I'm sorry to hear about your wife, Route 66. I hope she has made a full recovery. I hear stories like this all the time. It's hard to believe a country like ours with such wealth, wants to do so little for the most vulnerable. I think Granny probably did a better job at saving than subsequent generations have. Most Baby Boomers usually had solid retirement savings plans and even pensions, which seem to be a thing of the past. The corporation my daughter works for doesn't offer any savings plan to their employees. Meanwhile, the stock market has proved to be a risky place for ones retirement savings. Then there's this. In addition to healthcare, basic costs of living, including housing and automobiles are becoming cost-prohibitive for many working class Americans.
