who do you think the most influential bands of the 90's are?

I would have to say in my opinion i think of that time it would have been SoundGarden 1. Second would be Nirvana 2. 3. Stone Temple Pilots . 4 would be Weezer 5. Live I may add to this at some time. BUt let me tell you I am 36 now and shit this music during the time was great. Was a better time in my life. So if you have a list throw em up let me see. I know that some people on here don't care for hip hop. BUt damn hit hop had a big influence in music. I will add that later.

How could you put a group like Weezer in the same sentence as Who the hell is My Bloody Valentine.
And what do you mean by all that's wrong with music? Green Day I never cared for. Never even owned a CD by them. I hate to say it but i disagree with you . Don't really hate to say it. But I remember the days of Good music. I  really did at a time like Most of Weezer's  stuff off that album. But when you go and put them in the same group as a two bands such as Well I don't even know who the hell Bloody Valentine and Green Day i have to speak up. Now I am not saying that Weezer is some great work of fucking art or some shit. Give Credit where its due. Please .......Anyhow I will stand down on that.

My two cents would be to say Guns N Roses.  The Illusion albums (showing my age with that one) left a huge imprint on my teenage years.

i'm not sure if they were the biggest band of the 90s, but i'd say nirvana was certainly the most transformative.  they got rid of those shit-bag hair bands, and for that, they've got my vote no matter what.

In the 90's - my life was taken over by the "kindergarten through middle school" crowd (I'm a Mom - it happens) so I dunno!

Let me state this one more time so that you will understand what I am saying. Ok I don't have every album that weezer ever had. Nor do I even care to know who My bloody Tampon is. I don't really care. I think you took what I said and twisted it so you sound more eloquent. I was not saying that Weezer was some bad like Neil Young or some shit. Dude I would never say that Weezer was a great band. BUt I loved Smashing Pumpkins. i really really liked them. I listen to a great deal of music. I am a fan of many different Genres. My one true love is Reggae.  But anyhow I am done with this thread.

didn't they hit it big in the 80's?  they certainly didn't stick around that long.  but in their day ... they dominated.  i think they crested right around the end of Hair Metal and then Pearl Jam and Nirvana came along and that was the end of that

I agree with the original poster. Pretty much those bands stand out to me. However I always had ecclectic tastes in music. I liked everything from Phish,Primus,The Meat Puppets, Matthew Sweet, bands like that, well those are more my personal preferences. There was a huge variety in the 90's so really difficult to name a few bands.
