My friend's mom loves to embarrass her in front of people by retelling her coin purse story. When she was very little her mom put her in the tub and she noticed a bunch of pennies. She asked her where the pennies were coming from and she said "MY COIN PURSE!". Her mom asked her what coin purse that was and she pointed to her.... well you know lol I have fun asking her if she has change for a $5 or can spare a penny. When ever I see the take a penny leave a penny at the gas station I think of her.

What an unimaginative child I must have been. All I ever did was stick a couple peanuts up my nose. I salute the free spirits of childhood.

I am finally breaking down and getting tv service. Comcast is out because I refuse to ever deal with again, so that leaves Dish Network or Direct TV. Does anyone have any experience, thoughts, advice, or opinions on which company provides better service? I would truly appreciate the input, as I have never dealt with either company. So far, I am unimpressed. I have tried calling both to ask my questions about actual cost vs. advertised cost and cannot get straight answers, only annoying sales tactics.
And as for kids sticking things up their noses, my Mom told me a story about when she was watching a neighbor's kid and he stuck a pretzel rod up his nose. It was one of the big pretzel rods and it broke off, so she couldn't reach it to quickly yank it out. Plus, the giant salt chunks were cutting into the skin inside his nostrils. She ended up taking him to the ER because he was screaming and bleeding. Ouch.

thats because both are owned by the same company. they both exist to provide an illusion of competition. invest in a good antenna, and stream form netflix or similar. you will probably be happier than if you get a dish service only to discover that noory has 95% of the tv content beat.

We have Netflix through the Xbox, but our internet is a hotspot with a data limit (not my idea- I strongly warned against it when we moved in). We had a $1000 bill two months ago. Streaming is out of the question unless we get another isp, and where we live, that would have to be through a satellite company.
As for the digital antenna, that is what I have been using and I get 4 channels (2 regular PBS, 1 spanish PBS, and a local NBC affiliate that comes in for about 5 hours a day). According to a chart I looked up, we are in some sort of dead zone for over the air signals. Must be the mountains, I guess? When the wind blows, the reception goes on the blink, although I imagine a dish will be much the same.  :-\
Also, I am not impressed with the offerings on Netflix. On Demand service had much more variety and the option for HBO. We looked into a Roku box, but that seems even more limited than Netflix (and it has the same streaming issue).

I've been looking at Aereo, but it's not in my area yet.  And, it has the same streaming issues.   I think you're out of luck, unless you can mount a really high antenna or get a better ISP.

You're married... of course you have been doing it wrong.

Of that there is no doubt.

Why do husbands die before their wives?

They want to.

I had dish for a few years and it was fine, not cheap though. I would use them again if I lived in a rural area.

I live in a major urban area now so antenna brings me 30+ channels. I buy $100 of movies or tv shows on bluray or dvd a month, and at the end of the month I sell it all for around $65-70. Most of the stuff is almost new so it sells within 2 days of my listing. That might be a strategy to try??

...to slash your power bill?  That's one guy I actually want to hear interviewed.  Frank Bates.  I want to know his thoughts about being afraid THEY were gonna make him shut his video down and it's been up for over a year and they haven't taken it down.  Shouldn't the power companies shut him up by now...

Also Portis Stansberry or whatever his name is.  Predicted by now we would be in a collapse because we were no longer the world's reserve currency.  Also is the boss of the guy talking about the Mainz (?sp) money streams.

It is easy to forget that Florida is still in the South.

The sad fact is that many New Yorkers relocate to Florida, so it is really NY's fault.

Sometimes I realize in a rather jarring way how time has passed:  on the net is a picture of the sailor who claims to have been the kisser in that famous iconic WWII picture (if you're over the age of 40, you know what I am talking about).  The guy looks ancient (had to be pushing 90).  I can recall a WWI vet coming into a high school history class to talk to us about "The Great War"... those vets are all now gone forever.  It won't really be all that long before we can count the number of WWII vets world-wide on one hand.

And yet, somehow, Mickey Rooney -- who first appeared on film in 1926! -- is still alive.  Weird.  Could he have access to a portal?  ::)

Yup. Back in 2011 he said "Watch this video before THEY shut it down" then he whored out infowars with that ad, and even came on Alex Jones show several times. What a bunch of Cons both of them are.
Every time I see one of these bullshit advertisements,

it disgusts me to think some poor sap is going to click on it and load their PC up with spyware immediately after lol.

:edit

This is the gif used in another advertisement. Looks like a plastic bag covered by a suspension coil spring from a car.
LAME!  ;D

I don't know.. might be OK. What will they be serving it with? A good side is a must. Let's not forget a seasonable vegetable.

I can't think of a joke to embed this in, so I'll just say it: Area Drifty-Pun.

Spunkwear scores a perfect 10 for combining sport and style. Created by an athlete with an eye for design, this made-in-the-USA brand brings activewear looks to life.
I'll bet it does.

For god's sake, at least make the minimal effort of googling the word before you name your company. Cue Monica Lewinsky joke in 3-2-1...

To make up for killing the random stupid things thread yesterday, I am offering a photo of a cute otter saying 'How are yeeewwwwww?'

This is fascinating (to me). I wish there were a way to slow it down a bit, though.
