There is no more equal time rule.  However, make your story sound interesting in the daytime, and you obviously have a chance to get on Coast.

Renaldo

Yeah, Basiago's pretty good. The first time he went on, he was pretty entertaining.  Totally full of crap, but it was a really simple, story about being part of a time travel program when he was a kid. Then, each time he came on, he'd add something unbelievable to it, and it kept getting more and more ridiculous. I think the last time I heard him, he was talking about how he and Obama would time travel and do coke off of stripper's breasts back in the early 80's.

Hey Fill--

You got a source on the doing away with the Equal Time Rule?  I checked the FCC's website, can't find anything saying it was struck down.  They did away with what was called the "Fairness Doctrine", but those are two different things apparently.

I'm curious only because back in the day I wrote a paper on the ETR for an elective course I took on the history of broadcasting.  The ETR did evolve over the years, exemptions/exclusions coming into force with advancements in broadcast technology, especially TV.  About the time I graduated, the ETR was a big time topic of conversation when Reagan announced he was running for President.  TV stations/networks were wondering how the rule would be applied if they showed reruns of "Death Valley Days" or "Bedtime for Bonzo".

Juan

I was wrong.  It's in section 315.  It does require that the candidate be legally qualified.  I don't know if that means the candidate only meets the minimum requirements for the office (age, residency, etc.) or if that means the candidate must have gone through the legal process to qualify - pay fees, get signatures on petitions, etc.  If the latter, Coast is probably clear.

I can't think of anyone more minimally qualified than that nutjob who was on with Noory on Friday night!

Anyone have a source for the audio files these days?  I've written about Basiago, and I'd like to hear his latest (still planning on running for President in 2016?) but the source I was using for audio just got a cease and desist letter.  PM me please.  Or, if this kind of query is not allowed, please moderator delete this post. :)

Dude.... You can still get them on YouTube (at least for now).

Yeah, but I like to have the MP3 file.  Downloading the YT and then extracting the audio is sorta my last resort.

This link may help speed up such a process, just pick one that appeals to your needs best.

Drop a link and it converts the "video" into a .MP3 file, download the .MP3 file.
Saves the step of you downloading the video, it's converted on there end.

I'm one of those "Want All Guns All the Time" kind of guys (yes I'm being snarky), but certainly you must know better?

There is "almost" a one-touch solution for you. Download and install Freemake Video Converter. Paste the Youtube URL into FVC, select mp3. It will download and convert automatically with no intervention. You have complete control over your output settings. As a test, I converted a 1:18:33 Basagio video, and the entire process took 3 minutes 25 seconds on a somewhat slow 54Mbps wireless connection.

The above mp3 conversion link provided by Catsmile only allows conversions up to 20 minutes in length.

I also installed a stand-alone YT->mp3 with disappointing results - same Basagio video took 5:30 to convert.

When installing, like much other software, be careful and choose "custom" install so as not to install toolbars and other crap.

My conversion took place utilizing a core I7 2600K at 4.3GHz, so YMMV.

FVC is also great for video transcoding, as it can utilize CUDA cores from Nvidia graphics cards, allowing for math-intensive co-processing to be off-loaded to the GPU, greatly speeding up the video transcoding process.

I just posted a link of Let me Google That for you, doing a search of "youtube to mp3".
That would allow him to select what was best for him, not just a single converter.
More or less it was just a hint teaching him to search out answers and be more self-dependent.
Because what I like and works for me may not be fit for someone else.

http://www.c2camdaily.com/ still has full show mp3 downloads available daily...

I hope Art interviews Basiagio!  I loved Basiagio!  This is what I listen to C2c for.

astroguy

Thanks Morgus.

And yes, I know how to use The Google.  I would prefer to have the four MP3s separated by hour for download.  That's separate from finding the audio in YouTube format and extracting the MP3.  I'll use Morgus' suggestion until I can find something else.

unfortunately only the Funkbaldy site provided downloads in separate hour mp3 file format and they were put out of commision recently.
the single download mp3 is the best you can get for now, but if you are going to edit out a clip it doesn't really matter anyway.
for youtube, there is an excellent firefox addon I use that can extract the audio and even convert it while it downloads.

After Andrew Basiago's revelation that he met Art when he was working at ITT in Nutley NJ, I think this is the perfect opportunity for us Bellgabbers to help him out in making sense of how Andrew could have known this detail.  I know for a fact of course I have heard Art mention he had a Secret clearance for working for ITT and I swear he has mentioned Nutley NJ...I think I heard this as far back as the Area 51 caller when he talked to a spokeswoman for the satellite company after the event - the satellite company was located in NJ.  Another place I heard him mention his association was with Darryl Sims and Roger Reghr.   On the live chat someone posted his ITT association, but what is missing here is the time frame, as it is relative and not absolute as far as I can tell.

I found this site that has some great information about microwaves and what SWR and VSWR is - and lo and behold it has pictures from the late 60s of the Nutley facility.
http://www.microwaves101.com/encyclopedias/historical-test-equipment

Possibly unrelated, but halfway down the page there is a gentleman working with some test equipment (probably the same type Art may or may not have worked with ;) in his microwave work.  Based on the picture being from 1967 - Art would have been 21, he appears too old to be Art.   Is this his Dad?

AL5J

Art mentioned working for ITT in  "The Art Of Talk" p, 41. Public knowledge since 1998.

I also traveled to an alternate timeline and married Jessica Alba.  Makes for an entertaining interview. I just hope he doesn't have Billy Miers media representative. Actually I'd love to see him debated.

henge0stone

He confirmed it was Art, he wore a normal pair of pants. Case closed.

coaster

Not really a bombshell at all. He just read the part of Art's book where he mentions working there.

ItsOver

Basiago's attempt to really nail it with Art completely blew him out of the water.  I can't imagine a character with his ego being capable of having never mentioned his supposed childhood encounter with Art until last night.  He would have been beating down the doors years ago to tell that story to Art or in one of his C2C hallucinations.  Quantum bombshell my butt. ::)

Dyna-X

You all have to admit though that ITT has a very colorful history. (I wonder how much Art knows about this - likely he was just looking for a technical job to get by and knew nothing of ITTs history and its connection to Nazi Germany - there was no easy way to look this kind of thing back then) Jospeh P. Farrell would give some excellent high-octane speculation here on a future show...I hope he makes an appearance.

But as for Basiago and the alternative timeline that's a pretty..erm wide idea that allows for anything to be possible as to make any specific near meaningless.

Really good point. Its wise to be doubly suspicious of any new sensational spins on old stories.

Art posted this photo of himself on Facebook in 2013. This is the caption he wrote: "Here I am at KUDE Oceanside, Ca at 27 YRS old"

Just noticed that from the side Art looks a wee bit like Mick Jager back then!

really?  i reviewed the audio or "cassette" version of THE ART OF TALK at least twice, or about 8 hours of listening in total. ITT isn't mentioned there at all! can you please be so kind and maybe scan p.41 and post it here. that will answer many questions in the minds of a lot of people --beginning with, DID ART REALLY MENTION ITT IN HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY? if so, how did he say it? art in the interview said it was just likely in passing.

i want to see it myself. scan please, and post? THANK YOU. ???

Here we are (thanks to MichaelFromVA for looking this up on Google Books).  I also remember Art mentioning ITT and Nutley NJ in 90s shows.  The reputation of ITT as being part of the Military-Industrial Complex was well established by the late 90s as well...in short the only unique thing Basiago did in this regard was describe Art as being there in an alternate timeline. Its up to us to decide Basiago's credibility....
