Why do people insist on watermarking their pictures with their big ole heads? Just take a picture of the subject, no need to turn your back to the action to fit your big ole head in the picture.

This annoys me to no end. Are they trying to prove they were actually there taking the pic and they didn't just grab it from google or a friend? Either way, NO one gives a hoot. Clearly we are living in the era of narcissism.

Alcoholic drinks are also fucking beautiful ..... under a microscope

Sex on the Beach looks exactly like it should.  Now, what about my fave drink, vodka from a plastic bottle, mixed with frozen orange juice concentrate, with a red licorice straw, drunk from a meauring cup.

Airliner at an airport with a crew who can't speak or understand English? What could possibly go wrong?  :)

Hey, it floats in the water in case your buddy drops the football pass you make with it between boats.

I peel potatoes whilst giving my wife the evil eye. Perhaps I should stop doing that.

You must feel equally threatened when she handles the baby carrots.

I was curious as to why she was only buying miniature vegetables.

singers are just fucking overrated.  singing isn't that difficult, and i don't know why they're held in such high regard.  fuck that.  i'm FAR more impressed by a great bassist, drummer, or guitarist.

I'd modify that if you don't mind...Crap singers are over rated. And there are a lot are, who are revered as 'singers' who can't hold a note in a bucket, but a friendly producer helps them out to make Simon Cowell richer. . Great singers are fantastic.

Could not disagree more. True, there is a lot of mediocrity out there, but a truly gifted and nuanced vocalist is an absolute treasure.  And I say that as a guitar player who can't vocally carry a tune in an oil tanker.

I keep trying to tell people your posts aren't all rubbish, and that you occasionally post something sensible like this.  I take back all those hurtful things I said about your tramp stamp.

I'm tolerant of just about anybody's personal preferences as long as they involve consenting adults and don't cause any harm, but anyone who goes out in public like that is just begging for an old fashioned ass whuppin' just for looking so fucking stupid. Not like these guys.

so is a nuanced drummer, bassist, or guitarist.

i think the difference is that the guitarist/bassist/drummer has to work waaaay harder to achieve a comparable level of status.  we're all natural speakers from birth (moving our lips and tongue while passing air through the larynx), and singing isn't far removed from that.  in other words, every singer has a huge head start just by being born.

keep in mind, i'm not saying i don't appreciate a good singer.  i do.  i just don't respect their skills nearly as much, and i definitely don't think their perceptions of themselves and the praise dumped on them are proportional to their actual musical talent.  in my mind, it would be like heaping accolades on someone who walks really skillfully/artfully.

No argument there. It's not an either/or situation.

I'm guessing you haven't spent much time around truly talented and dedicated vocalists and seen how hard they do work.  I agree that there are many pretty good singers who have a deluded image of themselves as God's gift to the musical arts and humanity in general, but you're going to find that in any field of endeavor.  Those types of singers deserve our scorn, but it's unfair to tar the gifted ones with the same gooey brush.

The talking/walking analogy doesn't quite work either, because there's a lot more to singing than just blowing air through your larynx and flapping your tongue a little. If there were, everyone would be able to do it well.  And people who can walk skillfully and artfully often get accolades, although they're usually called dancers.

BattyBrooke

I've been trapped in the house for over a week now, so I've been on here more often than usual and in reading various posts I've found words and phrases one doesn't hear enough. Being a lover of words, I'm now compiling a short list and will be using them often. Today's found phrase was "crop dusting", and today's found word was " obsequious ".

I love you guys.
