AM Radio Hosts with Voices I Hate

I don't like Bill Handel's shrill, whiny voice on Handel on the Law. On his morning show he sounds different.

Cross post to late to the party- but here's my list.

For those in the Tampa/St. Pete market- Jack Harris on 970 WFLA. That SOB doesn't stop talking for the whole 4 hours he's on. If you go to his page on the 970 WFLA site, there's even a talking jack Harris showing you all the various things on his page. What a douche.

Mark Levin- Can't listen to him for more than 2 minutes before that nasally voice starts grating on the one nerve I have left.

Glenn Beck- He has a twin in the studio as it's difficult to tell when Beck or the other guy is talking. Not to mention the show rambles out of control. I quit listening a long time ago.

Mark Stein who sits in on Rush Limbaugh's show from time to time.

There's others, but these top my list.

wow... that's ULTRA douchy.  i just went there and checked it out.  awful webpage design etiquette.  you should NEVER include shit like that on a webpage.  very 1998 and very gay.  and his voice is very hacky and affected.  bleh.

The bad thing is, people around here think he's the second coming of Christ. What can ya do!

Ah, Levin's all right. Sure he's annoying, but that's his "shtick". 99% of all other political guys are dull as paste. And since I'm apposed to ALL politics of any stripe, I only listen to be entertained.

I find all the "money talk/business" type of hosts the worst of all -- they drone on like drugged accountants, total automatons in service to the almighty economy. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. And since I have no money at all, nothing they say has any relevance to my life, heh.

I enjoy the dulcet timbre of James Dobson's vocal chords, the slight increase in wheeze when a subject like premarital sex is engaged. All the religious guys are fascinating, because I can't understand how anyone can live in such an enclosed system, and they all seem to share a smug, slightly pervy tone that fascinates me. Hank Hanegraaff ("The bible answer Man") is another one.

Interesting thread. I don't own a TV, so I listen to a lot of radio...Here's my perspective:

The unlistenables

These are hosts who I truly cannot listen to without turning the radio off or changing the channel.

Petros Papadakis - This guy is a host on Fox Sports Radio. He is very loud and has a coarse, scratchy voice. You would almost expect it to be the voice of a muppet character. His personality is really annoying and unfunny. Sometimes I even change the channel when a promo/commercial for his show comes on. I first heard him as a substitute host for Jim Rome, and I didn't think much of him then, either.

Bill Handel - His voice is, though annoying, is not as bad as Petros' -- But his personality sure is. He strikes me as a incredibly arrogant and insensitive person.

Mancow Muller - I attended university in a tiny town in Missouri. Apparently, this guy is an alumnus of that university, and so the local AM station carries his show. It's awful!

The 'bads'
Sean Hannity - I used to like him when he first started 10 years ago. He used to have a likable voice and personality. Now his show is so repetitive and predictable.  He's very divisive and not thoughtful at all anymore. He just cranks out soundbites and gives his knee-jerk reaction to them in the exact same vocal intonations over and over and over. I can't listen to it for very long -- He's almost into the 'unlistenable' category.

Rusty Humpries - Anyone else heard of this guy?  I am not sure how widely syndicated he is. He is a Hannity/Limbaugh wannabe and copies the worst elements of both. His voice is smarmy and more annoying than Hannity's. He tries to be funny, but his style of humor gets more of a 'facepalm' reaction from me than laughs. I know that Stephen Colbert's character is mostly based on O'Reilly, but I feel like Rusty Humpries is the closest thing to a sincere version of Colbert, a total schmuck. And please note that I consider my political views to be conservative!

The 'not-very-goods'
Dennis Miller - The most boring radio host I've ever heard. What a snooze.

JT The Brick - Another Fox Sports Radio guy. A decent voice, but his personality rarely comes through. He really just runs through the headlines and whatever else his producers/managers tell him to talk about. It feels like he's going through the motions most of the time.

I like Mark Levin. As a Conservative, I agree with alot of what hey says. Yeah, he gets over-excited, but I think that is a marketing gimmick to differentiate himself. And I do admit it puts me off. Is it sincere? Not sure. But has anyone read "Liberty and Tyranny"? An excellent book. You will not get that level of intellectualism from Noory, Obama, or anyone else.
funny :) putting Noory and Obama in the same sentence as intellectual peers :)

Fox Sports Radio is the pits. Petros has the worst voice I've ever heard on a national broadcast. JT is "caller-driven", unfortunately 90% of his callers are drunk or stupid or a mixture of the two. Boring Ben Maller is a know-nothing poseur.Over the hill Tony Bruno embarrasses himself nightly. Most of the weekend shows appear to be ISDN set-ups that sound disjointed. Just an awful, terrible network. I try to avoid them...

The early days of ESPN Radio(Winter/Spring1992), with weekend nights(7pm-1am) hosted by Keith Olbermann,Chuck Wilson and Tony Bruno was the best national sports radio I've ever heard.

Why does Mark Levin have the debate skills of a 13 year old creationist and the voice of a Jewish grandmother from New York?

Dark Side Of The Moon

Hey folks, just want to pitch in my thought here. The voices I've HATED over the years are these. First is Rush Limbaugh, his voice seeps with arrogant hate for anyone not in his income bracket. Second is former Coast host Mike Siegal, he sounds like Donald Duck at 4:30PM after only 2 hours of sleep the previous night!

I dunno, I am not a fan of rush's daily soliloquies. But I think he has a delivery style that is compelling. Very few voices (imo) are pleasing by their sound alone but add some inflection and meter and something changes. Mike Siegal dunno anything about him.

Laura Ingraham, not so much voice alone, but vocal habits. I won't listen to her. She used to screech, gasp an make orgasmic noises. I don't know if she still does that. And her content isn't that great. She's pretty much a knee-jerk ideologue. If an interview isn't taking the course she wants, she will just make a disappointed noise. Once Ingrid Newkirk was on. Obviously these two aren't going to agree on much. But she asked Newkirk about abortion. Newkirk didn't really want to discuss it, as you might guess. I understand that Laura Igraham was trying to make a point, but it was t working, so she should have dropped it and moved on. Instead she kept hammering away on it, and finally just kept going "uh" when she didnt get the desired results.

Billy Cunningham used to be one of those that inflected the ends if his statements like a question, like an annoying teenager. I think Hannity does that too. I don't know because I stopped listening to Hannity. I think I have discussed my issues with him on another thread.
There are a lot of fill-ins that are terrible hacks, too, but I can't think of their names. Some are local hosts that are inflicted on the national audience now and then.

Jeff Kuhner is pretty bad, voice-wise.

I have to add Mark Levin to this list.  He gets excited and starts sounding like he inhaled helium.  How can anyone listen to his show for more than five minutes?  He's a phony anyway.

The worst is some of the local AM talk here in my neck of the woods.  There's one guy here in Seattle that sounds like Kermit the Frog but he's all slurred and stupid sounding like he spent all morning huffing glue.  He's TORTURE to listen to.

My immediate thought when I saw this thread was Mark Levin so +1 on him for me.  He sounds like he's holding his nose with his fingers.   Very fucking annoying.    The local guy I can't stand is that putz Andrew Walsh on Kiro.  Oh, I almost forgot, I fucking hate both Dori Monson's voice and  Kirby Wilbur's voice too.  Both annoying voices but I don't necessarily disagree with them.

Also, +1 on Laura Ingraham.  Her voice isn't bad but she's very snooty and I don't like her rhythm either.
