Why not?

Russia doesn`t want to escalate this thing any more than anybody else. Putin will bluster; beat his chest and throw shit, but he knows full well that Trump is a different kind of POTUS than his predecessor. Putin will NOT test Trump`s resolve. Especially in light of international condemnation of the cowardly and despicable practice of Assad gassing his own people. The USA must lead. We hold the moral high ground. Now is the time to end this thing by rallying our friends in the ME to handle their business.

I`m not the least bit surprised. I didn`t vote for the man, and I`m certainly no fan. He`s completely unqualified for this position, BUT since the election -- until very recently -- I have kept my mouth shut about him and even offered my support. The reality is, he has to get this right. The civilized world CAN be united, and I believe Trump might very well be the oddball  to do it.

I don't know what or who you define as the "Civilized World" but apart from this single event (and only maybe that) the entire "Civilized World" counts Trump as a madman and a threat. He can't even "unite" his own party in the US let alone his WH staff. It's already becoming clear that this strike was a Political stunt. The guy is a transparant fraud every time and in every way. In a couple hours he's going to steal the fucking U.S. Supreme Court! ffs

Trump warned Russia of the Strike BEFORE warning his own party or Congress at large. Local Syrians report a Russian convoy of trucks and personel abandoning the base earlier in the day, only a very few planes were destroyed, and very little damage was done to the runways. If the Russians knew, so did Assad --- on and on. So the message was . . .?
Just another Trump cluster-fuck and theatre stunt.

Oh, and btw, Trump was down to about 35% approval rate the days immediately prior. So now he'll get breif up-spike like he did after his Address to Congress (painfully fake extended applause for the grief-stricken widow) -- because this was for 'the children" (of Islam, or any) that Trump "cares" so much about.
SUCKERS.

What's the word on the street over there in CuckistanEngland?  Since your cuntry is a failed democracy overrun by Islamofascists, are you with us or against us?

When you say 'us', do you include Trump who was first against then for strikes on Syria? As for the rest of your uninformed swill, try, just try not to be a knobhead.

It's just so sickening to see McCain and Bolton making the rounds today, talking about this as if it were a James Bond novel or something. I would've never voted for them but now they've weaseled their way in and the neocons are back in charge. Deep state secure. Bend over, America!  ::)

You're not surprised that they turned on him in general or that they did so over this issue specifically?

Both. Trump was voted in on a myth, an illusion. Not in small measure that they thought him the least worst candidate. He sold it well, its what he does, bullshitting bullshitters. That he's had nearly 2500 lawsuits filed against him over the years speaks volumes; Latest being the scam university. But still he was/is seen as some kind of Pied Piper. The sad thing being, even Trump believes his own myth.

Then recently, the grown ups had a little chat with him. The ones who have been there done that, and instead of swimming in unicorn milk and sleeping on gold plated beds, they've crawled through mud, dodged bullets and watched their comrades die in front of them. The grown ups saw the manchild change from being essentially self absorbed 24/7 to a contrite little man; Still with so much growing to do, but it was a start.

Then last night happened. His devout followers threw their red baseball caps with MAGA on the front in the trash, their messiah had decieved them!! A false prophet. They never expected him to do anything that involved a far off country they couldn't find on a map if it said 'SYRIA'  in big red letters across it! Absolutely not. They expected him to draw up the drawbridge and make it all fluffy and lovely in Americashire. Downton Abbey with BigMacsâ,,¢.

But reality has dawned, and even Trump has had to face that the world isn't gold plated and swimmng in unicorn milk. One day, his hitherto devout followers will realise the same too. Until then, they'll spout about conspiracy theories with Alex Jones, and generally talk shit about stuff they neither know nor care about.

I'm not so much butthurt as concerned an idiot such as you is allowed out without supervision or a tag. That can't be right. The CTs must have been up all night in their mother's basements collating photos and making videos about a topic they have absolutely no clue about.

This photo is likely not pertaining to the missile attack. Syria still uses the MiG 21, but not based at Shayrat. Methinks that perhaps the sarin attack was Russian. And their FOB was Shayrat.

Syria   Edit
Syrian Air Force. 45 MiG-21F-13 were delivered around 1965 followed by 36 MiG-21PFs in 1966; six of the F-13s were lost in 1967 prior to the start of the Six Day War, and during the war itself, 32 of 60 F-13s and PFs were destroyed. These losses were covered by future deliveries from the USSR, as well as four MiG-21F-13s from Czechoslovakia and ten from Hungary. From 1968, 100 MiG-21PFM and MiG-21PFS were delivered, as were six MiG-21Rs in the 1970s. Sixty-one MiG-21MFs were delivered between 1971 and 1973, but massive losses during the Yom Kippur War (180 Syrian fighters of all types were lost) resulted in the delivery of 75 more MFs from the USSR. During the Yom Kippur War, 12 MiG-21Ms were bought from East Germany. A total of 54 MiG-21s and MiG-23s are estimated to have been lost by Syria during the 1982 Lebanon War; and subsequently 198 MiG-21bis were supplied by the USSR through the 1980s. About eight MiG-21U trainers were delivered in the 1960s, and 20 MiG-21UMs around 1973.[1] As of 2007, eight squadrons still operated MiG-21bis aircraft, about 200 in total, namely 8 Sqn (MiG-21MF) at Deir ez-Zor, 12 Sqn (MiG-21MF) at Tabqa, 679 and 680 Sqns (all MiG-21MF) at Hama and 825, 826, 945 and 946 Sqns (all MiG-21bis) at Al Qusayr.[1]

He is lucky something like this popped off first before North Korea or Iran where the chance of retaliation is substantial.  It was a deliberate provocation, fake or real, and if it took $60 mil of missiles hitting an empty airfield to show we don't just dither eloquently any more, it's well worth it.  No wonder he ignored all his previous criticism and seized the chance just to make the point.  Being able to do it while crying over dead babies was just icing.

I think your take is about right except you underestimate the damage done.  Twenty aircraft were taken out, fuel farms, ammunition bunkers and a/c maintenance facilities.  Cratering runways is not a good use of TLAMs because they are easy to repair.  Aircraft born guided munitions are most always used for that purpose.  This is no small loss despite what the Russians and Assad regime are trying to sell.  They may try to fly a/c out of that base to prove a point but it won't be a functioning air warfare asset for months.
