Yeah, they could go the polar route.  Okay so that would work too.

Well you Californians will be the first to know if it can.  Just sayin'.

Yes, the thought occured to me (gulp). Maybe this explains the two reports we got ealier of US Navy Jets buzzing Cal. today -- ie to "reassure" us they got it covered -- and they probably do in fact,  but still, it does change the game if/when they become fully tested operational and nuke tipped. But then S. Korea and Japan are still in danger right now even without ICBMs.

I have a plan for my own self defense. Not so much for the country's. Seems too complicated. I guess I would tend to not react much unless I were directly attacked. Far too simple for world military politics and such, I know.

Trying to argue with Zenman is like the sound of one hand clapping

If it's any comfort, every "expert" I've heard talk on the subject says they are nowhere near acquiring the capability to even hit Guam in the Marianas which is the closest U.S territory to NK.  However,, give them a few more years and who knows.

So, it turns out N. Korea's parade revealed something today that has people more worried than the possible test.
The finale of the missiles portion of the parade showed their new Canistered solid-fuel *ICBM*s !!!
Yes, probably capable of reaching . . . .oops

and, this pic, though similar looking canister as the very large ones shown earlier, is the biggest and newest of them all -- too large/long for the dedicated vehicles we saw earlier, these are flat-bedded and towed by large semi tractor.

I am confident of our own countermeasures (barring some EMP event) which reminds me! that's all they need do -- so I will stop right there for the moment . . .

They're starting to get fidgety. This isn't what they signed up for, being hoodwinked by someone with onset dementia and his RINO royal family.

Pass the popcorn.

Trump has heads spinning like Linda Blair, trying to determine who he's aligned with on any given issue. It's evident he has no political ideology, and will pivot to support which ever group indulges his conceits. As a back-up he has his family, naive and equally unqualified but always eager to please daddy.

This is a great example why nepotism  is a problem. When you promote  a family  member, everybody else working in the company  wonder if the family  member   truly  deserve it and if they are being held back because of it

Well his supposed party doesn't seem to mind him putting his own family in positions of power, top security clearances and all. There is no evidence the GOP has much influence over him whatsoever. I suppose they'll stand by like hapless witnesses and watch him drive the train off the tracks and then wonder who to blame.

Whew! Now I'm relieved.  ??!

U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff tweeted a bit of their own "parade" display from Kadena Air Base in Japan.

I still don't get why we need to do this, at all. Time zones, Daylight Time/Summer Time changes (some counties or areas opting out to add to confusion,) weird "jogs" between zones, etc. Everyone should just use GMT or UTC and we all would know what time it is anywhere. Worried about if it is day or night? Look out the window. Why would it cause confusion if it was "dark" or night at noon (as mandated by clock) or not?

Absolutely. Yes.

Gee, in the Palestinian settlements, sometimes, when they have a planned attack device ready to fire at Israel, the bomb inexplicably detonates in Palestine...

No-one knows for sure what if anything is inside them. Some observer reported the nose of some missile bouncing around as the trucks rolled -- like it was too light weight.

Then again, why would anyone parade a live missile loaded with powerful explosives passed of a massive and vulnerable crowd of dignitaries, military officials and cheering citizens? Just sayin'.

Nuclear bombs don't just explode the way a stick of dynamite does. But even so, its unlikely to be live.

Strange how some countries parade all their weaponry in public along with their soldiers. As far as I can tell, mostly it's oppressive regimes that do this sort of thing...like North Korea, Russia. I don't know...has the US ever done this sort of thing? Seems a bit obnoxious, if they have. I suppose it is meant to be threatening and impressive.

Post Cold War it came out that Russia would parade dummy or one-of-kind prototype weapons, some of which never panned out,on Mayday. Back in Late 70s or early 80s a defector flew a MIG 21 into an airbase in Japan.  When experts took it apart they were amazed to see how out of date the avionics and linkages to control surfaces were.  (I believe they actually found vacuum tubes and in a time when we had fly-by-wire controls, they were using 50's style mechanical linkages.  I writing this from memory but I think I've go it about right

Makes sence. They're calling them "FrankenMissiles" due to being composite varriants and mods of existing know Chinese, Russian, and NK model types.

I do not recall large weapons systems being on parade anywhere in the U.S. on our patriotic holidays.  Maybe a field artilliary piece that rolled along with marching artilliary units but nothing like the communist bloc countries.

It was a MiG 23 Foxbat. And the tubes were laughed at until it was pointed out they're impervious to EMP. But that aside, although the SU boasted of its phenominal climb rate, top speed and service ceiling (AFIK) of 100000 feet, what they missed out was doing that wrecked the turbines and they had to be replaced!

Mechanical linkages aren't obsolete either, the issue is making sure with large aircraft the control surfaces are operated with hydraulics. Fly by wire isn't a solution looking for a problem, it just makes things simpler for installation and servicing.

Incidentally while on hi tech. The new F35 has a projected maximum flight hour service life of only 5000 hours. Which takes them up to about 2035. Gulp.
