately, like a neck lift! or some fillers into wrinkles or a bit of botox to lift your eyelids off your nose and the list goes on can take 10-20 years off ya at any age.  Its wonderful to feel a bit confident as people age to go out and get it done until of course you can not any more.  At that point you would not care anyway. :)  Be the grandpa.

Dear Manly Men of BellGab,

If you pluck your eyebrows, dye your hair, remove your body hair, or get botox injections, if you meet me anywhere in real life, please for the love of all that's holy, do not flirt with me.  I like all of you and wouldn't want to hurt your feelings by the swiftness of my rejection.

Thank you.

As I age(desiccate), I've developed Pierre Salinger's eyebrows, On pace to have Hal Holbrook's hair, and have kudzu vines on me arms. And that's the way God planned it, that's the way G-d(just kidding) wants it to be.

Guys who get botox injections, probably get buttocks injections, too. Wakka Wakka Wakka.

I've heard from a few people that Geraldo Rivera actually did just that on live television on his old Geraldo Rivera series in the early 1990s.  He had a plastic surgeon on to talk about the latest anti-aging technique that involved suctioning one's butt fat from his ass and then injecting the fat into his facial wrinkles.  Geraldo underwent the procedure in front of his studio audience and the TV cameras.  They put a sheet up on the operating table so Geraldo could still talk (and mug) for the cameras, while the doctor suctioned his butt fat and you could see the butt fat going through the suction tubing and into the clear repository for suctioned butt fat.   Then, as America watched, he had his butt fat injected into his forehead.  Now, in my opinion, that may explain a lot about Geraldo.
