Hale-Bopp UFO - An Art Bell Turning Point?

I recall some really strange Art shows following the Heaven's Gate mess.  Art was very shaken by this, and even radically changed the style of the show (almost as though experimenting) for at least two nights.  I recall one show where Art sounded more like a DJ than a talk show host.  Eventually his on-air demeanor returned to normal, but never quite the same as before these religious astronauts attached themselves to a theme in Art's show.

I believe that George Noory is making a similar error in judgement with his potential doomsday predictions, although he seems to have toned down the 2012 frenzy a bit.

I seem to recall an episode from years later where he addressed the fact, for a minute, that it really borked him up for a while, much akin to the mass consciousness experiments. I'll try to remember(don't hold your breath, my memoryator doesn't work so well anymore), but I could be hallucinating(again, my memoryator isn't so hot anymore).

Maybe what you heard back then was his reaction to some emails he received about Hale Bop. I kind of remember what you're talking about.

I listened to the first show about this and one that proceeded the revelation that the photo was fake. It was unbelievable. I can't grasp how someone could blame Art. He never, with any of his guests, claims that what they're saying is true, or real, or even that he agrees with it. He allows people to express themselves and their findings, and with that, it can only be expected that he's going to have a fake every once in awhile. Art treated Courtney no different than any of his guests, and it is not his responsibility to edit himself because there might be a crazy cult out there looking for an excuse to kill themselves. Its fucked up that anyone held him accountable for this, a radio host, for a bunch of adults decision to kill themselves. In the program after it came out that the picture wasn't real, Art seemed genuinely depressed and slightly on edge. He seemed like he felt obligated to talk about it, partially due to guilt, but from what I heard he seemed to be avoiding the subject unless a caller brought it up. I didnt really understand why it was such a big deal until I read the article, though, because I didnt know this was directly related to the Heaven's Gate cult. Now, looking back, its quite sad to see how guilty Art felt about something that wasnt his fault.

I think (not sure) that the halebop saga as it played out on C2C was the pinnacle of Art Bell's cultural influence....and it ended in disaster so I don't blame him for toning it down.

In the last month James McCanney has mentioned Art and The Hale Bopp mess on his weekly short wave show. He says that Art was RIGHT and Hale Bopp DID have a companion. Also Heavens Gate was a Sanctioned Hit and not a mass suicide.

Hmm, so Art is to blame for a bunch of dudes so crazy that they literally went to Mexico and got their balls cut off?  Kinda think Art's involvement was irrelevant, completely irrelevant.  These guys were looking to die long before Hale Bopp, and if had not been this it would have been something else.

Don't pass judgement on Jim just because he doesn't pay a webmaster. His science is sound, you all know that, you have only been listening to him for years on Coast.

I say a quick tutorial on nav bars is in order.

Yes the site is 4th rate I agree, but the info is first rate. (here come the flames)
Just go about 2 shows maybe 3 back for the Art Bell comments although most of what he said is written in the "Yellow" notes.

Good Water Filters too for what it's worth.
